Any news on the release date? I still can't wait
Best answer ever!
No sorry, there is no release date yet

And welcome back Divine Avenger

And welcome back Divine Avenger
!
Thanks Joram
been a bit since last post, so any one have an update?
I still hope some new info is coming soon,
hoping it's coming very soon !
PAX East is April 6–8th. From Nov 2nd
Q&A session last year:
Q: Is there any show where people can try out the game, in the US or in Europe next year?
I think that'll probably be PAX East 2012, which happens in Boston in April of 2012.
Any word if camera's will be allowed?
Will Larian be on the RPC ?
I just did a big blog update on where we stand with Dragon Commander right now.
http://www.lar.net/2012/03/16/what’s-going-on-with-dragon-commander/
Highlights: We'll be announcing project E at E3 and Dragon Commander storm is on its way.
Cheers & have a great weekend all !
Thanks !
Many thanks for all the fantastic new info Lar.
You all at Larian Studios are doing a great job, I feel that, it vibrates through my veins !
Take your Time, that's very good advise ... soon to be wise ! *signed Zixzax
And a vey good step to give Raze some moderator rights on this lovely board !
Project E is finally going to be announced? Cool. Hopefully we get to see a trailer showing some gameplay! I wonder what features will be in the game or what it will be about.
E3 is in June ... I think visiting the RPC would create immediate attention, because RPC = "Role Play Convention"
, but on the other hand it might be too expensive ?
The RPC is 5-6 of May this year.
http://www.rpc-germany.de/
I am so looking forward to playing DC just wish it was out already XD
@Alrik: RPC is too fast for us I'm afraid - we were planning on being there, but we're just not ready yet
yay! an update thought you forgot about us larian!
The worst part is going to be the fact i'll be doing a exam when someone else in the world is playing DC
The worst part is going to be the fact i'll be doing a exam when someone else in the world is playing DC
If it's any consolation, I've been playing DC for a while now
It's a different game every day though: constantly evolving, getting better, more fun and certainly more addictive.
Awww im jealous of your janitor atm lucky bastard

Is that really so ? ? ?
Aaaahhhh ... this can't be thrue !!
Don't say DC is ... o no, do not say it's ... addictive ? Great ? Each time even better ?
Aaaarrrrrggg .... why so good, I've no time to play all great games !!
Now serieously : have fun with making and playing DC, really, have Big Fun !
And now :
Please put all the devs a big Jetpack on their head
So they can end the development of the Dragon Commander
Before they even noticed it's done already !
@Alrik: RPC is too fast for us I'm afraid - we were planning on being there, but we're just not ready yet
Ah, okay. Well, point taken.
Too many venues would also mean to spread too much money on too many events, on the other hand.
Wish i could work on DC, Be fun play a creation that you helped with once and a while that was worth something like i know DC will be. I still cant wait for this game.
I'll be pleased to see new upcoming videos of a flying dragon !
Let it be Pax East right now and we'll know ...
All the Fun is on our side ...
To be a dragon knight ...
I really can't wait for this game, I know Larian will make themselfs proud with Dragon Commander. I also know they'll make us all even more proud to be there fans. Good luck at PAX & E3 Larian, although I know you won't need it, we believe in you.
Let it be Pax East right now and we'll know ...
All the Fun is on our side ...
RPC is closer !!!
Actually, PAX East is before RPC. Since Lar said they were not going to be ready to make it to RPC, that doesn't bode well for PAX East.
Im crossing my fingers that when they said that they meant its too close to PAX that they won't be ready for ANOTHER event
The comment about RPC was in regards to Project E, so Dragon Commander may still be presented at PAX (though that wasn't mentioned in the blog post about the status of DC).
I would just like to see them have a good time and make the game that will be great, they have not diapointed me yet!

