Dark Water, very spooky and very good! It's a little strange to see all those japanese people, but it still is an awesome movie! It's strange how scared you can get of a simple water spot on the ceiling...scaaaaary! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

The latest movie I have seen is actually one of the weirdest movies I ever seen.

The movie: Peacekeepers, it is not the movie about Yugoslavia, it is a documentary about war in Chechnya. This movie is not listed on imdb. It goes into details of this war. Hatred, destroyed cities, suffering civilians and violence (sure, as movie is russian then we see only one side of the medal).
Very sad that there are still places on planet Earth where such things take place. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/puppyeyes.gif" alt="" />

Last movie? Hmmm, lemmethink? Brother Bear! Nice story, touching...
But I see about 2 movies a day, should I tell about the other one I saw yesterday? Shrek 2, very well made, nice little details, like the picture of Sir Justin in the bed of Fiona (@ her house in the land of "Far Far Away"). <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

concept-wise, Dark City is the predecessor of Matrix. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

"Lord Of The Rings" is one of my favourite movies especially part two cause there is a lot of action and the orcs and other creatures are very well designed and there are some spectacular views. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/XmasJump.gif" alt="" />
Posted By: Lady_Rain Re: Latest movie u have seen!!! - 10/01/05 06:16 PM
Lord of the Rings were just FANTASTIC!!!!! all 3 of them (the first one was a little slow though).

@ Ubs
Equilibrium is a very very good movie... banned in a couple of countries (dont ask me why, i thought it was GOOD, with no real harsh stuff in it)

Quote
FRom a film review
In a post-World War III Earth, the potential for more chaos and destruction has led to the development of a fascist form of government, where human emotion, as well as all inspiration for it, has become a distant memory, controlled by a mind-numbing drug called Prozium. Art, music, literature, and movies are a thing of the past; those in illegal possession of them, dubbed "sense offenders," are immediately obliterated by an elite task force known as the Tetragrammaton, who operate under the control of the Father, the highest official in this totalitarian system of rule.

The plot hook of Kurt Wimmer's "Equilibrium" comes when one of the most highly-regarded soldiers, Cleric John Preston (Christian Bale), forgets his daily dose, and thus begins experiencing the foreign sensation of emotion. As if his feelings were a narcotic, Preston finds himself unwilling and unable to turn back to the dreariness of his previous existence, finding along the way a number of factors that will ultimately lead him to take a stand against the Father in favor of the underground rebels her later comes into contact with. There's his newly-appointed partner, Brandt (Taye Diggs), in whom he sees his former, darker self; the recently incarcerated Mary (Emily Watson), whose sensory crime and accusation mirrors that of his deceased wife, oh, and let's not forget the dog, because no movie would ever in its right mind kill off an animal once we've seen it face-to-face.

I'll be perfectly frank about the film: it's nothing new. There is so much uninspired material lurking within the depths of writer/director Wimmer's futuristic thriller that several comparisons to previous works like "Fahrenheit 451" and the more-recent Philip K. Dick-based films "Impostor" and "Minority Report" are inevitable. The special effects are acceptably mediocre, but better than most genre fare, and the action directly mirrors the works of dozens of Hong Kong action directors and "The Matrix," a film that seems to have singlehandedly created an entire subgenre all its own. When Christian Bale whips out his semis and starts blasting some opponent booty to smithereens, you're either going to cringe in disgust, or just enjoy the moment.

But what surprised me more than anything was how much fun "Equilibrium" was, mainly because unlike most sci-fi fodder, the characters aren't mere fodder for the kill. Bale shapes Preston into a man whose crisis we can identify with, and his unique charm and cooly-calculated mannerisms are right on target. The plot may be redundant, but it does have meaning behind the mayhem, and its central theme rings true in a time when oppression is something we strive to overcome each day (seeing the image of Saddam Hussein in the opening montage only serves to enhance this meaning). While our government may never take such drastic measures to advocate the prevention of war and crime, the film certainly deserves credit for crafting an eerily chilling vision of a future ruled by hypocrisy. That, and some pretty spiffy fight scenes, too.

Isn't that the one were Helen Hunt was sitting on the side of her bathtub an looked like a model of a nude painting? And where Jack Nicholson couldn't step on the stipes of a sidewalk or something? That movie wasn't bad, but the fans of Helen Hunt should really watch the movie "What woman want". I'm not so much a fan of Jack Nicholson. Very ugly and angry looking man, with his eyebrows, yuk! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
Posted By: LadySarah Re: Latest movie u have seen!!! - 11/01/05 04:31 PM
The movie with Helen Hunt and Jack Nicholson is called "As Good As It Gets". That's the yucky movie about a man that is mean to everyone and is paranoid about the sidewalk cracks.

"Something's Gotta Give" stars Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton. I haven't seen it yet, but heard that it is pretty good.

Galadriel, you are right about those eyebrows! Ha Ha

I think those eyebrows funny in the movie situations.

"Something's Gotta Give" what i saw is about a man who likes of more young women and create a confusion with the family of the girl and fall in love for her mother(what is a famous writer) and his medic(Keanu Reeves) like of the books and fall in love for her too. The movie look like this, i don't remember everything now, btw i have to get some sleep now - all night working.

Oi, I love Jack Nicholson - when he gets through the door in Shining and says "Here comes daddy!" or something similar, that's just too great! No, really, I think he is a great actor! The Shining is a great movie, while we are talking about it. (And I liked "Somethings gotta give", but there are better ones out there imho). <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Seriously, I liked all movies with Jack Nicholson, and be it only because he acted in them. I had a little Lynch festival yesterday and watched "Twin Peaks" and "Mulholland Drive". I love them, really, if I only could figure out what they are about! Very creepy, I guess you just have to watch them often enough (I watched Twin Peaks like 20 times by now, ahem). *is a huge Lynch fan* <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

Blade Trinity was the latest movie I've seen. It was falling flat on its face until the introduction of the wise cracking hunter (cant remember his name) and the total babe female hunter. Nice!
Over all it was the worst of the 3, but still ok.

Equilibrium is an excellent movie, very enjoyable, and better for me than all the matrix films.

Lord of the Rings series are my favourite films though.

ok but could have done better with a different approach to directing the movie

The original Nosferatu is still the best vampire movie, IMHO.
From Dusk Till Dawn is indeed a funny movie.
Vampires is not that bad at all.
Blade 2 is superior to Blade 1 because Guilemo Del Torro is a great director.
Blade 1 is a pretty good action movie.
Interview With A Vampire is a remarquable feat of book-to-movie transcription.
Queen of the Damned is as awful as IWAV was amazing.
Mel Brooks' Dracula is a good parody but not Mel's best.
Nosferatu Simply amazing. This film was miles ahead of it's time - acting, camera angles and scene transitions.
Shadow of the Vampire is a really impressive "what if" movie about the making of Nosferatu.

Of course all this are sorely my opinions.

I have two movies to watch today - Zatoichi (the Blind Samurai) and the movie - Escape from Gulag.

I know that Zatoichi is excellent Takeshi Kitano movie, but as for the second one, will have my impressions by tomorrow. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Yesterday I watched Windtalkers again <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> great one.

