Just wondering when its suppose to be released. I bought BD the first day it came out but after hearing about all the bugs i decided to put it off till it was as bug free as possible. So does any1 know when 1.46 will be done or is 1.45 bugless enuff?

I did the same as you and waited to start playing with 1.45. I find about 1 bug per hour on average (most of which I've mentioned in the technical forum), but that hasn't stopped me from enjoying the game. Most bugs are relatively minor.

As long as you don't like to rely on lock picking (since that skill is still completely broken), I think you'll have fun playing even at this stage.

Patch version 1.45 has corrected the vast majority of the bugs in the game. A few minor ones still exist, but they will not stop you from finishing and enjoying the game.

Most of the bugs that have been reported since v1.45 are not bugs at all (although a few are valid, but insignificant) and they surely will not effect the overall game. You would be wise to just install v1.45 asnd enjoy the game. I have already finished the game 4 times. The first 2 times were difficult because of some serious bugs, but the last 2 times were smooth sailing.

And like honorCobain said, all 4 times you didn't use the lockpick skill, right?

I for one would like for my survivalist (the "thief like" character) to actually be able to pick locks....

Didn't use it, didn't need it, didn't miss it. Sure, it may have been nice to have, but everyone knows that it is broken, and the impact on the game is minimal.

Otherwise we'll just lock you up and throw away the key!! Then you'll really be in trouble.

LOL My cake! I played a pure Warrior in the first game- now I want to play a Thief, and then find out that Lock Pick is broken?! That's a big whoops. Another thing- the Battlefields are bugged. Why again am I running down to the bottom level of the dungeon, only to find that something isn't there to defeat? I personally am waiting for the release of the next patch before picking this game up again. At least we should be thankful that Larian is working on a patch, unlike some other companies out there... However, this game is impossible for me to recommend to anyone the way it is, unless it's to score the free copy of Divine Divinity to play while waiting for this game to get fixed. Well, off to play my equally buggy Thief III and X^2.

Well that might be all nice for you, but what about all those other people who buy the game and dont have net access or dont know about this forum and the broken skill, many people enjoy playing Rogue/Thief and picking locks can be a cool thing to do. I usually play Rogue/Thief and started one of my characters as a Survivor but after finding the broken lock pick skill the game seemed more of a Hack and Slash. So for some the impact can be major, a major flaw in the game that lowers the fun factor for many players, for me, the impact was anything but minimal.

Does anybody know why lockpick is "broken"?

At a guess, there might be at least a couple of possible reasons how and why:

a) There is a fault in the code that relates directly to the operation of the skill and its various levels.

b) They ran out of time and simply didn't get round to putting in any suitable chests, doors, locks, etc that could be unlocked with the right skill. In other words, pretty much all the locks in the game can only be unlocked with the right key or lever, and didn't get a lockpick level assigned to them.

If it's a) then a fix might be in the pipeline. If it's b) - a fix is probably unlikely.

Just guessing though. Anybody have any more specific info?

I know that it can be difficult at times, but we could try to stay on topic a bit. The initial question that was asked in this thread is:

My suggestion to that person, not to you, was to play the game now and not hang around waiting for another patch. I still believe that that is good advice. Since, out of the hundreds of chests in the game, you could count the number of chests that cannot be opened on one hand (and still have fingers left over), making your remarks specious at best and inciting at worst.

Sure, lockpick should have worked from the get-go. But it didn't, and luckily it is one skill that is easy to live without.

Let's not belittle the simple fact that different people enjoy different ways of playing a game. To warriors lockpicking probably doesn't matter very much. To a thief-survivor it means a tremendous amount. Let's not demean what different people like and feel. It's not becoming to any of us.

True, but there are only three or four key-less chests in the whole game.

Especially considering I had dumped considerable stat increases into Agility, Speed, and Survival... Those are now essentially poor choices considering I can't really be a proper Thief now...

i know it's not completely satisfactory, but you're set to become a great bow user with your stats distributed as they are.
perhaps that's the 'bright side', but the alternative is not so pleasing....

Tinman, let me make a short lockpick-statistic out of my memory:

Act 1 => 3 chests in recruit room + 1 chests in the officer's room + bathroom door
Act 2 => not one I recall
Act 3 => the locked house (as the landlord has the key, no access) + 1 locked chest in it + (1 chest stuck in the wall, lockpick won't help)
Act 4 => 3 locked gates for a Raanaar crossbow + 3 (4) chests + 1 locked door in mirror room + 2 locked cupboards => the number in brackets is due to the fact: a key exists but doesn't fit

my total => 8(10) chests + 6 locked gates/doors + 2 locked cupboards.

I invested my skill points into pickpocket - even if lockpick would work; I'd still keep to this decision. I played an archer/survivor/mage
Kiya

I made these statistics to show you which (minor) role lockpick plays in BD. And I ask you now: would you invest 10 skill pts into this skill if it wasn't broken?

Hi,

You all have very good points I didn't think about. I yield to your better judgment about the keys. If I could not open a chest I didn't bother about it. We can't be sure terrific things are always in a locked chest anyway. Obsessing about it is a waste of mental energy.
It should definitely be fixed in D2. Hopefully Larian is listening and doing just that.