Unfortunately you re right. Sad.
DC has a new engine. I wonder if this engine will make character models seem more realistic? Divinity 2 felt a bit too cartoonish as opposed to Divine Divinity which had a realistic style to it but I guess that's artstyle and not graphical engine.
Divinity 2 cartoonish? ... I suppose maybe the imps, but otherwise, I wouldn't say cartoonish.
The weapons were a bit too big, imho.
Well the MC is a super strong dragon knight so him carrying a big ass sword made sense
however the bandits with bigger swords than everyone else is a bit odd
Well the MC is a super strong dragon knight so him carrying a big ass sword made sense
To me, it doesn't, because in REal Life you just wouldn't be able to work with such a big sword. Speaking of muscles and so.
However, since this is essentially a Fantasy Universe, anything is possible, im principle.
Edit : Is this one of the reasons why Drakensang didn't sell (apart from the non-existing THQ marketing) : Because one cannot be a "big ass" in the game ?
Aussie slang there guess my point with it didn't get across the yard
I never wish to be a "big ass" in a rpg (or other kind of game), so yeah ... probably I buy Drakensang if it goes on Xbox
... because I'm tired to upgrade my pc only for the new upcoming games.

never said you would be a big ass i said " big ass sword" which implies the sword is a big ass sword, its aussie slang "ass" being a hyperbole
For me I really don't care about it being "realistic" it's a game based in a fantasy world where you can use magic. So taking that into account why would'nt there be magic to allow you to carry a weapon that's clearly too bloody big. Me personally I find it funny, I realy don't get peoples obssetion with wanting it to be like real life. If you want it to be real life the go to one of those conventions that allow you to roleplay as a medevil knight. the hole point of fantasy is that it's nothing like real life otherwise it wouldn't be a fantasy anymore.
When you go to sleep & dream some of the things that can happen in those dreams would never happen in the real world so why expect it from a fantasy game. It really doesn't make sence to me, people going on about multiplayer in RPG's & wanting them to be more "realistic" are the reason true RPG's & fantasy game's are on the decline. It's also part of the reason Mass Effect ended up drifting away from the RPG element of the game. All because people wanted it to be more like Call of Sh**y Duty & have multiplayer. I'm realy starting to hate what the gaming industry is comming too, there are so few game's I love anymore.
Realism is nice when the mechanics are complex enough to keep things interesting 100 hours into the game. As for oversized swords, in Anime games weapons look like hollow plastic wiffle ball bats that are rectangular rather than round. My characters feel more awesome with swords like in the Witcher.

What? We haven't hardly needed to upgrade our PCs in a long time. The 360 and PS3 have kept things stagnant for a while. Still sitting on the computer I built for Oblivion, granted I have swapped out some hardware, but well worth it an not costly.

Sorry knightl, but I only was giving a reaction on what Alrik wrote down!
I had better "quote" Alrik's comment in my post so there couldn't be confusing about it
@Parmenides:
but my desktop PC is from the time BEFORE the xbox was on the market etc ... I've even no dual core prossessor ... I'm sure all new games are stuttering if I try to play them (maybe on the lowest settings it's maybe playable?) ... even Gothic II was too strong for my pc ...
There seems to be some confusion here. I meant "realistic" as in the artstyle. The character models and faces in Divinity 2 looked way too colorful and lacked much detail as well. The world itself is also quite colorful and this only changes for the dungeons. I've got nothing against colorful lush environments but when they hurt your eyes (as they do in Aleroth) it is a problem.
I hope Divinity 3 goes back to the Divine Divinity style and I certainly hope Larian aren't going to copy the new artstyle found in games like Diablo 3 and Dungeon Siege 3. Divine Divinity gave you color but it felt rather realistic and unique.
Example:
Divine Divinity:
Divinity 2:
As for big ass swords, if magic can be used to wield them, you might as well have no strength statistic. Many two handed swords can actually only be used by having the right strength statistic in Divinity 2 but I had no problems about the design of weapons and armor.
I couldn't care if the setting is a fantasy setting, gravity exists, death exists, pain exists and so do many other things from the real world, so a guy carrying a sword bigger than the world itself is kinda pushing the limits. If it doesn't exist in the lore, it doesn't exist in the game unless Larian say. So saying that no fat people exist in Divinity 2 because it's impossible to gain weight in the Divinity universe is just the imagination of the player and not true unless Larian themselves say so.
The sword goes on forever.
If we're going to have "DKS is God and so he can pick up heavy stuff bigger than castles" then we might as well take away the RPG elements.
Dragon Commander seems to be decent enough in the artstyle. There's color but it's not too lush.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsvpoESEiYoIt's easier on the eyes and everything is a lot smoother.
On another note, when I Googled "Dragon Commander Larian" this image came up:
Worth posting. I WANNA BE A DURRAGON!
So what is Dragon Commander? I'm praying for a DD-like game...!
Also, is this the Project D(or whatever it's called) that I heard awhile back?
Edit: I found the official website. Looks neat, but it's not DD, right?
;_;
Yes, Dragon Commander was originally called Project D.
It is a strategy/action/RPG game, where you play as a dragon knight battling other dragon knights to become the dragon commander. Your base ship contains NPCs you can talk to and make various decisions (the RPG elements). Setup for combat is a board game like turn based strategy section, where you distribute your troops, determine where you wish to attack, beef up defence where you might get attacked and decide which battle you will participate in yourself (the rest are handled by AI). Combat is in real time, and you can take charge as a dragon and play it like a straight action game, direct your allies as required, focus on your allies and help out where needed as a dragon, or zoom out to an overview of the battlefield and play it like an RTS game.
Project E is a traditional RPG game, which has been compared in general terms to DD. For now all we know is that it will have a top down camera view and that we will be able to defeat the main bad guy in the end. It will be officially announced at E3 in June.
PAX East is today, so eagerly awaiting awesome news.

