a lot already know this...
but if you're just after gold and you don't wish to use raze's excellent walkthrough on hexedit (or are just somewhat fearful), the pickpocket skill is for you. 2 points seems to be plenty.
in the BFs there are 5 merchants for you to plunder. look for splitting arrows. i got 4,200 from one merchant! they are worth a ton of gold.
also, a few points in conversion (i think 4 points was a 10/1 ratio) makes 50,000 normal arrows (easy to find)into 5,000 splitters. about 600,000 gold. you then just sell your conversion skill (about 6-10,000 gold) and put the points where you want them.
simple. 10,000 gold and two skill points in pickpocket produce over a million gold. good trade-off.
i have just started act II, so i know you can also find some awesome arrows that have extreme value.
here i have 197 special poisons and 18,000 splitters. lottsa gold yes, those two items are 3 million 200 thousand gold.
could you even spend this much???? and i have almost 4 acts to go! weeee.
anyway, if you're just looking for gold and hexedit scares you, try this out.

The later in the game you get the more expensive the skills are to buy. I was paying 10 to 15000 for level 10 spells from the BF merchants, and after you win the game and go into the battle fields from the main menu skills are going to cost 25,000 each.

Also the merchants will never have enough gold to buy your stuff. The most I have seen from a merchant is 12,000 in the after chapter 4 battle fields.

Couldn't even buy my Golden kitchen knife of slaughter! (15,800)

Stealing charms is a good way to get cash fast. Though after act 2, just stealing all the merchant's money, leaving the battlefields, returning and doing it all again tends to get you quite rich as well.

guys...
don't forget that you can seperate each of the arrows. thus, EACH special poison arrow sells for 5,500 gold (x197). there is no need what-so-ever to try and sell ALL items at once.
additionally, i have at least 2 million gold worth of other arrows, just under 400,000 gold and another 400,000 to 1 million stuffed in barrels.
and i've also bought/sold skills at least 10 times.
my guess is that i'll continue to find more and better arrows and other stuff too as i'm just now into act II.
gold is the LEAST problem i'd assume.

Lego you might want to take a closer look at those poison arrows of yours.
they are about 100x worth more then the usual poison arrow.

I think the question Velt implied there is: Why are your poison arrows 100 x more expensive than ours?

I've Just started playing Beyond Divinity today and i'm having the same problem i had in Divine Divinity. The merchants never have enough gold to buy my stuff off me. I recently started again in divine divinity, and i already have about 20,000 weight of stuff that i've just had to dump in a barrel because i can't sell it. If anyone can tell me a way of selling this stuff (both in Beyond and Divine) i'd appreciate it. I've got a load of stuff that i don't use and can't sell thats just taking up my weight allowance. So i then dump it and get more stuff which i can't sell and then dump that in the same barrel etc. Help would be appreciated, especially in Divine Divinity. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to reply to this. I want to sell this stuff rather than waste it.

BD - jump to the battlefields to sell stuff.

DD - visit one merchant (both smiths tend to have a lot of gold), then another, and if you go though half a dozen or more merchants, by the time you get back to the first their inventory should be reset.

Thanks I'll try that. It'll take a while though, I'll need to make about 15-20 trips to get rid of all the stuff in the chest. At least by the end i'll have a hell of a lot of money.

Although with Beyond Divinity the problem I'm having is that none of the merchants has any gold, a grand total of 18gold between all of them in the battlefield. I've just downloaded patch 1.44 so I'll see if that makes any difference if not I'll be coming back to this thread for more suggestions.

ahhhh. my apologies word and velt.
i've just returned from being out of town for the last 3 days and left the post without realizing i'd neglected to include the arrow-specific pic.
here it is. sorry if it caused any confusion.
expensive poison arrows

these arrows are terrific. i don't use them however 'cause i'm spoiled with splitters!
one nice 'trick' with these is that you can seperate them (as with all arrows) - thus i give 10 to my DK (who doesn't even use a bow!!!) and he carries them in an arrow slot - this endows him with the added +2 to regeneration and the +200 to stamina.
gods i love bows!

don't get too hung up on gold or pickpocketing. choose wisely and you'll be set with just a few instances of pilfering.
ultimately, gold has minimal value - as there's plenty of it and few real uses of it.
the poison arrows were not stolen, btw. they were a gift from a chest.

yes i remember sauron.
as i first entered act II i talked with the chieftan, my next move was to go to the battlefield and deposit loot...but i never made it.
instead i was teleported to the abbey and upon completion was teleported back to the imp village where i was then confronted by the imp-in-hole quest.
it was in this hole that i found the arrows (remember the large number of chests?).
it was a random item however.
