When i saw for the first time, and i read up that it was the company's first RPG, my first words were "Companies like blizzard is gonna be in trouble"...
I still believe that this will be true given time....
I think that 2 will be a great title, and i am hoping that it will put them on the map along with some of the big companies
I suppose all we can do is wish them all the luck and prosperity in the world, and sit back (more likely pace up and down) and wait for the good products to come our way

I say like Björk:
"I know by now that you'll arive By the time I stop whaiting I miss you"
And hopefully luck doeesn't have to be a factor...

I dont think that luck is NEEDED.... but its sure as ever a bonus....
luck = 2 hitting the shelves a month EARLY luck = VERY few bugs in the game, making it require only 1 or 2 patches, not 13 luck = Larian gets some special ideas that makes their games best sellers

Erm... Isn't that skill?
And I don't doubt it will happen, no...

Does this mean we will be able to add modifications to the game? Since the tools for Morrowind were released as well.

great news indeed. does speedtree means tree planting skills? tree management skills?
merendrious, i have Tungsten E palm meself. any RPG that u can recommend? same here, wish there's palm version of DD games. i saw what Redshift (palm game developer) did for RPGs & it's nice.
& speaking of trees, there's a palm game called Plant Tycoon. i hope Larians won't ever build tycoon or sim games. & as for RPGs, i hope there will be choice for those who may not want turn-based (sorry morbo, i hate TB), just like Fallout Tactics.
it's good news that Larians decide to use tools such as gamebryo & speedtree as these tools save them the time & effort of building a game engine from scratch & then proceed to another energy sapping effort; game content. with this news, we're assured Larians are fine-tuned to us in that their main emphasis is on the content & not eye candy.
just a personal preference; i hope they'll do away with european motifs & try asian? chinese/korean/japanese/indian/mid-east .... i can imagine a massive battle between gods as depicted in Mahabhrata.
......a gift from LaFille......

true, true. asian countries have one of the oldest civilizations, and are a rich source of material for developers daring enough to "think outside of the box".
i think bioware will hit it big w/ jade empire. that will surely be one of the biggest hits for the xbox, and i'm fervently hoping they will make a port for the pc. because it just looks so damn good. if it plays well enough, they've got another winner. they really got a good one out of china there.
here in my country, one of the biggest success has been a locally-made rpg developed by an independent developer, anito: defend a land enraged. anito in english means ancestor. it's been warmly-received by gamers and gotten good reviews from various gaming sites. it was even a finalist for best independent games awards in the u.s., i think. it's an rpg set against a historical background, the colonization of a country, and w/ some local mythological creatures to spice up the game.
it sure was a welcome sight from the usual goblins, orcs, ogres, trolls, i find in most games.

Yes ! true, true. asian countries have one of the oldest civilizations, and are a rich source of material for developers daring enough to "think outside of the box". If you want to get to know new stuff for fantasy stories, you can give into different cultures ... even ancient ones provide quite a lot of stuff ! Or the esotherical area. There's even more stuff and it's quite scary sometimes ... at least for people who cannot dive into that. (Ande these are imho mostly scientific, materialistic oriented people using their Ratio and Logic rather then anything else )

indeed, thats great news, Larian!!!
licensing technology has huge advantages:
- instead of wasting time by developing technology you can spend all time and manpower (and womenpower of course, Lynn ) into content creation. Result: faster development (or better game quality)
- licensed (proofed) technology is often not as vulnerable to bugs as selfmade technology. Result: lesser bugs or at least lesser trouble fixing bugs.
I'm looking forward to Larians further announcements
keep on rolling

And if theire are bugs you don't have to be angry with yourself. Remember the Gamebryo team is just 1 phone call away

That can also be seen as a side effect.... you need to phone someone else to fix the problem... and have no guarantee that they will be able to do it fast.... and you have no guarantee that their fixes wont affect your coding again.... resulting in different bugs again....
But Larian knows how to take care of themselves... they have weighed the pro's and cons, and i believe that they will come up (again) with a very good solid game)

I'm sure Larian did this before signing the contract
