I got the spider leg for him in the forest then when I run into him again in the village I tell him his wife wants him home and the screen goes to a cutscene where he walks out that never returns me to normal play mode. I've tried this several times and always have to load an old savegame. Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes several persons had the same problem.
I load a savegame several times. And finally i could solve this quest.
I think it is a problem with the game.

To get past that hanging cut scene, try leaving one character on the opposite side of the village, and approaching the imp 'hero' with a single character. Alternately, just clicking on the 'x' to exit the cut scene conversation rather than continue it may also work.

Happened twice to me so I just left the quest unfinished.

I'm 'glad' it's not just me.... Well, I eventually gave up and left it unsolved but maybe next time through I'll leave one of the characters on the other side of the village as suggested. Thanks for the help!

It does work sometimes (but in my experience not often).

Certainly (as you have to elsewhere) splitting your characters works - but this is a 'work around' rather than a solution.

BTW two clay pots from the wife is hardly recompense for solving this (however you do it).