Ok, now that i have been forced to watch toy story about 3 times today ALONE..... (we have loads of others, from lionking, to nemo, to ice age...etc etc etc... the only ones that he wants to watch, is toystory, and nemo)

I watched the last samurai last night.... it had a brilliant story line... and just as good acting.

In the vampire collection i think we can leave out "Underworld" also a very good movie

IMHO Interview with the vampire and Queen of the Damned, should not be seen as sequels.... the mood of the movies are just too different. But both had brilliant acting, i loved the story of both, i absolutely LOVED the music in QOTD, and when you are slightly intoxicated, its just a very interesting movie <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" />

How sad... because The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned (the two books the movie was made from) are direct sequels to IWTV. To me, QotD the movie is like The Two Towers directed by John Woo.
Posted By: Lady_Rain Re: Latest movie u have seen!!! - 16/01/05 04:12 PM
Oh i agree about the books being sequels.... but what i mean is that the moods in the 2 movies are just UNBRIDGABLE... from a movie point of view, they should be seen as complete seperate movies.

I own the whole Vapire Chronicle collecction, been collecting them since i saw the movie Interview with the Vampire.... and yes... I like IWTV MUCH more than QOTD.... but when not viewed as a sequel... QOTD rises to a much higher quality than it would if you consider them a sequel.

Its recoded from 2 very different point of views. IWTV is nostalgic and mildly depressed (Louis), while QOTD is Compulsive, factual and i can almost call it ecstatic in its mad pace (Lestat), these 2 characters were like this in the books too... so i think that they captured the general disposition of the narators (Louis and Lestat) perfectly in the movies.

@galadriel Yes, of course! Blade is just so stylish! And I think I watched "Interview with a Vampire" like...dunno, 10 times or so. Well, I admit that was partly the merit of Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, too. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

Oh, and how could I forget about Nosferatu! Shame on me! It really is one brilliant movie. I am slowly getting the feeling that I watch TV too much! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Oh, while we are talking about brilliant movies and camera angles and such - basically all Hitchcock movies are awesome, I especially liked Vertigo. But, if you ask me, it's a sin to colourize them, I think they lose so much of the atmosphere! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

A friend of my father lend us The Last Samurai and Zatoichi and he said that The Last Samurai is as great as Zatoichi is a travesty to the movie industry. My father and I watched The Last Samurai together and got an overly good impression but then he watched Zatoichi and laughing, told me the next morning that I should definitly see it. Well, I laughed till the middle of the movie then turned it off... not too far from the scene were the blindman slaughtered all of the gamehouse guards and patrons... It was one of the worst movies I've seen and I've seen Vanilla Sky.

I really liked Zatoichi, very fun movie(s). Egin, did you see the old movies too?
Posted By: Egin Re: Latest movie u have seen!!! - 16/01/05 11:04 PM
DATD
Last samurai is a product of Hollywood, as all others fancy and polished. Kitano's and Kurosawa's movies are different. They stand and are based on japanese spirit, they describe will and strength of a warrior. Needless to say that this movie is funny too.
You could try Kurosawa old movies - they often look the same, comic and strange and too simple from the first look <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Rythok, yep I have seen many of them. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Just finished watching Escape from Gulag - correct translation will be -

So weit die Füße tragen (2001)

Excellent movie. First one I saw, where german soldier at WWII is shown from the positive side.

I have The Seven Samurai on the other computer: since I am very ill now, I'll watch it (I still haven't finished watching Troy. Watched half of it then went to sleep and forgot about the movie completely).
As for The Last Samurai being a product and Hollywood, I tell you: "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet".
The quote above can be reversed but I don't want to offend you so I won't put Zatoichi and biological by-products in the same sentence. Peace!

Now, what give you the idea that I like Hollywood? I like but a very limited selection of big budget Hollywood films and would always prefer to watch movies like Boondock Saints, Snatch, Lock Stock, Love Actually (the very best romantic comedy ever!), Equilibrium, Memento, Donnie Darko and... well you get my point.

allow the beard to disagree with death at the door.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" /> maybe Al can draw a picture of that. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />

anyway, i've seen (also watched it) Last Samurai & personally i felt that it's a lame movie though the early part is nice. lame? why? tom cruise practically is the Neo of the period. he walked in a white boy & out a samurai in a very short time. heck, even diploma takes longer time to finish.

just too unsound for me to digest the film & even the beautiful cinematography can't redeem the film in my eyes.

just me & Egin, death.

by the way, i have yet to watch zatoichi but it looks promising.

No it doesn't.

We have found differencies between us let us find similarities. We are here not to fight right? You don't like some movies, games I like - tht's ok, I can live wit that.

I do like many Hollywoodish movies. They are best budgeted, sentimental, patriotic. I do like Braveheart with Mel Gibson, Fifth Element with Bruce Willis, Saving Pryvate Ryan with Tom Henks.

Back on topic, I just saw Wolfgang Petersen's Troy.
A solid movie with well-structured battles that I trully enjoyed watching. So what it doesn't show what really happened? First of all, nobody can prove that he knows what trully happened and furthermore, it's more interesting to watch an original movie than an adaptation.
Troy looked good, my Mother taught a class on lit and they went and saw it and said it was good. Is it on dvd? Might rent it soon.

We had a full movie night yesterday. There was "Independece day", "Along came the spider" and "Crossroads". I watched the first one and the last one. I was pleasantly surprised by Britney Spears. She is not such a bad actress as I tought, the movie was better than I expected. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I read that Barta would like us to talk about the movie with the main actors. Well, I'll start and do my best for her. "Independence Day" is from Roland Emmerich. The main actors are Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, etc
"Along came the spider" is from I-don't-remember and with Morgan Freeman. (Didn't watched it properly, only during the commercialbreaks)
And earlier in the evening there wa "Crossroads" with Britney Spears. That's about it I can tell you about them. Bye <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

I've finally gotten around to watching Hellboy. Had the DVD for over a month before bothering to watch it.

I had my reservations but it was quite entertaining...There's something I've always liked about a cosmic horror or god that could be summoned to destroy everything...ala lovecraft.

Last night I watched on TCM a great (1959)
spanish movie subtitled in English called "Nazarin".
Man was that a great movie. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

Nazarin tells the story of Father Nazario (Francisco Rabal), a solemn, devout priest living amongst the poor in a turn-of-the-century rural Mexican village. The example he sets for the thieves, prostitutes, and beggars around his slum dwelling goes unappreciated at best; at every turn Nazario is mocked and taken advantage of. He remains gentle, though sanctimonious, in his efforts to live the lessons of Christ. Nazario befriends a suicidal girl, Beatriz (Marga Lopez), and takes in a streetwalker named Andara (Rita Macedo) who is wounded and bleeding after a knife fight in which she killed another prostitute. Church leaders defrock the priest after questioning him about the women, so he heads out on a pilgrimage to the countryside. The women follow as would-be disciples (or is it lovers?), and in his travels, Father Nazario continually finds that the pure Christianity he presents to his fellow man is both ineffectual and annoying.

Yesterday I finally saw "Signs", the movie everyone said it was boring. Well, this was a better movie then "The Village". Allthough that movie wasn't bad, they shouldn't have taken the thrill out of it right away.
But in Signs I sat on the edge of my chair.
And the day before that i watched "Raising Helen". Funny comedy and guys, Kate Hudson really looks like a blond J-Lo!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

I've finally managed to watch Secret Window.
Most people said that they didn't like it, but thats because they didn't understand it, I think. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />
Personally, I thought that it had a nice twist, and a good story. The novelet had a different ending though. It was well made, and the fact that Johnny Depp just had to be a bit funny, was good too <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />.

