Thanks for the info. That reminds me of a co-worker years ago who had lots of sound and performance problems in a game. He tried several different sound cards, onboard sound, and even borrowed a different motherboard to try. He had a subsequent problem with his original motherboard, and bought a cheap one to get back up fast, and the onboard sound worked fine and all his problems with the game were gone.
Of course I'm not suggesting people randomly replace hardware to see if it helps, but trying to onboard sound is a relatively easy procedure.
