so, after taking a small break from the game i decided to go play it again and continue my let's play series, but, there's a problem, the game will no longer launch, both DKS or the developers cut won't lauch (this is steam version) i click play, it tells me im playing it on steam, then after a few seconds steam tells me im no longer playing the game and the game doesn't load.

im not sure if this is a steam issue or an issue with the game, all my other games launch as they should. any ideas?

Did you try verifying local files?

Try starting the game directly, rather than through Steam (exit the Steam client first, to isolate whether the problem is with the game or Steam). There are 2 executables in the Divinity 2 install folder, Divinity2.exe (normal DKS) and Divinity2-debug.exe (with the Developer Mode).

Have you installed / changed / updated anything recently?

Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before trying to start the game?

i verified the game cache the second i realized it wasn't working, it downloaded a 800kb file but still didn't work, verified again and it said downloading, but only downloaded a 0kb file?

this has happened before, i assume the 800kb that was missing was maybe the annihilator leggings i had been missing the past 2 paythroughs

when i click on the .exe it comes up with an error message

"The program con't start because PhysXloader.dll is missing from your computer. Try re-installing the program to fix this problem"

weird, i could of sworn i had PhysX... otherwise how could i of played the game before?

i had the exact same error message with Metro 2033 aswell, should i do as it says and re-install it? really dont want to lose my save games, maybe i could try re-installing metro 2033 and it would add PhyX loader back in and then DKS would work?

I'd try re-installing Physx. BTW if you do re-install the game you don't have to loose your save games, just make a copy of your game saves folder to some place else as a backup. Copy them back afterwards and you should be able to load them.

You can download the latest version of PhysX from nVidia, so shouldn't need to re-install either game.

PC error - "PhysXLoader.dll Missing from computer"

In XP the saves are in the folder

C:\Documents and Settings\ %username% \Local Settings\Application Data\Divinity 2\Savegames

or in Vista / Win 7

C:\Users\ %username% \AppData\Local\Divinity 2\Savegames

You may need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders (XP, Vista, Win 7).

I've been having this very issue myself (albeit, I've yet to try the dev's cut), and yet, after getting the 9.12.1013 version (AND even the 9.13 version) of that very DLL file, it still doesn't work! I know, it might seem that's all I bothered to get, but I've been trying to figure out what the issue is, because after verifying the files, removing and re-installing PhysX, and even searching for the frakking DLL, I don't understand what the issue is! Is there something else I've missed? What's odd is that this game worked perfectly prior to my upgrading to Windows 8, and following, I want to say I installed it once after and had it work, but I can't be for certain. It might have been on my desktop (which is also Windows 8), and not my laptop. Nevertheless, the Kernals of the two OSs shouldn't be that different, right? So, in theory, it should work...Right?

UPDATE:
After looking manually and automatically, the system is showing NO sign of that DLL. Whatever Venix had installed might not even have BEEN that PhysXLoader.dll file that he was missing, and I've INSTALLED PhysX MULTIPLE times within the past hour, hoping something would happen! It doesn't exist, even after the 2012 and 2013 builds of PhysX installs! Is there an explanation of this, or is there a fix even?

Do you have Windows Explorer set to show hidden and system files? In a search you will also probably have to go into the advanced options to check of searching in hidden and system files.

Did you install PhysX as administrator?

Advanced Options on the Windows Explorer settings are set to just that: Show hidden items and also search for system items, both set to on. Still nothing.

As for installing as admin, there's no such option: I AM the admin on the system.

UPDATE: Correction, just found it manually in the PhysX Common folder. Odd thing is, the game refuses to see it, yet I can confirm METRO 2033 (which I also know requires that exact DLL) works and runs just fine. What gives?

UPDATE Pt2:
I have no clue what I just did that changed it, but I just started the game as admin after closing out of Steam...And it worked? I've got no clue what made starting it that way any different...

Glad you got it working.

Can you start the game through Steam now, as well?

Unfortunately no. The Steam client doesn't launch the game at all; I have to manually start from the EXE file in the folder. Thankfully, doing so, Steam still picks it up and the overlay activates, but I still find it annoying to do.

You can create a shortcut to the exe, rather than using the Steam shortcut, or even add a shortcut to the Steam client (as silly as it is to have to do so for a game that is already directly in your library).
