Considering the newly announced undead race and how there is an undead "status" for every other race in the game I do wonder: Can a GM switch this status on characters on the fly and have for example recently fallen players have an adventure in the underworld, be raised by an evil lich lord or later redeem themselves and come back into life?

Even further: Are other players always aware of and can be 100% sure about the other players' races or is this a hidden stat and a player can disguise his undead identity with the "face mask" methods etc. from the other players?

On a side note: Can players then attack their fellow party member if they find out about this true nature and choose to dispose of such an evil being?

All in all, I think this would open up a lot of really fun and interesting plot and party mechanics for the GM mode.

If not present in the release version, could something like this be modded?

I'd say it will be extremely hard for the other PLAYERS not to know or notice.
Wearing the mask will prevent wearing helmets, group heals might do damage, the healing from poison etc.
On the other hand it should be doable to hide one's true identity from the other CHARACTERS.

What players/characters can or can't do is completely up to the GM.

Being able to set "undead"as a (permanent) status on characters would be an awesome tool to have.

Well, the thing is, "Undead" is not a status but a race by itself.
It's not something that is applied to someone like sleep or burning.

I'm sure someone will create a spell or ability to change race / gender that the GM will be able to use since it's not an out of the box ability.

I was afraid of that. Would have been cool though.

It's probably feasible, I mean, since you can transform someone into a chicken, which is another completely different mesh. There is probably a way to do this.

It looked to me like Undead was a tag, which is something that can be manipulated via script at will - hence the shapeshifter mask.

(it's also obviously an appearance too, but I don't see why that couldn't be changed as well)