I have a different way to see things :
- Screenshots of wow are waaay too colourful
- KOAR is alsop way too colourful
- Divinity 1 was way too dark for me
- Beyond Divinity, too
- Divinity 2 did it right
That's my personal opinion on the colours.
My dream - and here's the fanboy speaking again
- is Drakensang 2, however.
It is light, but not too colourful. Perfect, for my own sense.
As long as the gameplay is fantastic good, it's fine for me, whatever the colours are ...
... but IF I may choose I go for enough light/bright and not too dark ! Divinity II is perfect this way
DD is also very good, but maybe a little bit dark yes, like Alrik said I can understand his comment

I thought PAX was on the 6th it's tomorrow is'nt it, the countdown on the PAX website says 17h to go.

Well same here really. Gameplay and story does it for me but having an artstyle that appeals is a bonus too.

Exactly! There is how I see the things too. Divinity 2 is ideal for me.
Sometimes I have feeling that its some kind of obsession, some idea that dark game is realistic/adult/great, so the game must have dark/grey colors. While everything even slightly colorful = childish (even if KOAR is NOT on the same level as D2). It seems like very simplistic black/white obsession to me, its not dark colors what makes dark game. But maybe its just different taste.
My dream - and here's the fanboy speaking again
- is Drakensang 2, however.
Well, maybe you will be surprised one day.
But its off topic.
Well, PAX East is already two weeks past... wasn't there some grand reveal by Larian done during that event?
Last year when asked about a demo they said people would be able to check out Dragon Commander at PAX East. Earlier in this topic, though, Lar said that at least Project E wouldn't be ready for RPC (held in a couple weeks), and that info about Dragon Commander would be coming 'soon'. The
What's going on with Dragon Commander? blog post didn't mention PAX East.
Reminds me somehow of
Lucky Luke ...
I like this piece of concept art very muh : It brings the woman we already know from the videos & screenshots and her dilemma imho very intensively to an universally understandable point.
http://www.gamebanshee.com/games/dragon-commander.html?tab=imagesKudos to the graphics artist and the person who invented it (I assume both might be the same ?).
I really like this concept art.
That's a very nice piece indeed. And it helps make her seem like more of a tragic/sympathetic character rather than a bit of crude comic relief.
Via above link Alrik give us I found also this info, but is it correct ??
Publisher: TBA - *Larian Studios will be the publisher or not ?
Developer: Larian Studios
Release Date: TBA
Genre: Role-Playing, Strategy
Platforms: PlayStation 3, Windows, Xbox 360 - *also on PS3 and Xbox360 ?? correct ?!*
Theme: Fantasy, Turn-Based
Perspective: Third-Person
....
Dragon Commander has always been for PS3 and Xbox 360 too.
And Larian isn't the publisher and I don't think they've ever published a game either. They develop the games.
And Larian isn't the publisher and I don't think they've ever published a game either. They develop the games.
After the debacle with Ego Draconis, Larian has apparently decided to try and go it alone when it comes to publishing Dragon Commander.
Larian is self publishing Dragon Commander and Project E (
blog post). For the former, the announced distributors so far are CD Projekt in Poland and 1C-SoftClub in Russia.
I have not seen any official confirmation on console versions yet, but that info could be part of the details given to the press.