Add to that Electra (good but strange), The Incredibles (Disney is getting funner for all ages), and White Chicks (great, funny, gotta love the fact that noone notices the manliness of the disguised Waynes Bros.).

Also very hard to think of tom cruise as your average joe soap...but hey, the effects were amazing.

Well it's a different story really...aliens aren't from Mars...story is about one guy and his kids...but it's good on its own merits.

Very loosely based on HG Wells original story...in the same way that any other alien invasion movie could be said to be very loosely based on it...

I.E. aliens attack earth... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />

I know I have long ago. I've read The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings (part 1-3), the Silmarillion, and the Unfinished Tales.

To stay on subject...

I really liked the way they did the special extended editions. They did a good job of putting the stuff from the books into the extended movies (as best as probably could be done I think <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" /> ). Sure there are things they could have done differently, but don't we say that about all movies based on books?

We watched two movies in spanish. We watched 'Frida', a movie based on the life of the artist 'Frida'. It was not bad, but it's not a movie you recommend to others. She had a fascinating life... a very odd life... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

We also watched 'Mary, Full of Grace'. It was another not bad movie, more likely to be recommended to others than 'Frida'. It actually had a pretty good story.

It was pretty good, funny. I liked it; I'd watch it again. They did a really good job with how everyone was coping with the change. And I wont say more as to not spoil anything for those who have not watched it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Also, belive it or not, I just saw Road Trip. *gasp* he's only watched it just now? Yup, first time. Very funny. Thats all that need be said.

Then, Club Dread. I forgot this movie existed. It was funny, but its not a movie you watch again and again and again and again and again etcetera. Its just a movie you watch again and again and thats it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Ooo ooo! I watched a very good black and white movie called THE BAT with Vincent Price, a remarkable actor for his time. He acted in those old movies like the actors today. Amazing on his part. I was very impressed. I've also watched HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL that had him in it (not the new one, the original). I rented 5 movies...

Be Cool: It was a funny movie, and all about keeping it cool. I was expecting more, but it was acceptible. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> Many big actors. I think Get Shorty was better (the prequal).

Wayne's World 2: Also funny. With Mike Myers and the guy from The Master of Disguise, it was 'odd and fun, all in one'! Yaay, a rhyme! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/party.gif" alt="" /> I actually haven't seen the first one...

Cursed: It was not bad. They had very good ideas and put the old fashionned werewolf type concept in too. It was more of a funny-horror though; sort of the way the Scream trio was a funny scare. I was hoping for a darkness type horror with no happiness... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/XmasEek.gif" alt="" /> Yea, thats what a horror is supposed to be. Sort of like The Ring or The Grudge. Oh well, good enough.

Assult On Presinct 13: Very good! This one I was impressed with. Good acting. Good action. Good stuff. This action packed movie is a must see! I'm a commercial!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

AppleSeed: This is an Anime-type movie. Most people think: "Eww, its a cartoon so it sucks!" but they don't know that the Anime movies are actually some of the best. They are very artistic and symbolic, and always have amazing storylines (at least the action ones do). This one fits all my compliments. Incidently, I also recommend Final Fantasy: The Spirit Within. Both have tones of action, sybolism, and a great story. Also the Cowboy Beebop movie. But of course you can't be one of those over critical type of people to appreciate the sybolism in these movies. You can't disreguard their greatness because they're cartoons.

Last night I watched The Ninth Configuration, a (hilarious) comedy and 'theological thriller', for the fourth time. This is the only movie I ever watched twice in a row (of course I've watched a movie and special features back to back; with Final Fantasy I even watched the movie and 2 of the 3 full length commentaries in a row). There are a few WTF moments that you don't get until the end of the movie (if you haven't seen it before) and stuff going on you don't necessarily catch all of right away.
It is set in an insane asylum towards the end of the Vietnam war, with one of the inmates adapting the works of Shakespeare for dogs. The 2 main characters (primarily) get into the nature of good and evil and whether or not god exists (would go well with the Evolution vs creationism topic). It has a bit of a sucky ending, but overall it is a very good movie.

After that I watched Laser Mission, about a freelance agent sent to "...recover the scientist who holds the deadly formula that could destroy the world". The scientist in question is a physicist who worked on lasers, kidnapped to force into developing a weapon using his knowledge and the largest diamond in the world (fist sized).
If rubies can be used to make lasers, then obviously diamonds make the best lasers. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ROFL.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ROFL.gif" alt="" />
This movie features bad acting, bad dialog, bad writing and bad special effects... all the things that make a good B movie. Even though it stars Brandon Lee, there are only a couple of fights, and they are poorly done. Overall it is an ok B movie, but needs fewer car chases and more martial arts.

"Infinite goodness means creating a being that you know in advance is going to complain."
- Captain Cutshaw, in The Ninth Configuration

The Life Aquatic : I was extreamly dissapointed. How could they screw up with so many good actors. I... I didn't know it was possible, OK? Sure there were a few parts that you'll give a polite laugh too so you don't hurt the movies feelings, but over all it sucked. Way too booring. I was sad... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" />

The Day After Tomorrow : Not the first time I've seen it. It was very interesting. Some people were overcritical about it, saying it wasn't interesting, but I beg to differ. The most fascinating part is that it makes some scientific sense that it may happen in the future! I love it when the movies can have some sort of true or untrue scientific evidence that the event is possible. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Hitch : Again, not for the first time. I was dissapointed again. Not that it wasn't good. I was just expecting better. It was funny, oh yes. And had a good storyline. There was just too much falling in love! Its all well and good, but not what I want to be entertained with! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/suspicion.gif" alt="" /> But, I'll say again, just because I didn't enjoy it, it doesn't mean it was a bad movie.

Friday Night Lights : A very well done movie, though I wasn't surprised when... <span class='standouttext'>Spoiler : </span><span class='spoiler'> they lost in the end </span> . Its happend in too many movies already to be a big surprise anymore. But overall it was good in story and sports action.

Full Metal Alchemist - The Curse : I know this is a series, but I rented it as a movie so I'll refer to it as one! It is the first four episodes. Another Anime (can't get enough! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> ). It was very good. It contains some of the childish fun that alot of Anime series have, but it also carried with it an awsome story and great stuff.

