OK, so I just bought this game (I didn't play the first one) and I've found a "Battle Field Magic Key" thingy in a room with a Holy Book ...it says I can now access the Level one Battlefields by going to my "secondary skill page" or something. My question is this: where IS my secondary skill page?? I've looked and clicked on everything in my skill window and nothing shows up about Battlefields ..only place I see anything to do with Battlefields is on my Main Menu screen, but its greyed out. Anyone help me out please?

Check this pic: secondary skill pane - battlefields. (Thanks to Kiya.)

Hope it helps, and welcome to the forums! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

Doh! Duh, thanks for the info, heh. Oh btw, I'm playing this on a Toshiba laptop (1.8ghz, 256ddr, geForce4) and I'm getting a problem with the executable crashing on me. I click on the shortcut and it cdchecks then goes black (I hear the sounds of that dog or whatever running) then it minimizes to my taskbar ...I can still hear it running though. When I click on it on my taskbar to go back to the game, it comes on for a split second and then an Error msg appears saying divine.exe or something had an error and needs to close. This has happened like 3 times. After the first two times, I uninstalled and reinstalled the whole game and this let me play again for about 3 times. Now its doing it again. Any ideas?

Sounds like you have some other software trying to run when BD starts, (as though you were in game and hit alt-tab) and it's causing an intermittent conflict.

Check your system tray (lower right corner, by the clock, in windows and before starting the game), do you have a lot of icons there? You should have no more than 2-3 while a game is running, if that many. Laptops often include extra software to drive special video drivers, mouse drivers, or other special devices for the laptop.

It can be tricky to turn those things off and then back on, but that would be my suggestion, shut off all running software in your system tray and startup group, stop your antivirus package from starting, etc.

Here is a couple of things that should help... Spybot
This searches for software (not viruses) that installed itself to your computer without you knowing. These spyware / malware packages are known to alter DLL files that games rely on, or to just cause havoc.

Assuming you are running Win XP try updating your DirectX to DirectX 9.0c After you installed it, click on start. run and type in DXDIAG.
Run all the tests, especially the Video tests and see if there are any errors.

If you are running WinXP with Serivce pack 1
Here is a patch from Microsoft that helps prevent crashes Patch

Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before starting the game?

If you are not sure that your computer is virus free (Norton/McCafee is well known for not finding a LOT of viruses) try this online scanner. Its a VERY good scanner
Trend Micro - Housecall

You can also download EndItAll2 to kill all the programs that are running in the background.

Well, first of all, I would like to thank all of you for your prompt and intelligent replies to my query. I already run Ad-Aware 6.0 Professional and it hasn't detected any spyware, my Norton Antivirus is disabled, the game itself had me install DirectX 9.0 (not 9.0c though) and the only other icons in my systray are the volume icon, my disabled Norton icon, my Power/Battery icon and a Winamp Agent icon. (Oh and a Network icon, too) I'm not sure what the problem is, or why it would fix it once to reinstall the game and not fix it this time, but its very frustrating, as I was kind of getting into the game before all this started happening. Man, somehow all this just makes me miss Baldurs Gate II, heh. So, if its not another program trying to function while I'm playing this game, could it be maybe a graphics driver? Though, I'm not sure how that could be as it fixed itself once and then happened again. Can a driver problem cause intermittent crashes? I was thinking it was an all-or-none thing. Hmm, perhaps I should have started this thread in Technical, eh? Oh, btw I, just today, installed the v1.45 patch and that didn't fix it either.

Oh! I am downloading the patch from MS that Lady Rain prescribed and will let you know what happens with that. (thanks in advance Lady Rain!)

[color:"orange"]Can a driver problem cause intermittent crashes?[/color]

Yes, though usually driver problems are more consistent. Between the drivers, DirectX, the game and Windows itself, there is plenty of opportunity for weird glitches and conflicts.

Some people with laptops have had better luck with the third party optimized Omega drivers (for ATI Radeon or Nvidia Geforce graphics chipsets).

Did you check the tests in the Display tab of dxdiag? You could try updating DirectX; it may fix some problems / conflicts, or just update things which could solve your problem.

Have you recently installed any video filters? At least the ReClock DirectShow Filter needs to be disabled to play the game videos. One person also had a problem with a video codec, but it was installed as part of a codec package, so there was no easy way to narrow down which one.

In Windows Explorer, if you browse to the '..\Beyond Divinity\Static' folder, can you view the 'intro.mpg' video?

When starting BD, as soon as you hear the intro video, try clicking the left mouse button or hitting escape to bypass it. Does that help, or just speed up the crash?

What resolution is the game set to? How about your desktop? Some people have had problems with DirectX's resolution switching, which could be avoided by having the game and desktop resolutions be the same. These cases triggered a crash before the intro video was played, though, not after.

BTW, the patch Lady_Rain described is included with SP2, if you have installed that already.

!! The MS patch Lady Rain suggested worked like a charm! (BTW Ancient Dragon, I'm running XP Home Service Pack 1 only) I want to thank you all for your kindness and Uber-assistance in helping me rectify this problem. You guys (and Ladies) rock!

<=== off to play the game again! yay!
