I'm currently playing G2 (English).

I'm hoping Atari will pump out Night of The Raven Expansion sometime this century.

IF I ever get to try Gothig, I'll try the first one first, and then I'll take the second one. I'm not the kind of guy who tries the sequell before the original.

@Spick: you definitely should buy both parts. Gothic 1 and 2 are in my opinion the best 3D roleplaying games in history. Absolutely brilliant. Hours and hours of fun guaranteed.

From what I've heard, G2 ist more difficult than G1.

It sure is. G2 is harder.

And G1 was not that easy, either. That was a tough game.

G1 is not so hard, maybe the controls needs more time to learn.
After that, it was not really hard.

G2 is a little bit Harder, but G2 the Night of the Raven ist really hard.

It is the best first play G1 or G2, but to start with TNOTR is not so good.
TNOTR is an addon who include the wish of many Fans of the Game for a Harder Levelbalancing. And so it comes harder.

The night of the ravens is definitely too hard for average players. I have to admit that i cheated by using an altered version that gives you 20 learning points indtead of ten per level. Otherwise I can┤t imagine how to finish the addon.

Yes, I've heard that the G2-Addon was mainly made for hardcore-players - which seem to exist to a certain extend, because the devs said that they've made it mainly for the fan-base.

I remember a game solution that consisted of killing *everyone* in G1 - only for loot and experience points. Except story-relevant NPCs, of course.

One strange impression I've always got is this that it seems to me a "game for real men" or so, players who would like to play differently than becoming a strong, awfful fighter are too weak for the game. My very personal impression is, that it's "a male game", which can be seen by the way how women are treated in this game. Well, this might be dictated by the environment the player gets thrown in ( I only played G1) , but there is not even an option to play as a female character.

I'm not sure, but I think 've read somewhere a commercial ad saying that was well known at the time of the release of the Addon tht was changed to fit to the addon and that went like this (taken from my memory) : "If it's too hard, then you're too weak."

The game as it is is *very* immersive, but with a lot of combat.

The trick to play the "night of the raven" is simple.
First play G2 without the addon, then, if you know the best way to beginn G2 succesfull, with all points you can get, then you can play the addon.

And Alrik, in the night of the Raven is not Strenghst the most importend skill, dexterity is it.
With dexterity you can use Bows, Lockpick and the Rapier.
The Rapier is a powerfull weapon with 100 Damage and (i think) 8 Points to the one Handed Swordskill. And for the Rapier you need 50 dexterity.

Where a Rapier is?. In the near by Dexters Camp, where the two Trolls living.

Buy a Speedpotion, and then you can get it.

Gothic 1 and 2 are definitely less combat orientated than Divine or Beyond Divinity are. If you play it correctely. The environment is absolutley lively (especially in Gothic2) and there are lots and lots of interaction possibilities.

Gothic 1 and 2 play in a world that is very much orientated on the Middle ages up to Reneissance in Europe. There is very few room for females in both games. Piranha bytes faced harsh criticism because of how females are treated in Gothic, but in my opinion this criticism is pointless. The medieval world was a world dominated by men and why, by all means, shouldn┤t the developers be allowed to create a fantasy world dominated by males. I definitely don┤t see this as an affront towards women.

It is possible to play both gothic 1 and 2 as a brutal killer who does not live the world but fights almost all NPC┤s for Xperience points. This was not the intention of the game. However if you kill all non mainquest related NPC┤s in Gothic2 (which must be far over 200) you gain lots and lots of XP making your character even stronger. (and that is absolutely unnecessary maybe except for the addon of Gothic2- we talked about the difficulty level already)

When visiting the gothic forums you often find gamers only talking about combat. They simply do not understand the impressive work that was done towards fantasy feeling, game balancing, world creating...

@Alrik: I would strongly suggest you to buy gothic2 and play it. You should also try out the addon, but use the same cheat that I do. (I┤ll give you the link if you want). If you liked G1 you will love it┤s sequel.

I love the way the NPC AI acts in Gothic games. The AI is always alive, immersive, and whatnot. Every NPC's is under a schedule, which rules. And often when you get near certain NPC's, if they together, the game will play a sound and it'll sound like they are in the midst of a conversation.

I never took offense to it, either. But, yes -- it was a male dominated world in Gothic 1. Hell, it was a PRISON COLONY. Who was most likely then to be in Prison then? Males, I believe.

There are more women in G2, since the world is open now that the Penal Colony's barrier is gone.

@bernhard : Yes, Gothic 2 is definitively on my list, but I must be able to afford a new PC first, and I don't know when that will be.

I didn't explicitely say that it's action-oriented, but you need to fight a lot to get through G1 ...

What's absolutely positive about the game is the immersion ... I don't know much games with such a deep immersion.

G2 NotR cannot be too hard, because *I* played it, loved it and finished it! (And I'm a girl, and a coward too )

@Sveltje: Try playing it as a mage without cheating... (almost impossible in my opinion)