Killerzzz

P.S.: Know what I find unfortunate? Alot of people think Anime is pornographic because of some unexpected pop-ups you see on the internet with the word ANIME stamped on it. Please don't get the wrong impression. I've mentioned many anime movies farther up that don't contain a hint of that type of vulgarity.
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ouch.gif" alt="" /> I know I'm defending anime alot, but I only do that because it is less known of. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

@ Killerzzz
Well, LOTR is defenitly my favo movie of all times!! Nothing can beat that trilogy!!
And then there is also Forrest Gump, on my top 20 list. I have seen that movie like 30 times and I still love it! "One day it started raining, and it didn't quit for four months..."
From there on, I have such a variety on tastes, but something that is not my taste, is the kind of movies like Wayne's World, or Naked Gun (nothing with Leslie Nielsen in it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> ) or Porky's, that kind a humour is not for me. Also types like Married with Children are good to make me vomit!
If you want to make me laugh, give me a show like Friends or SATC. And I do have a big taste in movies, movies is my favo topic to talk about! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

I agree that they can be very... unlikable. I like to be open with my opinions of movies. The fact that I said that The Life Aquatic was a little funny is an example of that. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" /> I didn't really enjoy Wayne's World 2 as much as a movie should make me entertained.
On that note, I'm even now not so entertained by Austin Powers 1 and 2. I find three funny, but all the first two have for me are a few good funny parts. The others are just cheap laughs. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

You metionned you liked Forest Gump. Have you seen The Green Mile (also with Tom Hanks)? That was also a good one. The only kind of movie I don't like is the type where theres no good story. If theres a good story, then I'll enjoy it. No action needed, no comedy needed (though they help); just a good story and some interesting theories.

To stay on subject of this thread...:

I've watched The Langoliers lately. It could easily be classified as boring if you can't appreciate the amazing idea and story and theories it contains. I liked it. Though the cruddy graphics of the actual Langoliers in the movie do the book no justice.

I think I saw most of Tom Hanks's movies. From Splash, Joe versus the volcano, Sleepless in Seattle to The Terminal, Cast away, and even The ladykillers, allthought that last one was not really one of his best, it was actually one of is worst movies ever, if I may say so. I loved the Green Mile, especially the big black guy in it, Michael Clarke Duncan, he was just that kind of teddybear that you would keep hugging <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I had fun with what the guards did to Percy Wetmore <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" />

If there is a comedy that would alawys make me laugh, it's one with Jacky Chan in it. He is sooo funny, even if he acts very serious, you can see in his face that he like to have fun. He has those twinklings in his eyes... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/kissyou.gif" alt="" />

His movies are always funny, especially his older ones. I enjoyed his newer ones, but they have been going a little downhill rather than up... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" /> Too bad.

Latest movie I've seen:

Wedding Crashers !!!! Extremely funny movie. Too bad it all had to be sexual funny. It doesn't bother me, but then you can't enjoy it with a lot of other people who are offended by it... Meh, oh well. Good movie. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Just watched an absolute ANCIENT movie... but still a good one...

The pit and the pendulum.....

Unlike the book (which was the reason i wanted to see it), it has nothing to do with a sick person's ravings about torture... it was about the 1600's church... and the witch burnings....

A young couple, gets seperated in a crowd.... a priest sees the girl, and takes a "liking" to her.... has her imprisoned for witchcraft.... her husband tries to free her, and gets imprisoned for that.... The priest naturally, makes sure that she gets convicted (if you could call it a trial), of the said witchcraft. Since she is now HIS prisoner, he takes advantage of the situation, and tries to tempt her into bedding with him, in return for her freedom... She doesnt (neither would I, he was UGLY), but later on, he does force her to...... he also cuts out her tounge so that she cannot speak of the wrong done to her.

Long story short... she DOES eventually escape, after months of unspeakable toruture for her and her husband. And good prevailed when the priest died a horrible death in his own torture chamber.

That was the movie I was talking about a little while ago! I still have bad dreams about that movie. The way the sword was hanging above his bed, when he takes those scissors to cut off her tongue, when the inquision undressed her and made fingerprints on her body, so she would have the marks. It has been over 8 years since I saw that movie, but I still can't forget about it. It was one of the most horrifying movies for me, especially because things like that really happened. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/puppyeyes.gif" alt="" />

I've just watched Race To Freedom on T.V. It's a movie based on the book Underground To Canada . Both the book and the movie were very well done. It's not for all the action fanats, but its got a really good story.

Again on television, I saw Double Take . Another very good movie, for everyone who enjoys a clean, funny, action movie. Watch it. You don't know who to trust, and who to avoid. It's twisted and turining. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I rented 5 movies again today, (or yesterday, givin its 1:30 in the morning <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> ) but I'll put them all in one post later once I've watched them all. Two down, three to go... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

I've also watched Dragon Ball Z: Brolly, the Second Comming . I like DBZ. A good series and the movies are fun too. There's action and a bit of little jokes in there for dramatic relief. I think that in this particular movie, (#10) they put too much comedy and not enough crazy Brolly action. Oh, well...

I saw Bad Boy Bubby the other night. That was really good. It's about Bubby. Bubby has been locked in his one room apartment for 35 years by his selfish mother. All he understands is what his mother teaches him, just enough to keep control over him through fear. Bubby's father returns one day, not even knowing that he got the mother pregnant. Bubby is soon forgotten as mother now has a more human companion. Left to his own devices, he tries to learn to live in society, having no social, language or life skills. Of course, no one realises his predicament, thinking he is simply a retard or a sicko (perverted, creepy person.) It's amazing how he manages to get along and begin to learn, despite the number of crimes he unwittingly comits. It's full of sick and twisted ideas, but even the squirmish just has to see what happens next. Highly recommended.

Still watching those 5 movies I'll put into one post later.

For now, one from the movies:

Red Eye : A very good thriller (or drama, I've heard it called both <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> ). Full of suspence. I liked it, and so did my bros. and my dad. "What's going to happen next? Can this end well? Ooooooo!!!" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

I would recommend it. I hear it's being called the #2 movie out in theatres right now (just after Wedding Crashers ). That fact is understandible. It's also great that you watch the movie and say: "Whoa! That could really happen!!" There's no farfeched garbage. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Watch and enjoy. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

Here's the five (finally <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> ):

Ghost in the Shell series: Episodes 1-4. Yea, I didn't find the movie yet, so I rented this set of the first four episodes. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Its good. Not action-packed, but it has some good action, nice theories of the 'ghost in the machine' theory, among other things.

Hero : Jet Li! Why have you dissapointed me??? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" /> It has a good story, it has a good actor, it has alot of artisticness. But the fighting... its so fake I cried. Its like one of those movies that are trying to make fun of old movies that did that. Oh well... and I was so hyped about watching that movie... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />

Godsend : Very well done. Its spooky, sad, mysterious, twisted, and connected together. You can't believe what just happened. Whats going on with the boy? Ooooo! Very nice. I recommend it for sure.

The Ninth Gate : It was weird. I really liked the puzzle hiddin in the books that Johnny Depp needs to uncover. Is the Ninth Gate a bunch of mumbo-jumbo, or is the dark secret more than just that? He adds in some funny parts, as usual. There are a few odd scenes, and I leave it at that. The whole idea for the adventure is good. I like the movies where people are killing for a secret that one person is trying to uncover.

Hearts in Atlantis : If you like movies that are about the not-so-happy life of a child who could be the average, than this is the movie for you. Its a family movie (Stephen King writing a family story? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> Well, he did write The Green Mile. ) But this is not the average of such movies: it's written by the King. He adds the intersting stuff about the Low Men, and if you've read his books (particularily the Dark Tower series) then you may see a connection between this movie and some others (movies and books). A must watch for anyone who likes a family movie with a slight supernatural twist.

