Well, there's also a bunch of blanks down the bottom of the member list from when the forum first opened. I say just go by the number.

Couldn't Larian "Tidy up" the members list, by lets say, deleting members who haven't posted in ,say, 6 months or so? It's not as though you have to pay is it.

Last year in february, i wanted to register in "the old forum" and i remember that there was nearly 6000 members before it got closed.

If I am not mistaken, you have to activate your account after you register.
Those 241 are the ppl who didn't activate their accounts, so aren't taken into complete registration.

It is the same in all the forums.
A great number of people use to register in case they would have a help question.
If they read the posts and use the search function, most of the time they find the good answers to their problems by themselves.
There are very few members who like to answer to the questions and talk about the Larian games or the games in general.

Since i wrote my post 5 persons have registered. Now there are 2956 members.
There are a lot of anonymous persons looking at the topics.
If all these persons would register, probably in one day there would be 3000 members.
