Er.,.... so I've just said to the alchemist in act 2, take me back to the village. Which sets off an unstoppable chain of events leading to the entire village being killed. Which means all my unfinished quests will remain unfinished. I don't like preaching game design, but COME ON. give the player some warning that doing a simple action will actually have massive consequences resulting in the ending of all his quests. I almost want to scrap the game and start over, with this knowledge. It's like all the instant death traps lying around. This is just bad game design.

This happened to me as well. Not sure if is a planned event or if I just did too many things in Act 2 out of order. I think there were only 2 quests which I had the items for and could not complete so I am not too concerned.

The thing is you can go east and find a cure for the illness as the first quest you undertake. There is no warning that this is the event that will lead to the end of act 2. I had done about 50% of the quests in act 2, and the illness one was just one on my list of things to do, then suddenly it's all over. This is really bad design, and very frustrating since there was a lot unexplored in the act for me.

Just about to do that part, thanks for the warning
Of course, if you have a save game, you don't have to restart...

Hmmm, If this is true, than could you tell me what I should NOT do in act2. I would really want to avoid this kind of things... I would be very bothered with unfinished quests.

Act 2 => solve all quests before you give the alchemist the 3 cure ingredients (game linearity) Act 3 => don't enter the catacombs before you solved all quests (you can get the Staff of Power => then the Bishop wants you to unlock the seal. But as soon as you enter, game gets linear again).
Act 4 => Hmm, well you ascend to the next lvl as soon as you have done the main quests - but you can return to each lvl.

Since the linear section is fairly long, I had used up all my quicksaves and can't go back to before it started. I'm probably going to start a new game, but it's really really annoying and at the moment I can't be bothered to play the game again.

Act 4 => Hmm, well you ascend to the next lvl as soon as you have done the main quests - but you can return to each lvl. You can?! I'm in act 2 and can't get back to act one the way I came. I used the explosives on the lava to get out.... is this why I can't get back to act 1?

EKB, I meant the levels within Act 4 - not back to Act 1.

Thanks everyone. I guess this means I have to start the game over once I download the new patch to get to the Act I battlefields.

MrT, suggestion on saving in RPGs. I use separate saves for major activities (Fight, Door, stairs, trade, LvlUp, etc). Then I use the quicksaves for the segments in between these events.
Once I'm at the end of an "Act" (in any game), I always KEEP a saved game close to the end of that Act. That way, if I later find out I missed a major event, I can go back (if it's really worth it).
Hope this helps for in future. Looks like you're hosed in this instance. That's too bad and I feel your pain, man.

If you need to be told when something small is going to have a big impact on something... well... you're going to hate life
Seriously, though, you need to expect anything. Take it from someone that plays D&D with 3 different DMs.