Killerzzz

P.S.: Galadriel, I think Hearts in Atlantis is one you'd like. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

P.P.S.: Ooo! I almost forgot. I just watched The Lord of the Rings extended trilogy again. I'd just like to point out what many already know. Its just beautiful. The most amazing movie-making I've seen, probably. And the extended scenes really help with stuff that the first set of movies had left out. I love it!!! Watch it and enjoy it!! If you can't enjoy this trilogy, I don't know how you can enjoy any movies at all. Bam!

I liked Hero, but that is because of the fighting scenes. I'm a great fan of those types of movies, because the fighting is more like a ballet, a dance, not agressive at all. It's artistic. so u've finally watched the series. is it the first season or the second? anyway, the series are called Standalone Complex. handefood has watched them as well (on the telly, i think) & he liked it. each series has 26 episodes, both are among the best series i've watched, anime or otherwise. the action is cerebral, the plots are intelligent - it's truly incredible.

fyi, the storylines in both seasons are mix of manga adaptations & original stuff. the adaptation from manga are not only from the original Ghost In The Shell manga, there are some stories in the series that are also adapted from the sequel of the original manga which is Man-Machine Interface (MMI).

But The Dark Tower was the most amazing book series I have ever read. Its the most fascinating, and outstanding story I have ever read (in my opinion). The ideas King comes up with are... wow. Anyway, I found a flaw in the plot (for the otherwise so great episode I <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />). In the beginning, when Obi Wan Kenobi tells Luce to go to whatevertheplanetwascalled and see Yoda, he allso mentions that Yoda was the one who taught him to be a jedi! Explain THAT! (Note that he had another master in the first movie... And no, I don't remember his name...)

Dude Where's My Car -- Maybe I was wrong expecting... anything from this movie. Very stupid film. Sometimes, a movie is just so stupid that it becomes funny, but that didn't really happen here for me. I'd recommend it to people who are stupid, or who need excercise in being stupid. Has Ashton Kutcher in it (Kelso from that 70's) who makes Kelso look like a genius in comparison.

Lost In Translation -- Liked it, and I'm not even sure why. I had the same feeling with The Virgin Suicides (same director, Sofia Coppola). The performances in both movies are superb.

Band of Brothers -- Last episode aired last weekend here (for the second time though) and although I didn't feel it brings something we haven't seen before, it does bring it in the best way I've ever seen.

Sin City -- Great photography, extremely rough movie. Doesn't feel "Pulp Fiction" to me at all. Had the feeling it wasn't going anywhere for the first half of the movie, but in the end it seems cohesive afterall.

Mr and Mrs Smith -- Enjoyable but not very memorable movie. The couple Jolie-Pitt works <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

That trailer for The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy -- Original trailer! Very funny. Not sure if the movie will be as funny though, but really, I have no way of knowing that.

wow, kej, i like lost in translation too. the soundtracks are really nice. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

sin city is way way way far from pulp fiction in style or anything. but it's really nice. it's more of a collection of short stories to me.

as for the movie adaptation of douglas adams's book, i have yet to watch it. i missed it in the cinemas but i think i might go for dvd as the reviews have been very positive.

Technically, that's what it is (being based on Frank Miller's Sin City comics). And so will the two in pre-production sequels be <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

I loved this movie too. Check out one called Code 46. It's in cinemas here at the moment so it may be on DVD in the US. It has a similar feel to Lost in Translation. You like it and you can't quite say why.

It is a great movie! It's not the radio series, or the book, or the TV series. It's the Hollywood movie, so don't go in expecting it to be something else. Once you're past that, it's great fun! It's the only movie I've seen twice in the cinemas.

Its The Empire Strikes Back and I can explain your plot-flaw.

You see, it may have actually been Yoda who found Obi Wan and tought him the ways of the force before putting him under Qui Gon Jinn.

Or it was Yoda who taught him at the Jedi Acadamy as you see him doing for other youglings in episode II ( The Clone Wars ).

Or he could also be considering after <span class='standouttext'>Spoiler : </span><span class='spoiler'> Qui Gon dies </span> and so Obi Wan might have trained under Yoda for a while during the testing to become a true Jedi.

I think the last idea is the least likely, and the second is the real reason.

So, I movie I've watched lately:

Sin City : I actually watched it today. Or... last night. Come to think of it, it started last night, and ended this morning. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> Well, I loved it. Great stories, great action, great job with the artisticness of the caracters and colours. Just great. The was some aspects were not-so-realistic sort of caught me off guard at first ( <span class='standouttext'>Spoiler : </span><span class='spoiler'> Dang! That big guy got hit by a car like four times, head on, and got right up!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> </span> ) but I easily adapted it as the type of movie. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> I liked it and am buying it A.S.A.P.

Gunna watch XXX: State of the Union tomorrow, and will probably talk about it soon. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

Never thought I would see a film in 5 pieces!! Because of my busy work lately, I couldn't see "The Aviator" in one evening, so everytime when I had some spare time, I saw a piece of the movie. Let's just say, Leonardo plays very well, must be difficult to repeat those particular lines like 30 times, Cate Blanchett was not bad as Katherine Hepburn (but I like her more as Galadriel <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> )
The movie in general was good enough to see, and I'm not a big Leonardo-fan.
Posted By: killerzzz Re: Latest movie u have seen!!! - 05/09/05 06:54 AM
Movies I've just seen:

XXX: State of the Union : It's not as good as the first one, but it's decent enough as a sequal. Better as a sequal than Too Fast Too Furious was (I actually thought that movie was a failure; too much trying to be too ganster by all the caracters, weak acting, etcetera).

Starship Troopers : Not for the first time. It's a great movie. Well done, especially for its time. It's not too old, but its gettin' there (1997). I loved the ideas, the action, the all out crazyness. If you like action movies about a war against unstopping brutal insectoid aliens, than this is a movie for you. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

I've just seen The Brothers Grimm, directed by Terry Gilliam (Monty Python). Wonderful movie. Don't expect humor like in The Quest for the Holy Grail, this movie is a lot more serious. Some parts are still quite funny though.

I recommend this to anyone who likes good movies.

I've just remembered that I've seen The Brothers Grimm got too long ago.

I'd like to say that I agree with everything Rythok said. Their ideas were very nice. Its sort of like a 'dark side of the fairy tales' movie.

<span class='standouttext'>Spoiler : </span><span class='spoiler'> The Gingerbread Man idea was terrible but amazing. </span> And whether anyone wants to believe me or not, a few years ago I had a dream where the exact thing happend, though I didn't think of the caracter as <span class='standouttext'>Spoiler : </span><span class='spoiler'> the Gingerbread Man </span>, and there were less villagers and trees around. Srange huh? I had forgotten the dream, but when I saw the movie I thought: "WHOA! I've seen this somewhere before... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />"
Coincidence? Or are movie makers reading my dreams?!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/XmasEek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />

Equilibrium: Was better then I expected, since I'm no big fan of such sci-fi movies
Don't say a word: Very nice roll for Brittany Murphy, and I must say, I was sitting on the edge of my chair for a while...
Birth: Very well done, allthought I have a déja-vu with that other movie about reïncarnation ( Chances are ) but this one was far from funny. It wasn't the best movie I saw, but you have to give Nicole Kidman the credit she deserves, she played VERY good and that made up for the rest of the movie. Especially her facial expression in the theatre scene when the camera is focused on her for about 5 minutes. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />
Far and Away: My favorite of the Cruise-Kidman movies, nice Irish accent (I just loooove that!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> ) and good story too, of course well played by the both of them.