Interesting. Who knows, maybe there will be a quest in the game to return flesh to her bones...
Didn't you watch the first news about Dragon Commander ? It was made clear that he wants that. And in this early version of the game, she wanted to build a "community" or a "country" of people with the same problem - and researching a cre for her and for her. In exchange, if the Dragon Knight follows her wishes, she gives him undead troops ...
I can't wait for Dragon Commander
There's an example of an "Elven princess" and other Elf in the screenshots... I had expected them to be more pretty.
Looks aren't everything....
Thank you for showing some restraint with the ears of the elves, unlike Blizzard, whose elves have ears larger than their heads.
The presence of undead and robot factions is very interesting.

As mentioned here, Larian is publishing the game.
Release date is early 2013 IIRC, but I am processing the recorded info at the moment for an article. Did not get to that point yet
I seriously doubt there will be a console version.
The game is real-time not turn-based
In the strategy part the perspective is third person, in the rpg part it could be called first person.
Ave.
I tried to not sign in an just add another forum to my watch list for months but today I failed
Because of Dragon Commander and some annoying little infos shattered here and there.
1) Swen sent a tweet about IGN's listing for E3 2012:
https://twitter.com/LarAtLarian/status/207859444225294337
Dragon Commander (360, PS3, PC)
Wait... what ?
2) The same Swen ( don't know another anyway ) posted this comment on his blog a week ago :
See, that's funny. I actually found out about the NeoGAF thread because a console publisher contacted me over it, putting a link in his mail and telling me that he wanted to know about this new RPG we're making. I thought that was a rather interesting example of how the world is changing. I never realized NeoGAF has that much influence, so thx for that!
Should ever a deal materialize from the meeting now set up as a result of him querying me as a result of you posting, I owe you a dinner at the very least.
3) The news on GameBanshee and JV.com, in addition of the new website, shows significant progress on Dragon Commander. The new Engine is just ... wow.
Since I'm hoping for a 360 version of DC , this really would make my day if we had an official announcement for that... or a heartbreaking denial.
IGN's listing certainly implies there will be an Xbox version (if it needed correction you'd think Swen would have held off tweeting), even if it hasn't been officially confirmed. FWIW, in a
status update Lar did mention running Dragon Commander (then being called Project D) on an Xbox development kit.
Welcome to the forum.
No confirmation nor a denial
Dragon Commander is pretty complex game with enormous potential, seriously
The versions that have been shown to date would work well on both consoles & PC. Demos were always with a controller.
However, what we'll show at E3 is much more advanced and is very much PC centric. The reason for that will become immediately clear when you see it. It's stuff nobody's seen before & imho it should immediately propel Dragon Commander to a must-have game for people with the same gaming tastes I have
What does this mean ?
a) That we've ensured for a long time that a console version is possible, in order to keep our options open.
b) That a console version will have different combat mechanics from what we'll be showing at E3, because those mechanics we'll be showing just aren't possible without a mouse. But since we've maintained controller support for so long, it also means that we know what needs to be done to get it to play well on a console.
c) That behind the scenes there's discussions going on to make a console version possible, but since we want to ship it early in 2013, it is unlikely that the game will ship on consoles at the same time as the PC/Mac versions.
Something tells me I've added more confusion than cleared up things, so summarized:
At this point, a console version is not confirmed. If possible, we'll make one. It depends on discussion with dudes who're willing to give us all the cash required to make the console versions a reality.
The official site of DC is well done ! Very nice looking site and happy to look at new screenshots and a little bit of the story
I REALLY Hope this game is going also for a Xbox release !
Otherwise no DC to play for me, sad, but reality ... !
Thank you for showing some restraint with the ears of the elves, unlike Blizzard, whose elves have ears larger than their heads.
You forget their eyebrows !!!!!
At this point, a console version is not confirmed. If possible, we'll make one. It depends on discussion with dudes who're willing to give us all the cash required to make the console versions a reality.
Thanks for the summary!
I really hope those dudes will make the right choice and the right check. Otherwise we (consoles gamers) will have to send you our money to do it
I'm looking forward to this nobody's seen before stuff.
With DOS and DDC ( if we should spell Divinity Dragon Commander like this...) this E3 will be very busy for Larian's strike force in LA.
Welcome to the forum.
Thanks !
I might stay a while now I've registered
ok so it looks like I'm going to be trying to influance the pc gamers to buy DC so you can get enough attention & money to bring it to the xbox 360.
