ok, I've just reached Verdistis have the opportunity to join the thieves guild.
My questions: how do the guilds work?
1. is the thieves guild only one I can join?
2. does joining the thieves guild prevents me from joining some other guild?
oh, and another one: how many guilds are there anyway? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Hi Toshi!

There are the fighters guild, the guild of the woodmen, the assasins guild and the thieves guild. However only the fighters and the thieves guild are joinable.

There is no real need to join the guilds but you miss some very valuable side quests in both cases. Joining one guild doesn´t exclude you from joining the other...

thx for the welcome <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
and for a fast reply <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mage.gif" alt="" />

I tried joining the thieves guild (those test-quests are... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />
easy? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" /> the only bad thing I saw is... my reputation fell by two points :-(
oh, well... I'm a Divine One, if someone likes it, or not <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
ok... I'm joining the thieves guild !!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/party.gif" alt="" />

oh, another question - inside the guild some guy wants to bet, if I can open 8 doors... I can open 3 of them (I have lockpicking on 3 lvl), and I quess the fourth one requires 4 lvl of lockpicking? and what about the other 4 doors?

You have two ways of solving this quest. Either you have lockpick level 5 to open the last door and therefore win the bet. (and a lot of money) or you report back without opening loosing the bet. in this case the thieves guild member learns you 1 level in lockpick for free. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Well not for free - it did cost you the 5.000 betting money, but it's worth it. The other three doors do not belong to the bet quest.

I just got to the wastelands, and I have around 500,000 gold. Plus I have 10-20 of those red charms (which I can sell since I will not use them), and tons of silver charms (which I may use).

I looted and sold everything I could. Before hitting the gong, I had 6 gold charms, and 29 stacks of 50k gold (1,450,000). My inventory at the end of the game included;

66 gold / very large charms
59 silver / large charms
24 red / medium charms
19 blue / minor charms
1 green / weak charm

1154 minor restoration potions
650 regular restoration potions
I found / made 83 super restoration potions, but traded them for a gold charm and a couple spell books. Amazing how many potions you can collect if you buy them when selling stuff, and stick the excess in a chest somewhere.

uuhmm... cheats?
naaah... I'm kidding <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />

I'm at the moment, where I have to collect the council... 56k <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> and lts of blue charms... some of reds and one silver...
but yesterday I found a way to duplicate items <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" /> but I won't use this - it's not fair :P

oh, and a question: what are all those gems for? for some kind of potions, or what??

Actually, that depends on how you define cheating; I didn't do anything not allowed within the game. Before the using the wishing well to boost my level, using the jug in the bee/wasp garden and leaving for the wastelands I used Resurrect repeatedly to top off my experience points and get to the next level (or just get close in the case of the imp council member quest). This resulted in more dropped loot than I would have gotten otherwise. I also sometimes used Resurrect on the lizards in the Dark Forest, looking for dropped charms. That got boring fast, so I would just resurrect groups and leave, then kill them again if I happened by that way later.

Many of the silver charms I bought from Kistandalius in Ars Magicana and Corinna in Verdistis. The only red / blue charms I bought were from the blind seer, in the one encounter you have with her.

Gems are only useful as a lightweight item for trade (gold is weightless, though) or as lighting at night (to decorate your home base).

ok, relax - I was kidding about the cheats <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> I also use different methods to get as much cash as it's possible <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" />

and for those gems... so I CAN sell them !!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/party.gif" alt="" /> finally... I thought they can be used like charms (or like gems in Diablo 2 <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> )

and another question <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> : where can I get/buy red or silver charms?

I know; I answered anyway. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Besides Kistandalius and Corinna that I mentioned above, Blake in Ars Magicana and Mpenzak in Verdistis also sometimes have charms. Other NPCs have a (lower in my experience) random chance of having charms, so you can also try soldiers, the dwarves in the dwarven halls, etc.