Don't ask where I found the time to watch soo many movies, but it's sunday and the girl can be lazy for a chance, right? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" />

I also saw "Sweet Home Alabama": nice romantic movie with the usual happy end <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Flight of the Phoenix: Awfully bad and unrealistic. There were so many issues that bothered me that I hardly felt like finishing it. There are so many movie clichés in this movie that it's just ridiculous.
Posted By: galadriel Re: Latest movie u have seen!!! - 21/09/05 09:54 PM
The Gift: Paranormal drama starring Cate Blanchett, Gregg Kinnear, Keanu Reeves etc... I liked that movie, it had lots of scary moments and I liked Cate Blanchett as the psychic "fortune teller"
Once Upon A Time In Mexico: Very good actionmovie about the famous Il "Antonio Banderas" Mariachi and his girl Salma Hayek. I just love that movie, but it has mostly to do with the hottie in it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

I truly hated that film - thought it was rubbish in the extreme - an interesting idea though, ruined.

"that guy who only dies upon looking at his own portrait " is based on

'The Picture of Dorian Gray' - by Oscar Wilde
http://www.upword.com/wilde/dorgray.html

The last film I've seen was an old old one.

The Dark Crystal - Jim hensons great fantasy story - with puppets (not muppets)!
Seen it a long time ago, just watched it again the other day.

I finally saw SIN CITY!

Heard good things about it so rented it on saturday!

Love the visual style...the film just looks amazing.

Also a damn good film as well - Mickey Rourke is brilliant as Marv, and his story was the best in the film. After that it slowed down a little too much but was still enjoyable.

Certainly recommended to anyone who like comic book violence and artistic style.

At least it's better than Advent Children: all the idiocy of Final Fantasy plus all of the DragonBall Z ridiculous things.
Advent Children was the last movie I saw and there isn't much to say about it except that I was extremely dissapointed, annoyed, aggravated and I want those 90 minutes of my life back.

I was watching "Gangs Of New York" yesterday. It's a very good but cruel movie. It's the first time I saw Daniel Day-Lewis as a very bad guy. I only know him from "The Last Of The Mohicans". <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" /> Maybe I saw him in other movies too, but It's very possible that I forgot about them.
I love historic movies, and this is one of them. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

Today I saw "28 Days Later". This movie wasn't very impressive to me. It's a bit like "been there, done that" kind of thing. The actors weren't playing that well and I only liked the performance of Brendan Gleeson in it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/down.gif" alt="" />

I saw Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events and enjoyed it. It'a light, easy to watch movie, the characters and universe are interesting and it is visually very beautiful. Jim Carey doesn't exagerate too much. I loved his dinosaur imitation. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

After that I watched Looking for Alexander ( Mémoires affectives ). The story is not particularly original and the rythm is slow, but the atmosphere and images are great. Not to be enjoyed by everyone, but I liked it.

Not long ago I also saw for the second time The Red Violin (Le violon rouge). It's original, very beautiful to see & hear; not an easy movie, though. It is known to be whether absolutely loved or the inverse; as for me, I enjoyed it too.

Mind Hunters : Brilliant twisted movie. I like the way the killer works everyone against eachother. Mouahahahahaaaaa... Iehieheheheeehhh! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif" alt="" /> Who did it? Who did it? Who's the killer? You'll have to wait 'till the end, when all the traps have gone off, to find out.

Jurassic Park : I can never get tired of that one. I think its the best of the three. Its true that the second has more action, but this one has much more story, twists, reality, broken-dreams, emotion, etcetera. Its not just, kill kill kill, you know? It has more of a point to it, and is much more artistic.

Oh, I hope you're all ready for alot of movies. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" /> I've been watching them lately, but forgetting to put it here. Now I must make up for it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Van Helsing : Pretty good movie, I like the way they portrayed the acting of the vampires (weird, poetic,... artistic). Its very enjoyable, but the critics ripped it up because Hugh Jackman is basically playing a character who is the same as Wolverine in X-Men.

By this I mean: a man who is haunted by the past he forgets; who fights for a cause he does not understand; who meets the one man that can unlock his dark past, but who decides to destroy that man and his past with it because it shows he was a bad person. The the same basic thang. Other than that, yea I enjoyed the movie. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

National Treasure : A good movie starring Nicolas Cage and Sean Bean. I like this particular treasure hunt movie. Nice fun history mixed with clues and peices of the puzzel, all soaked in a nice layar of crime and action. Mmmmm. Yum.

Sahara : Didn't like this one too much though. It was one of those movies where the hero was kinda 'too kool for school'. I dunno, I just had a bad vibe for it. The movie itself was well done, and I would recommend others to see it... but I just didn't like it and I can't explain why. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />

Ladder 49: Starring Joaquin Phoenix and John Travolta. I liked this one. It was one of those movies about the tragedy and happiness of life, but of the life of a fireman. It had a nice pleasant story, a good deal of sad sceans and terrible tragedies, and the fires scenes are grate. They show the heroics of a firefighter nicely. I like how they go back and forth from the past to the current terrible thing thats happening.

Impostor : I really liked this one. Gary Sinise and Vincent D'Onofrio star in this sci-fi thriller. You'll be guessing who is right and how it will turn out in the end, but you will not see it comming. Even after they make you sure you were right on your guess, or wrong, they make you way wrong by throwing a hugemungus twist. Bam! "Think your right huh... well your not! Ha! Look what we did! Didn't see that comming did-j'ya?" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/badsmile2.gif" alt="" /> I mean, even after you're done saying " Ooooh , thats what it was." they twist it even more until it feels like its gunna break!

Timeline : This moive excellently portrays the middle ages, and puts to shame all those other cruddy movies about people from the now who go back in time to the castles. In real life, you wouldn't be welcomed by the guards, and teach the king slang and to eat bubblegum or something. You'd be cut down! The arrows scene is very nice; anyone whos seen it knows what I mean. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

End of Days : Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. I really liked how he had more character in this movie, than in his others. In his others, he's a super duper unstoppable killing machine. Here, he is a man, with feelings, a dark past, who has lost his faith, who must be smart to pull through. Very well done, and the few evil sexual scenes, are actually kinda necessary to complete the plot and the atmosphere of the movie, and to portray the character of the devil.

Big Mama's House : Martin Lawrence, funny guy. I've seen it before, but its a movie you can watch again, and agian, and again, and keep laughing. Undercover as a giant old woman, doin' his thang. Very, very funny. If you like Martin Lawrence's humor, than watch this. Now. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/freak.gif" alt="" />

Friday Night Lights : A pretty good football movie, but they don't get enough into the characters. Its mostly about the game and the teams progress to greatness. I liked Remember The Titans much better. It had a better deeper story, where the white players and black players learn to leave racism aside, and be freinds and play as a team. Then there's their path to greatness at the same time too.

Ocean's Twelve : Starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt and Catherine Zeta-Jones and Matt Damon. Very funny, though I think I liked the first one better... no... I don't know. They both have their ups and downs. They're both good though. Its a bunch of guys doing massive stealing jobs and they all have their specialties. The great thing is that they are all a bunch of goofs, but who get the job done anyhow and play it cool even when things are really sucking. Its a really fun movie.

