Just got given this game yesterday, the DVD version.
It describes itself as The first D+D real-time strategy experience.
Another bit off the box says...

reign over the land with armies of Legend......and plunge warriors underground for vital RPG battles.

Anybody else played this game yet and what are your views. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

hey Spick! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

if the demo represents much of the game, then i say it's not so worth it but then if u don't have any other game & desperate for one, Dragonshard should be ok enough as time filler.

i thought the gameplay will be tight yet fluid but sadly it offers nothing new apart from the so many RTS games out there which deserve your time & money more than this one.

anyways, u can always check reviews from gamespot, IGN, Adrenaline Vault, GameGuru etc for more opinions.

oh .... & please don't smoke when u're in Scotland too! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

There are a few nice ideas, but ultimately it falls down, sadly. Nice graphics, simple enough game play... But there are real problems with it. It's too short (A mere ten levels) has no proper troop commands or formations, and is far too easy for most of its length.

It can't honestly be described as D&D either, as it bears no relation whatsoever to either the game or any of the many worlds created for the game.

It's only noteworthy achievement is being one of very few fantasy RTS games, but it's not a patch on WarCraft 2, let alone 3 - and with Warhammer Fantasy on the horizon, it's about to be eclipsed even more.

The squad cap is absurdly low, and the number of different unit types you can practically field is four - of which one will be a Rogue, who has limited combat use only. There are also many buildings you will never build because they have no real point in the game, and your building grid is incredibly limited.

Where they should be trying to create a fantasy version of the Total War games, they settled for a superb looking game with gameplay that would have been state of the art ten years ago.

I finished 9 levels, realised I was bored out of my skull, and didn't even bother starting the last.

I guess my advice would be - play it by all means, but don't expect too much.

I played it, finished it... and emjoyed it... but when i say enjoy, i mean in the same way i enjoyed diablo.... there is mindless killing, and not too much thinking at all... its the type of game you play when you are irritated wit the world... smack some monsters and feel all better afterwards

If all you want is a time filler, try ArcadeTown or Free World Group. Nice independant and commercial games for $20. All of them have 1 hour demos as well.
