While playing or attempting to play would be a better discription of my troubles
with the Beyond Divinity demo. I get a DDHELP error message or this program performed an illegal operation.

After some experimentation it appears that the demo is sensitive to fast cpu's
or high end systems.

My system is a AMD Athlon XP 2200+ (1.8Ghz)
ASUS A7N266_c main board w/ 512 MB pc 2100 ram (dual channel,64 bit)
Windows ME, Dx9.0b
GeForce 4ti 4400, SBAudigy 1
Drivers are Nvidia's Win9x_2.41 International_WHQL certified.

I can play the demo on my old P3-750 Win98se, 256 pc100 ram
SBLive gamer, Dx9.0b, GeForce 3 64 mb ddram system without any crash's

I wonder if the demo or the game (will) support(s) AMD processors and main boards?

What are the "recommended" Nvidia graphics driver version? For which O.S.?

The most current version 50.04(?) causes more crashes than the WHQL version did.

This may be your problem: Windows ME

I've heard this is the worst OS for games.

Not true. I am playing the demo with a rig set up as follows
 • 1.1 gig Celeron
 • 512 mb pc 100
 • Ati 7500
 • windows Me
 • Maxi Sound Muse
 • dx 9.0b

I am getting no problems at all.

I ran my demo on my Athlon Thunderbird (probably first breed), 800 Mhz, over 300 MB RAM, GeForce 2 GTS (Elsa Gladiac 32) Win98SE and a the newest NVidia driver, and of course Directx 90b.

No problems.

By the way, I had turned everything off in my NVidia driver settings. Maybe you can try this ?

And I ran the demo with my Athlon 700, 192Mb of RAM and a Voodoo 3000 16Mb video card! No problems at all. It was a really nice surprise actually! Never thought I'd be able to run in my PC! I think it's the only recent game that runs in it.

the demo runs fine on Win ME in my systems (both home & at work) so don't impale that crappy OS so soon.

stormblade, try update your graphic card drivers to 53.xx which now nvidia called forceware. http://www.nvidia.com

check if u have any programs running in the background or on the taskbar. terminate them before running the game. & it might help to update the Audigy drivers.

come back here & let us know on your status, ok?

On all the above issue's.

1. Nvidia's 53.04 crash the demo quicker than you can blink an eye.

2. The A7N266-C is a nForce_1 chipset (415), not the nForce_2.

3. Yes I am using the latest and last official update for that chipset, and it is the Win9x_2.41_international WHQL certified nForce_1 drivers. These have proven to be the most stable for me. The demo only crash's after 10 blinks.

4. WindowsME is not as bad as some make it out to be. Certainly more "user friendly" than "Widows eXtra Painfull"

5. Would tech support like a copy of my DxDiag.txt file? Tell me who I send it to please?

I'm getting the same problem with CTD and Error with DDHELP. Any updated info on this? It generally happens after initial character creation.

Windows ME
AMD Athlon 1.2ghz
512mb RAM
nVidia GeForce4 4600ti

Thx

Famous AMD + Nvidia combination, and maybe a Via chipset?

Try this:
- uninstall all nvidia drivers and use a standard SVGA windows driver.
- Use a Nvidia driver clean-up utility (see at Guru3d site)
- Install driver 44.03: this one is ok for directX 9 but is much more stable than later drivers, in such a hardware config.

I made many tests, and it was the best version for me.

Good luck,
Philippe

Demo generally worked fine on my Windows ME system: Intel 1 GHz, 512 Mb memory, GeForce 2 MX, DirectX 9b, SoundBlaster Value. Only strange behaviour that I noted was a sound reverb effect that corresponded to a temporary stop or hesitation in character movement. Have an idea that, although SoundBlaster Drivers are current, the "value" in SoundBlaster Value may not be too great.
