I would check game reviews to see if they are something you like but for a mere £10 it's a bargain. The first three games are what I call large 'hardcore' RPG's and the fourth (Arcania) is dumbed down somewhat with a linear progression through the game.

yea i tried the demo for Arcania and i had fun but it's not really very exciting, not a particulary good plotline imo from what i gathered from the demo

and tbh i don't read reviews because most of the time they are written but either fanboys of the game, people who don't have any experiences of the genre, or butthurt haters.

the reason im asking is because im a bit tight on money atm and im not entirely convinced by the demo, and as far as im aware there is no demos for the other gothic games.

I tried demos of all Gothic games. I got mine free with game magazine DVD's but I'm sure you can get them online. I just did a quick google search and it seems they are available from several sources including fileplanet.

I played Arcania but didn't bother with the others. It was OK, lacking in some areas but enjoyable nevertheless. I bought it at a reduced price anyway. I don't get as much time as I'd like to for playing games so I skipped the first three and bought other games instead.

My biggest gripe with Arcania is that it simply felt very unfinished. I gave up playing it pretty much at the same point the demo ended, it didn't seem very interesting.

Of the others, I've only played Gothic 3: not perfect, but I got a lot of enjoyment out of it, and in terms of its look and feel, not entirely dissimilar to Ego Draconis given that it's another Gamebryo-based game. The only real weirdie is the almost complete absence of women. It apparently had some real problems with bugs when it was initially released (I've seen claims that both the bugs and lack of women were caused by a rushed release schedule) but they were fixed soon afterwards and my own experience is that when patched it's very stable.

im debating if i should get the bundle or just Arcania, you see i have bought bundles before of game series but i never played/didn't like the OG games, like hitman, i liked bloodmoney, and i tired the OG one and it was not up to standard imo, i haven't even installed the 2nd game, and with red faction, i played the OG, loved it, red faction 2 i gave up in the tutorial because i had no idea what was going on, plus the game gave me an OP gun right at the start, and gurilla i haven't even tried because i have to sign up to windows live to even save or load games, even in single player, so are the other gothic games worth it or should i just get Arcania?

IMHO Gothic 3 is an awful lot better than Arcania; I can't speak for the earlier games in the series, I've been put off trying them due to reports of their controls being very awkward, though people who got into them speak highly of them (the same is true of e.g. Daggerfall which has its adherents but its graphics made my head hurt.) But if there's one thing that fans of Gothic seem unanimous about, it's that Arcania is the weakest of the series. If you choose just one, don't choose that. Incidentally, Risen is generally considered the "spiritual successor" to Gothic 1-3: although it's not the same game world, it's the same team who worked on those games and it has a similar "vibe" to Gothic 3.

I've palyed Arcania (Xbox) for a sort time period and I can only say :
don't play it, it has NO charm, no soul ! The quests are blablabla and the dialogs are blablabla too :
sort repeat : no Soul .. sad & bad !

Better spare your money, collect more money each month so you've enough at the time Larian Studios is bringing a new masterpiece on the market ! Okay, to be honest, I'm a big fanboy, but that's simple because their games ARE so good and you feel it in your bones that they've a Soul, that they are maked with passion & love and at the same time they didn't take it too seriously, if you know what I mean .
up Great ! Fantastic ! Awesome ! ... up

I've also not the money to buy many games. In the past I started buying & playing puzzle games too many, that I switched to RPG genre because of their RE-play-value and still I do, replay & replay ... Divnity games (DD & DKS in particular wink ! ). smile
And so time goes by while replaying rpg's and my coin purse don't get empty on buying new games biggrin

Just a small suggestion wink

yes well im still in my 2nd playthrough in DKS and im still not bored of it (you might of already know that, as im doing my lets play) and i plan on going through a 3rd time choosing the options i didn't before, and maybe even a 4th playthrough after that, and if i get bored, im sure there is some mods lying around on the Internets for DKS.

but tbh im always looking for new experiences, as much as i like re-playing games i also like to have something fresh, as in DKS when i played through it first time i spent 12+ hours on it every day because it was, and still is an amazing game, but now im going through it a 2nd time its not as exciting as i already know about all the secrets and done almost all the side quests.

On your head be it! I still think you'd probably enjoy Gothic 3 a lot more...

It's always subjective, but as I said, I really preferred Gothic 3, and found it quite reminiscent of ED/DKS (or vice versa); the only complaint I had was that its attempts to avoid "button mashing" didn't quite work out and actually tended to encourage that sort of thing...

Depends what you like I suppose. Arcania isn't perfect, not by a long shot and there were a couple of moments where I was bored with it but I stuck it out till the end. I agree, it did feel unfinished but there is a add on for it which extends the story a bit. I think the developers were under pressure to get it out of the door thus explaining the unfinished and 'botched' areas.

I wasn't too fussed as I didn't pay a lot for it.

Gothic 3 seemed the best (of what I saw of it) but the bugs and crashes made it unplayable for me.

It was infamous for its bugs when it was first released, but the patch they released a few months later left it really pretty stable: it was very solid compared to, say, Oblivion, though admittedly that's not saying much. There's also a community patch to fix various odds and ends that the official patch missed, though I don't have a link handy as it's been five years now (how'd that happen...?)
