Doh I am feeling all warm and fuzzy now <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> not the thing to be when one is a knight <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Oh and PS; it is just in case othere less fortunate ppl read the before mentioned articles, ergo the rather heavy handed approach in regards to un-protected PC's <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, WHat she said. Unless you have major Hardware defenses, EX: Partiot missile systems, m1 Tank Patrols, ect you NEED software protection!

(Does this mean you forgive me for our past squabbles?)

Virus writers have released a piece of malware that speaks to the victims of the computer. The worm is called Amus and uses the Windows Speech Engine (which is built in with Microsoft Windows XP) to deliver a message to the user.

The message reads: \"How are you. I am back. My name is mister hamsi. I am seeing you. Haaaaaaaa. You must come to turkiye. I am cleaning your computer. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1. 0. Gule. Gule.\" (\"Gule. Gule\" is Turkish for \"Bye. Bye\". \"Hamsi\" is a small fish, like an anchovy, found in the Black Sea).

The worm has not become very widespread and most Anti-virus software companies have not labelled it a very highrisk piece of coding. Amus is spread by email, as an attachment using subject\'s such as \"Listen and Smile.\" It seems only Windows users are affected by it (whats new?) When the attachment has been opened the worm is spread to other e-mails, and the sound file is triggered. The worm also changes IE settings, so users see a message in Turkish (complaining about the quality of local telecoms) instead of visiting their usual start page.

The writer of the Sasser worm has a new Job. He's working for a computer company (security things) now.

Apparently other virus writers new that, because I've read a report about a virus or worm containing text that the writer seeks a job in the PC industry , too ...

Hello.

Today I received a phishing e-mail which contains the following text :

Quote
An inability to accurately verify your selected option
of payment due to an internal error within our processors.

That's hilarious, because "within out processors" would mean that AMD or Intel had made a *great* mistake ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />

Nevertheless it's serious. I'll report that to ebay.

"Net worm using Google to spread
By Robert Lemos CNET News.com December 21, 2004, 11:01 AM PT

A Web worm that identifies potential victims by searching Google is spreading among online bulletin boards using a vulnerable version of the program phpBB, security professionals said on Tuesday.

The Santy worm uses a flaw in the widely used community forum software known as the PHP Bulletin Board (phpBB) to spread, according to updated analyses. The worm searches Google for sites using a vulnerable version of the software, antivirus firm Kaspersky said in a statement.

Almost 40,000 sites may have already been infected. Using Microsoft's Search engine to scan for the phrase "NeverEverNoSanity"--part of the defacement text that the Santy worm uses to replace files on infected Web sites--returns nearly 39,000 hits."
