I'm downloading the demo using my dinosaur 56k modem. This has taken me 2 days so far (still not done yet), and I have lost the connection a couple of times - pausing the download. My question is when this is finally downloaded, do you think that the interruptions during download will affect the program?

No, but if you download without a tool with a "resume download" feature, you will have to restart the download from scratch every time it is interrupted.

It really depends, most of the time it should be alright, but for future occasions try a down load manager like Get Right at least that way you can be reasonably sure the download will work.

I D/L over 3-4 nights on a 56K connection and finished it in 1 night

Thanks for the tips! My download does have a resume feature (I think it would be impossible to download this w/out one).

@ ekb

As you live in New York, you could easyly find a place in the city where you can use computers with dsl connection.
In france, we call these places "Cyber cafés".
There, you can download things like the demo.
Then you copy the demo on a CD Rom or on a USB key.
Back home, you just have to install the demo on your own computer.
It is not really expensive, you win a lot of time and the most important, you do not risk to have a nervous breakdown !

Here in Germanmny DSL isn't available everywhere; especially rural areas suffer from this. The almost-monopolist Telekom even managed to exclude some streets within towns from DSL access - no-one knows the reason.

If my rudimentary tech knowledge is correct => deals with the fact that some phone cables are copper others glasfibre - and something about the connection point (?) being more than 4.5 km away from your phone, decreases downstream speed (A-DSL).
Telekom is a private company now, but its history was not, so it still has a monopol, cause they laid these cable systems. Hope, the technie Germans can explain this better than I can. Some areas have phone nets (cables systems) older than 20 yrs.

They are pretty unfriendly when it comes to concurrence - I would love to kick them and change to another DSL provider - I favour Arcor, but their tech is incompatible to Telekom - has something to do with the cable system in my town.

Maybe the Telekom can be called the Bill Gates of the phone world in Germany

Yes, Kiya is right. I don't know the exact details, but as far as I can see it Kiya is right.

56k modem is the reason why I did not download the demo. Barta had a brilliant idea though. Here in Greece they called Internet Cafe and one hour navigation costs only 1 €.

One EUR? That is cheap, indeed!

A while ago I used a 56K modem. A nightmare, 4KB/sec max, disconnected often, impossible to play on internet in correct conditions.

I switched to ADSL (In Belgium, it gives you up to 3Mbps!), and for more or less the same price than my previous phone bill, perfect connection!

If you can, switch to ADSL or cable, you won't regret it.
