Why is it that loads of people register to ask questions about DKS but very few actually stick around to chat with other Divinity Fans.

I just find it strange that noone would want to stick around the forums, what do they think that we are all going to burn them to a crisp with random Fireballs.......well ok I might but everyone else here are good people. Well except maybe Raze who you may think is an angel & a nice guy but he's still a Black Ring General & Demonic because he stole Joram's flame resistent clothes that I gave Joram so he wouldn't suffer the Wrath of my Dragon Form on it's time of the month. \:-D

ANYWAY come on people stop being antisocial not everyone here launches random Fireballs at people the only one that does that is me. Demonic will tell you it's because I'm crazy \:-D & he's right, even if it did take him forever to work it out. So don't take it personal if you see my Dragon Form heading toward you hurling fireballs at you just remember there are magical countermesures avalible lol.

I think most people are active on several forums, DA. I know I am.

It's quite rare for me to start topics on any but my own, but I'll usually contribute to interesting discussions on the other forums I frequent.

Yeah & that's fair enough but at least you socialise with people here, most people just register ask about whatever there stuck on & are never seen again.

To be honest, that was my original intention, too. Then I realised just how nice the people on here were. I was a boardie here before ever I created Chaos (My forum) and if Chaos should ever end (Which obviously I hope it won't) I intend to remain a boardie here thereafter.

Two very different types of forum (If you've ever clicked on my banner, you'd see we bear no real similarity to the Larian forum at all), but a similar atmosphere of relaxed conversation and friendly people.

I would not have registered for Larian's previous forum had I been able to find out by searching if it was normal in Divine Divinity for the healing/mana shrines to stop working after awhile in the council hall (apparently it is). I had a barrel filled with meat and so many potions saved up that I had to transfer some to a chest periodically to keep from becoming encumbered, but set up camp at the back of the council hall, and used the healing shrines (if required) when teleporting back to drop off loot, etc.

yeah but you both stuck around, you didn't just post once or twice & then bugger off to never be seen again. It's a shame really beause there are some awsome people on this forum, including Raze (even if he is a Black Ring General). ;\)

What I actually never quite understood was the fact that people from the "game/gaming forums" rarely go to here.

This is still a puzzle to me.

Maybe I should name it the "too-lazy-to-scroll-down-syndrome" ...

I think that's the case too; that's why I put my general chat at the top of the board in my forums over at Arokh's Lair. Now that is a dead forum! I keep it as it's the only original Drakan fansite left & it's the only english blade of darkness forum as well. It's dated now but I can't be bothered to update it.

As for me, I come here every day just lurking but I don't always post. I tend to read forums for several weeks before registering to get a 'feel' of the community; If satisfied I register and take part. Otherwise I'm the type of person who posts a question or two then does not visit again for ages if at all. I don't have the time I used to have for surfing the 'net, posting on forums and playing games due to long working hours etc. By the time I get home from work (I work 6 days) and have made / eaten my tea its around 8:30pm.

Edit: plus I get woken up a lot by my neigbour's dog whicn has just started yapping. Once it starts barking it just does not shut up for hours on end. I want to go round and kick it's head in right now. I'm tired and have had a crap day at work and my headache will now get worse.

At least reading these forums relieves some stress. \:\)

Yeah yapping dogs can be annoying & I can definatley understand wanting to boot the buggers when you have a headache \:-D

I wish more people would learn how to scroll down the forum though I mean what's the point of registering if your not going to make an effort to get too know the people on the forums.

Registering to post once or twice & then disappear into a black hole never too be seen agian just makes me wonder why did you waste your time registering.

Drakan ? Yes, I do remember this game. I found it a mix of very good and very tedious in certain levels. I almost too often lost the overview while flying the dragon.

And I was actually *very* angry the sequel was for console ONLY !

Apart from the tediousness, I have the game in fond memories.

Not the only one. I bought a PS2 just to play the sequel plus there was other console only games I wanted to try. I now have a PS3 and Drakan does not work on it but however it works fine bar a crash or two on the PC emulator PCSX2.

General chat's at the top of my forum, too. You guys are right - it's the best place for it.

Not that it isn't worth scrolling down, be it here or there, I hasten to add! \:D

The reason is quite simple . Only the very first generation of the PS3 had an - so-called - "emulation chip" (or at least I know it as such) on board, so that the PS3 is able to play older PS2 games.

They soon omitted that "chip" for costs.

Now, I heared there should be some sort of "software emulation" on newer PS§s, but that appears to work only for selected titles, I've read once.

From the Wikipedia article (slightly hidden within a wall of text) :

 Quote:
Like the South Korean and European models, the North American 80 GB (2007) model also excludes the PlayStation 2 "Emotion Engine" CPU chip.[71] However, it retains the "Graphics Synthesizer" GPU.[76] Due to the elimination of the "Emotion Engine", the level of compatibility was reduced.[71] The 40 GB, 80 GB (2008) and 160 GB models have two USB ports instead of the four USB ports on other models and do not include multiple flash card readers, SACD support,[77] or any backward compatibility with PlayStation 2 games.[71][78] This was due to the removal of "Graphics Synthesizer" GPU, which stripped the units of all PlayStation 2 based hardware.

yeah it's because these day's most of the popular PS titles are availible to buy AGAIN on the playstation store. Like Final Fantasy VII VIII & IX, Crash Team Racing & even Grandia are all availible to buy off the store. That's proberbly why they took out the backwards compatable tech from the PS3.

Yes, the wikipedia article is correct.
The original USA and Jap versions of the PS3 had the acutal EE + GS chip on board so they could play approx 85% of PS2 games. The first UK versions (don't know about rest of europe) omited this chip and instead emulated the PS2 in software which brought the number of PS2 games playable on the PS3 to around 50%. After that Sony dropped the software emulation and all newer PS3's cannot play PS2 games at all. As for future PS3's being able to play PS2 games I don't know.

I have an original PS3 (I pre ordered it) and it does play Drakan but there are frequent system lock ups and the levers / door switches etc don't work rendering the game unplayable. I know someone in the USA and their original PS3 plays the game fine but the original USA version actually has the PS2 chip in it. UK version does not.

Divine Avenger - all PS3's can play original PS (PS1) games as the original PS1 CPU is used in the PS3 as the sound processor. When running a PS title the entire game runs on the sound CPU.

The UK was short of PS3's as a cargo ship containing several thousand of them from the factory in Japan sunk in the English channel. That was a long time ago, Ill see if I cam find the news article. If it's true.
