Do you guys think this game will have Hirelings?

You mean like NPCs who demand a wage?
That's an interesting thought.

I'm kind of used to having NPCs work for the Player character for free, or for solving a quest or two.
But I guess if they are super good characters they could ask for more money.

Back in my old PnP days we always had hirelings once we got to high levels (like 6th or 7th, LOL). They would guard the base camp, tend the horses, etc.

You know, I'd really like to see horses in this game.

I agree, @BillyYank, combat mounted feats FTW. Or even for travelling.

I kinda liked the POE1 hirelings you can hire to guard the stronghold, or the possibility to find different crew members (hiring them, rescuing them, helping them) to your ship in POE2. Even the different advisors in Pathfinder game, depending on your RP choices. They add flavor to the game and the possibility of converse with more and different characters.

It would be nice if they added some feature like that.

If the OP meant the silent mercenaries that you can create from scratch and use it in your party instead of your companions, I am sure that they will include that in the game. I do not really use that feature, but it is in so high demand in CRPG games (like having a brothel for whatever reason) that it is a no-brainer to include that.

That's a great idea.

You could also expand the concept to make it feel rewarding to have such hirelings.
-Pay to have someone guard for example the player stronghold
-Once in a while you return to the place, and you actually see a bandit or a wolf battle with the hirelings
-You can actually engage in the battle with them
-Or sometimes it could just be the dead corpse of an enemy which the hireling already defeated, so you can loot it without much trouble
-And sometimes no enemies appear at all, to keep it realistic

Effectively you get some bandit gear or wolf pelt as reward for hiring them, if you're lucky.
So there is a feeling of reward for spending that money.
It gives the hirelings a purpose.
It makes the setting feel alive.

i have my doubts about it.
The closest thing 5E has gotten tot he old school of hex crawl, dungeon exploring campsite making style of play was tomb of anhiliation which had a hex crawl bit, ithink they did some unearthed arcana about hirelings, but nothing id expect them to port onto a linear computer RPG

The PHB has some stuff on hiring people.

More people to pay and share the loot with? No! mad

I hope they don't turn BG3 into a management sim where I have to spend more time managing stuff than going out and having grand adventures.

Yeah, you get three for free if you take the Noble - Knight background, a squire and two retainers.

If you played Advventurer's league you could hire a mercenary to join you on a quest as well.
