For the past couple years I've been slowly building a pen & paper RPG system currently based off of the Metroid game universe (read the PS before you make any comments about my choice of setting, please.)
Started out using the 2nd Edition ruleset as a base, then migrated to 3e and v3.5, but I'm slowly branching it into it's own, standalone system. The reason? D20, though a wonderful, versatile, easy to learn system, has it's flaws. Most of these flaws are simple calculation errors (maximum male human base weight 960 lbs. PHB, pg. 109, table 6-6) or vague/incomplete rule descriptions that can be fast eratta'd by e-male to Wizards (and I mean fast. Response in 2 hours for 10 rule questions one time ). But these add up to a system that, in some places, need a total revamp.
I'm now at the point in my project where I'm cutting some of the ties to D20 and I've exausted local sources for problems they've seen. Now I ask you, the board members: What are your gripes with D20?
I'm looking for ruleset gripes, not gameplay setting gripes. Post anything about D20 that you think could use a change (DMs, GMs, rules lawyers, here's your chance to shine ). If I use any of your ideas you'll receive credit when/if I ever make a public (profit, non-profit, or otherwise) release of my work.
Thanks In Advance,
Neo987
PS: Please, no posts like "Nintendo'll never give copyright permssion" or "Change the setting, Metroid suxors!" I chose this particular game universe because I wanted a futuristic setting and the Metroid games gave MANY base ideas for me to work off. Heck, the Metroid ties'll probably drop before I make ANY public release.