Secret Window : Starring Jonney Depp. A Stephen King thrillar. I really liked the madness and the pre-segnificance of all that follows. Its well played out, and Jonney manages to throw in a bit of humour. I liked the book much much better (more madness madness madness, sybolism, significance, tragedy) but hey, its always like that. They can't be expected to make it as good as the King writes it can they?

Cradle 2 The Grave : Jet Li!! Hayya!! A really good fighting-action movie. Jet Li is doin' his stuff great, and DMX plays his part very well. Good story, good action, good humour... good stuff. If you like Jet Li, this you must see.

Contract Killer : A much older moive of Jet Li, that was actually translated into english (or whatever you're watching it in, unless its chinese , then its not translated <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> ). I liked it. It has that old chinese movie humour that you see in alot of Jackie Chan's erlier movies, but it also has Jet Li's massive brutal fighting style.

Family Guy Presents -- Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story : Yaaay! Family Guy! Well, the movie was very very funny. But, of course, they had some slow parts. But you can't expect it to be none stop funny like in the episodes, when its a full legnth movie. The super funny jokes they have make up for any slowness though.

Unleashed : Jet Li again. I really liked this because it has amazing fighting action, compliments of Jet Li, but also has a good story to it. Some critics attacked the slow middle, where the more emotional part of the movie takes place, but the action makes up for it. Very well done, very nice.

Doom : The Rock and Karl Urban star in this one. Theres good sci-fi to be seen at the start to keep you buisy as the story begins and the action awaits. Then you start getting the thill and action going. The science continues, and evil is released. People were nervous about the first-person-shooter type view seen in commercials, but their is no need to worry. They only do it at one scene, for a good reason, and with good taste.

The Mask of Zorro : Starring Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Not for the first time, I enjoyed this movie. Ecellently portrayed Zorroness and action and humour and romance all jampacked into one. The atmosphere is awsome and the bluntness adds alot to the realisticness.

The Legend of Zorro : Starring Antonio Banderas, Rufus Sewell, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. I liked the first one better (better story, realisticness, atmosphere, story....) but this was a very good one too. Much fun and much action. A bit slower, but still there!

And thats all for now. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" /> How many is that... 1... 2... 3... ... 20? About there. Wiew! Took a long time to write.

I've been watching them lately, but forgetting to put it here. Now I must make up for it.

Actually, to emphasize on my lazyness, I just noticed I forgot to mention another movie I've seen lately. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />

Star Wars Episode III : I had seen it in theatres, but we had a mini-family gettogether to watch this on my ucle's big screen. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> Very nice. I liked this one much more than Episodes I and II because it had alot of action, the war, the romance, and the push of the Dark Side. Very emotional one; the anger, the loss, the hate, the love, the fear, the terror...

Leonardo seems to be attracted to play roles where he can be a character that is either the youngest or the first in stuff. "Catch me if you can" was not bad, but I think it was more because of the performance of Tom Hanks, imo. You should try to watch "The Aviator" too, with Cate Blanchett as Katherine Hepburn. She is beyond recognition from the Elf Galadriel to the actress Katherine Hepburn. Well done!

But anyway...I have read all the books...multiple times and yeah dont get me wrong the movie was entertaining and all but it was way too much teen drama and not enough of telling the story. And of course having read the book I for some reason remember every little detail and the movie drove me crazy at how poorly it reflected the book. If you havent read any of them you will likely love the movie, personally I enjoy the books so much that since they changed directors after the second one I have not been impressed...oh and the casting of characters has bugged me too, everything is over dramatized...again too much teen drama not enough story...they try and fit so much of the crap in that the movie doesnt even feel coherent...they have to jump from scene to scene without so much as an indent!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" />

Having seen all the previous Harry Potter films, but never read the books, I could only judge them on what I saw without comparing them to the books.

Now I'm pretty sure I'd like the books to a point, but I thought all the films were terrible. The first 2 being particularly jumbled and incoherent. Watching them I could tell they tried to fit everything possible from the books in, and what happens is you get a mish-mashed load of scenes with gaps.

By the end of each one I thought what was all that about?

I remember when the first 2 films were out and I saw an interview with JK Rowling - they asked her about the films and what she thought of the adaption. Naturally she was diplomatic, her only comment about that in that interview was 'Well I like the mandrakes, I thought that was exactly how I imagined them.'

Thats 20 seconds of the 2nd film I think... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

Plowie, so they did, but they did a terrible job at it too. They took scenes in the wrong turn, emphsised on the wrong things, while leaving some important things out completelly. I didn't like the first film, and I totally hated the second.

And if you've read a book so much you remember every detail of it (like me, who had read the first book like ten times when I saw the first movie), you shouldn't see it, because it will only dissappoint you.

@ Plow

You should read the books, I may be 23 (almost 24!!! Dec 29th) but I have never enjoyed reading anything more. I literally laugh out loud while I read them. The story is enthralling as well. Let me put it this way, the 5th book (order of the Pheonix) is around 600 pages I think, maybe longer and I read it in less than 24 hours, I actually called in sick to work to finish it.

Best fantasy books ever IMO

The Weel of Time is better...

And the books is really easy to read. After all, first hand they ARE kids books. That's allso why the story is a bit... too comfortable. It allways starts after the whorst summer ever, and it the end it might allways be the best summer ever (you'd think he'd see a pattern after four summers seeming more promising than ever turning out whorse than ever...). But despite this, it is good books. I enjoyed them more a couple of years ago though (MUCH more). But still, I will wish for the sixth book this christmass. Wonder when I'll get time to read it though. Starting a big litteraturework in school soon, I'm supposed to read eight novels until May.

I gave up on that series pretty quickly (after 3rd book) - wasn't for me.

My brother has read the potter books and says they are very good (and he's 34).

He also liked the Wheel of Time however...

Still I'd rather read the potter books because I know they are mainly for kids and enjoy them, than read the Wheel of Time and be dreadfully disappointed that they turned out to be too kiddie for me!

Saw 2 : Just as devilishly fascinating as the first one. Its grusome and disgusting but interesting to see the psychology of the man behind the trap. The Saw movies are basically about a man who kidnaps people who don't appreciate their life, and puts them in an amazing puzzel-situation. They will have to undertake much self-sacrifice and pain to get through. Will they?...

They should have made it a half hour longer (its already 2 and a half hours long, what difference will a total of 3 hours make?); that way they could have added in alot more Harry Potter storyline.
If you agree, give me a 'Yay!' and if you don't, give a 'Nay!'.
One positive thing to say on it though: the new Dumbeldore did better in this one than he did in Harry Potter 3. Good for him, noone cares.

Amen - to sum up what it's about I quote from wikipedia:

Kurt Gerstein (August 11, 1905 in Münster, Westfalia - July 25, 1945), was a member of the Institute for Hygiene of the Waffen-SS and witnessed mass murders in the concentration camps Belzec and Treblinka. He is said to have contacted a Swedish diplomat as well as members of the Catholic Church with contacts to Pope Pius XII in order to inform the international public about the holocaust. In 1945 he wrote the Gerstein Report about this. Afterward he committed suicide.

