I don't know MG... The first impression wasn't very good... Sounded a bit to actionrelated... And for being released in January, there was not very much info...

And the demo for this game DIDN'T come out in Sept., like it was originally planned. It got pushed back to "Who knows when."

The game was also once slated for a Oct-November 2004 release, too -- it didn't make that, obviously.

So, who knows if it'll even make the planned January 2005 release.

Not sure, yet. Looks like pretty standard 3rd person hack & slash to me. If I really want that, I'll dig out my old Deathtrap Dungeon game

I had mixed opinions about this game, until I watched the trailer, and now I'm quite sure it'll be an awesome RPG. The graphics look pretty good, and the game is written by D.W. Bradley (He worked on the wizardry series) and it has cooperative multiplayer. I honestly think you could compare that game to Gothic.

I certainly am looking forward to that game now, thanks MG

Good. I was wondering how it works. The combats in the dungeons should influence the RTS aspect on the surface. Yay for demos.

It looks really nice (though it reminds me a little of Morrowind, espesially the charact3erinteraction...). The only think I'm wondering about is whenever you will be able to wear heavier equipment in the demo...

I guess I confused this game with Dragonshard. As soon as I started, I noticed the controls are not that good. Also I rarely complain about voice acting yet it is non-existant in this game. Well, I'll try it one more time.

Erm... I've had three conversations and there were voice acting in all of them... And I don't know what's so bad about the controls... They seem just like any other game...

Okay, having played and now uninstalled Dungeon Lords, I am ready to pass my judgement.
What a load of junk!
The game is like Everquest but without other players.

First, the graphics. The graphics are awful. The terrain is basically a green "texture" (if it can be called texture) and another repeating texture of grass. The character looks like a retard and walks like one too. Walking backwards and strafing is simply ridiculously animated. If you wear a shirt, a leather armour or a chain shirt, it will look exactly the same except for different colours. When I put on a medium armour, I looked as if I was wearing a skin-tight long-sleeved shirt and not ten kilos of iron rings on me.

The game mechanics are funny. First, magic is like Contra Smartbombs. One spell will raze anything in it's path. The bow also makes you an unstoppable juggernaut: most monsters either will stand at a distance taunting you and allowing you to take aim and blow them to Dungeon Lord Hell or simply will stuck in a random boulder. When killed, the said monsters will produce a sea of golden coins and a shop-worth of equipment, weapons and spells. In fact, you'd be wondering how they can carry all THAT on them. Also, why when I open my character-screen, inventory or the help menu, everyone suddenly stop attacking me? The goblin simply lowers his weapon and grimly stares at me. The combat loses the whole point after you discover that you can resurrect your character with the "R" key. Why do I need health-potions, then? Strange, but sometimes I can see the enemy's healthbar and sometimes I can't. It appears on the bottom of the screen at random intervals and usually doesn't even mean anything. After leveling up with the first three kills, I suddenly find myself to be able to annihilate any number of creatures I meet. Bored, I decide to look for a town. I open my map... Wait, there is no map! Dungeon Lords does not have a map! I go in a random direction, then, hoping to find someone sign of some sort but nope.
After wandering for 30 minutes arround, I closed the game and uninstalled it.
Bah.

I've given it a try out, and I can't say I'm exactly enthralled.

Trap disarming/chest opening works interestingly, but it's the only really imaginative feature I've found in the game so far. The rest is pretty standard hack & slash - and not very well done, either.

For a game that looks to be almost entirely about fighting, it would have been nice to have more actual moves than left click attack; right click block.

I found dying a lot easier than DATD did, but the R key just let me get up and carry on the fight until I ran out of bad guys.

After a large fight, I ended up having to press the shift key a ton of times to pick up every single item individually too, as there seems to be no universal pickup key. This is very tedious, as there are a lot of items - many of which your character will pick up only to discard immediately as he does not like carrying duplicates. This annoys me, as it is a waste of time AND he's dropping stuff that is presumably worth money.

The graphics are OK-ish, I suppose, and I would not honestly notice them if the game play were better.

Getting hit in a fight means your character does this weird slide thing, like he's on ice in a skating rink, and if you are knocked back with a barrel or something behind you, you end up standing on top of it, which can make for some very weird fights.

Overall - I am underwhelmed. I got no real sense of story or character, just endless hacking. Including random creatures spawning from rooms you have just emptied and KNOW have nothing in them. That happened a few times.

IF I finish the demo - which is definitely an IF - I'll let you know if anything changes for the better.

My thoughts about this :

- Haven't played the demo. Don't think I will. I'm just bored by the view of H/S and nothing else.

- Your reviews are reflecting more or less the same as in the parallel german-language discussion about it.

- Some like H/S (Hack/Slay - term developed while having the term "M/S" in mind) , some don't.

- By the way, I've often found in the official german sacred forum voices like " I love masses of monsters !"

- the current fashion clearly goes towards H/S. Publishers see - that's my opinion - the megaselling [mega-silling ] of Blizzard and Sacred, and believe that this is the thing for the futture, especially considering tha these games don't need as much work as full RPGs need.

- (Therefore) We willsee much more H/S in the future, mainly bought by a younger generation.
