Having suddenly found myself at the door of Act 4, with a number of quests not completed and no apparent way back, I had to restart from about a third into Act 3 again (sob ... all those lovely points and skills lost).

I can see now that I could have been searching for keys that don't exist ... I couldn't get in to S's tower before because I couldn't find the key (killed the guard ...dumb thing to do maybe). Like you have to have the quest given to you first... then get invited in...

Well, I think I know where the lost Monks are, in a ruin behind a locked door. Methinks I have already killed the doorkeeper, so I guess there is no key to that door, and the quest is blown? I don't think it matters, since I was able to get through to the end last time without completing quite a few of the quests.

I've just sorted out the seeing eye stone this time round too ... how obscure can it get? I thought you had to visit all the places in turn (how dumb can you get?).

Believe me, refighting old battles is no joke...

Serrick => reading the billboard in the Temple, until his message comes => and then talking to the guard would have given you free eintry.

Monks => do you have the quest from the billboard? Killed the demon in there? (South room) => he should have dropped a key, please search this room with ALT.

so, you solved the Seeing Stone?

Yes - I solved the seeing stone more by luck than anything. I couldn't understand why I had the mirror - picked up from someone's grave, I believe - the message on the tombstone may have been relevant, on reflection (oh, sorry about that 'pun'). I tried in one of my desperate moments dropping the mirror at the crystal in the forest, and checking it out at the seeing stone - I didn't spot anything had changed. But when I checked out with the re-quester, it seems I had solved it. (Next time I looked at the seeing eye, it didn't work, so I guessI had solved it. Hmmm).

I shall have another look for that key in the Ruins - I think I had alread done the ALT test - my finger is almost permanently on that key.

I also think I have mucked up the crystal man quest ... I had completed the four altars thing round the big crystal before seeing him. The Black Imp said it is a crystal in the crystal forest, and the crystal chap says, yes, explore the crystal forest ... and I can't find anything that may be the answer except for the altars thing.

If that is the case, then like killing the guard to Swerricks tower, one ought really to be prevented from accidentally or inadvertently shutting out or shutting down a quest. I thought that was the way these things usually worked. Apparently not...???

Thanks for the pointer btw ... I shall go and have another look immediately.

No, you didn't muck up the Crystal quest => search for a pink crystal, more west. Witch Raven should be there now, as you have spoken to the cursed man 2x.

I don't think you "mucked up" Serrick either. Did you talk to him upstairs? He has a quest for you, this will show up much later, after you killed the responsible creature.

I don't know your play style - but some fights can be avoided - if you're careful.

Ah. OK, thanks, yes I found the crystals, the plants and finished that quest.

In the previous, discarded game, I couldn't get into the castle at all - because I killed the guard. This time round, I've found the teleporter that needs the gemn, I found the intelligent elemental, who gave me the gem ... but the gem won't go into the teleporter this time. Worse, the game crashed on me, and the last save crashes out as well. If I could get to Serricks tower, if ...

And, to make it all even worse still, on the Lost Monks ... no key to be found. I probably already have picked it up from before - don't usually miss picking things up. In which case, it simply isn't registering at the door. (I do have a few keys in the inventory)

It's not desperately important - but I do need one more quest done to get to the top or second to top on the list. And that doesn't look like its going to happen now.

I've also noticed from time to time that the xp points don't increase with kills, so I have to go back to a previous save to get them building up again.

I'm beginning to think it's serioously time to ditch this game: I'm on v1.44 - every time I download a version, within a day or so it seems another version is out, with all sorts of caveats. I see 1.45 is out now. Ugh!

I'm not very impressed with it, I'm afraid. A disappointment after DD, which I enjoyed without any problems.

One of the frequently repeated helpful hints the devs have appear over and over is that you can't fight every enemy and you sometimes need to sneak.

I never found a fight that couldn't be won and never snuck - the devs must be wimps <broad grin>.

Teleporter gem => if you click on the teleporter, a dialogue should pop up => insert gem or leave.

Please, check which ranking quests are still available in your case => you need about 10000 ranking XP to beat Serrick on the ranking list. And max is 25000. Ranking XP count from the time on, when you're added to the list the Keeper of Ranks makes.

Stolen goods 1500
Talking Tibar 2500
Lost relic 2500
Ball in well 500
Book for Barnabus 2500
Book for witch 2500
Man turning into crystal/cure for... 1500+1500
Kill an assassin 1500
kill Fire Elemental 500
Zandalor wants an artifact 500
Missing monks 2500
Strange teleportations 5000

Thanks for all the help Kiya. Much appreciated.

Yes, the first time I went round, I managed the teleporter gem, no problem. This time, however, even though I collected the gem, the dialog doesn't appear so that I can insert it - just 'leave'. That's my problemo!

I'm going to go back through to the act start yet again ... last time. If it goes pear shaped this time, then I'm ditching it.

On your list, the only quests uncompleted this time round are the Monks (no key anywhere), the teleporter problem (gem has vanished on me). I think I have done the rest, so should be OK. Provided of course the points have accrued as they should (must go and check my rating on the table) - as I mentioned before, I have had sessions where experience points have stuck at one value, and I've had to reload to clear it.

Where are the old Ultima series these days ... I cut my gaming teeth on those.

Morrowind was good too ... played that for over two years, and although I finished the main quest in the end, there were still lots of loose ends that needed tying up, when I finally decided to call it a day. That was the best of the lot, for me.

Ahh.... even though the teleporter pro0blem isn't solved, I had one last go and found my way to Serriks tower - and got in. (How come I fought the guard last time? Bah!)

And blow me down, if he doesn't give me the teleporter quest as well. Sigh.

Maybe I'll just go back and see if I' far enough up the list now to progress to the next Chapter ...

I have discovered the cause of my crashes (I think - I can repeat the process that causes the problem, anyway) ... save the current position over the existing save game. It would appear you always have to save to a different filename to the current 'save' being played. Leastways, if I save over the current game, I walk into a crash. Saving over an old saved file seems ok.

I don't think this is really the case (luckily, because otherwise I'd have been stuck there forever).
For some reason or another, I was afraid to go into the black temple and even when I did, I didn't go straight to the keeper of the ranks. By the time I did, I already solved most quests and the first time I checked my rank I was already number two on the list (my star was rising rapidly I guess...).

Really? that's good news, Desdemona - I was wondering why some gamers said, they didn't get ranking XP and concluded this could be the cause. Thank you
Can you tell me, with which version you found this out, please? This might have changed - because I had 2000 XP less up to version 1.3(?)