A semi-fictional movie about his emotional search of his Christian values and ultimate decision to betray the SS by attempting to expose the Holocaust by way of informing the Catholic Church, Amen, was released in 2002, starring Ulrich Tukur as Kurt Gerstein and directed by Costa-Gavras.

I find it quite disarming, but in a good way. It starts off not looking like a fantasy movie, but then the magic gets thrown in. Now, at the start of the magic, you may get worried that its just gunna be a kiddie story of a magestic land. Don't be. The story, the adventure, and the action soon to come are amazing; and amazingly done. I seriously thought they were going to mess up (it just looked possible with the commercials; you know how some are like that?) but they pulled through and made a very good movie. Yaay for them! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

I saw a movie yesterday. With Eija Wood. It was (and for all I know still is <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />) about West Ham United's firm ie a bunch of West Ham hooligans. Eija Wood plays a guy who gets thrown out of Harward because of something his roomate did, and goes to London to meet his sister. His sister's husband's brother is the leader of the "firm" (as these orginizations is called), and he promises to take Eija (who isn't called Eija in the film) to a West Ham game. Of cause they get in a fight afterwars... Anyway, it's a good movi9e, especially if you like football (even though there isn't much football in it).

The Tailor from Panama. Based on a John LeCarre book, it's about a spy (Pierce Brosnan) who goes to Panama to check on the canal (his last chance, after some big scandal). He goes to the town's best tailor, and asks him to fill him in on the situation in town. A good movie, kinda funny in it's own way (not that it aims on being funny, some of the scenes just is).

i just saw that Narnia movie.
it was awful...
the animations were very good, and it was exiting to see so much mythological creatures on the screen,
but there was no "red line" during the movie.
the battles were frustrating,
and what the hell did santa claus doing in the movie? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" />
I was mad as hell, they put "christmas" in a fantasy setting!

so i was dissapointed about the movie, but not the animations

IIRC Santa is in the book. No doubt that is why he is in the movie.

Hehe... My brother, a highly paid robotics engineer, finally bought a DVD player about a year ago. The first thing they watched was Men in Black 2. After putting the disc in and watching the pretty little menu animations for a few minutes, his wife turned to him and whispered "I think it wants us to do something."

I'll give him credit that MiB2 doesn't have the most obvious menu. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Just watched the new version of "War of the Worlds" on DVD.
The action was as to be expected, very spectacular, but the story line of I must save my children and get them to the other parents, is the same in almost any Disaster movie these days!!...7/10.

Since I've got a DVD now, and my bestfriend (who's got a big DVD-collection) knows this, I've watched quite a lot of film these last days. Two to be exact (maybe not that much, but two films in three days is a lot considered that I used to watch fewer than one film/week). The films where Miller's Crossing. A Choen-brothers movie, a gangstermovie this time. High quality as usuall with the Choen-brothers.

Nest movie was Mystic River (directed by Clint Eastwood, story after a book). A thriller, it circles around three friends. One of them got ciddnapped and used as a child (the first scene was the three kids writeing in wet cement, and one of them being lured into a car of someone claiming to be police for it), one other owns a store and one is a police. One day they find an empty car in their old neighbourhood (where two still live (not the police))...

- chip
- scrap

So this whole name doesn't make sense to me ...

'The Matador' featuring Pierce Brosnan

If you want to see Brosnan playing the 'anti-Bond' then watch this movie. I thought it was very cool. No real big action, but very watchable, and funny.

Other 'intellectual' movies

Good night and Good Luck-Factual. Clooney and Co. play the parts of NBC TV news reporters/editors in the McArthy era.
Enron-Documentary
Supersize me-Documentary
The Chumscrubber-very cool 'dissafected youth' movie, following in the wake of "Pump up the volume" and "Heathers" IMO. Disturbing and cool. Proably only available on video/DVD

The Wienerschnitzel you eat in Vienna is of course cause Vienna means Wiener in German. So the Wienerschnitzel is originally from Vienna, the other kind you like better is Cordon Bleu, I think this one is invented in France or even possibel in Belgium. It's the same but with a slice of ham and cheese in, very good but very heavy, I prefer Schnitzel with Turkey, mostly very flat, but soo crusty <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Hostel presented by, but otherwise completely unrelated to, Quinten Tarrentino.

It's about a trio of backpackers searching for wild European women. They find said women, and then begin to dissappear one by one...

The first thirty to sixty minutes is crap. It's an assortment of soft porn and unnecessary R18+ graphic violence. The remaining thirty minutes is worth the wait. If the movie was rated MA15+, I would have enjoyed it a lot more. The violence really does detract from the film, unless that's your sort of thing.

well, as an X-men fan (I've read the commic's)
I was dissapointed about the movie.
the only thing this movie had was the special effects.
but the whole movie -storyline- was just plain terrible

a few I didn't like.
that helmet of juggernout (one of my favourite baddies)
WTH was that? it look like it was made of isolation foam!
phoenix, who had no real story line then just standing there and made her moves
the white neutralisation kid, who didn't play a big role in the movie.(atleast for me)
wolverine who just brutaly kills people off. (ok that wat he is, but the movie shows him like he is a real hero instead of a dark beast)
etc..
Posted By: janggut Re: Latest movie u have seen!!! - 26/06/06 02:21 AM
yeah, X3 does disappoint me as well, bean. a few issues not far off from yours;

1. no emotional connection to the characters, which makes it worse than the second. the first is the best in my opinion.
2. it's really nice to have so many characters in the movie but TOO many with TOO little time on them, it's a sin. they might as well be excluded.
3. i like the storyline; well thought out. however execution is another matter altogether; the dialogues suck monkey balls. hearing the lame lines written for a mature character like Magneto is like hearing fingernail scratching the blackboard.

overall, the movie is one of the decent ones so far this year, which means this year's movies so far have not much quality.

i've also watched 16 Blocks, which is quite a nice watch while not exactly brilliant piece of work. Bruce Willis, Mos Def, David Morse really made this movie shine with their brilliant acting. i love the dialogues in this one. & Mos Def's character, Eddie Bunker, is really good.

also watched a chinese movie called The Promise. this one, i feel, is something Gal would love to watch. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> it is fantasy set in medieval China, with flying characters with superpowers, sacharine love story bit, flowery dialogues, & gorgeous gorgeous visuals. well admittedly, i am not into love story, much less sacharine types, but the breathtaking setting, location, colours, costumes really help make this movie very watchable.

I just lately saw the movie Serenity .

I was worried that it was going to be another screwup movie like so many that were appearing around that time, but it ended up being extreamly good. If you like Starwars or any of those other space movies/shows (minus any jedi action <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> ) this is something to see. I'm personally not a big fan of Star Trek , and I found this to be much more interesting.

Then again, a person who's watched Star Trek from the start would probably appreciate it more than me. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

And I think someone mentionned before that this movie was of the TV show Firefly . Is it the same actors, style and just as interesting? If so, I should look it up. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />

Ghost In The Shell: Standalone Complex - Solid State Society

premise: a follow-up after the second season of GITS: SAC series, this one takes place about 2 years after the Major left Section 9. more political intrigue with social issues to ponder. a thinking man's cyberpunk. this one's a movie, by the way.

verdict: what else can i say? it's pure sublime! from the visual to the story to the music to the characters. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

the DVD should be out sometime this year.