No cheating, or abuse here. Never resurected anything to kill again. Never picked a pocket (except the one quest). Did have repair at level 3 early on and repaired everything before selling it. Did hit level 5 repair with a ton of stuff stored in a chest and repaired it all before selling it. Did pick up every single item that did not cause a stealing conversation. Did pick every locked chest/door. Did kill every enemy in the game pre-gong. Did have level 2 Alchemy very early in the game (10 gold converts to 50 or was it 100?) which equaled lots of extra gold via creating healing/mana/restoration potions for 1/5 the cost.

I easily could have had more gold if I had not bought all those super healing potions (barely ever used one, and easily found as many as I used), spellbooks (I bought every one I found for sale even though the only spell I cast is Restoration), and green/blue/red charms (of which I only used 1-3 even though I bought/found 20-40 of them).

I actually thought I may make a character specifically to make the most cash possible: max repair, level 2 alchemy, max identify, max pickpocket, max pick lock. Never sell anything not at full durability. Buy every small empty flask, and create potions with them. Pick everyone's pockets. Pick every lock. Never buy anything I am not going to use (I wasted alot of gold on spellbooks and green/blue/red charms). Never pay to repair/identify anything. I just thought it may be interesting to know just how much cash I could get.

ok, hmmmmmm... why does Kistandalius have the same stuff for sale since few (game) days? Is there some "spawn" time for new items or is it random?

plus: somewhere I found a tip for DD, to make "camps" - leave the teleport stone in (for example) Rivertown market and put some hay for sleeping. How can I do sth like this, if I can't carry the "sleepable" hay?

PS. this topic should be renamed to "Toshi's questions and stuff" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />

Toshi, if you look at the pic link => this house has a portable bed with 0 weight. Just carry it to the place of your choice and drop it, place a pyramid next to it, and you can sleep under the stars without getting pinched by straw.

Guess, this bed was not meant to be portable - but you have to remove it in order to reach the hatch underneath - then one gamer had the idea to pick it up and found out, it has 0 weight and it can be used - either in inventory to sleep via click - or be dropped and then used.

Haybed has this disadvantage:
You can carry straw bundles, but as soon as you drop and click on them to get a hay bed => you can't pick up the hay again. So, gamers came to this solution: Drag&drop 2 bundles of straw into your inventory and then click on both to get a hay bed => thus being able to sleep "in your inventory".

Edit: Sorry, always mix up straw/hay => the last edit is correct, screenshot will follow.

For most NPCs the inventories will be reset after about 10 to 15 minutes real time. If you talk to an NPC, run your mouse over them or hit the alt key nearby it will set the inventory. If you do that before the reset time is up, you will have to wait another 10 or 15 minutes.

LOL, so you can make a hay-bed from every kind of hay? I thought there's some special kind, that you can sleep on <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

If you go to a NPC and talk to him, shop.

then DO NOT press ALT or put mouse over him.

Wait 10-15 minutes in real life time, ( say 9:00-9:15 )
and it will re fill the inventory.

To rephrase what I and Lews said;
If you leave an NPC for a certain time (varies a bit between NPCs) their inventory will be reset.
If you come back before that happens and hit alt or talk to the person, you will need to wait the full reset time again. Talking to someone every 5 minutes, their inventory will never reset.

Also, merchants can keep some of the items you sell them, particularly quest items and some magic items. These show up at the top of the inventory list, so with enough of them accumulated you might not be able to see that the rest of the inventory has changed without scrolling down.

I think it is every 10-15 minutes that a trader changes his wears.

Another thing i think you should carry bundles of hay near your teleporter and then arranmge it into sleepable hay.

About money,i am nearing the wasteland part and i too have 6 golden charms but not as much money as Raze,i do have a ton of other charms though.

Until recently i never knew there was a green charm

You know, green charms being the rarest, they should sell for a pretty penny, but its a pity that they are so weak.
Rather it should be sold for a high price not becuase its weak, but becuase its like a collecters item.

Very rare,if not unique.

sorry. may i go back to guild related question. the chap at the bar beneath the pub in verdistis wil trade but never has anything interesting on him. when terminating the trading he tells me come back with more money next time. why is this? i have now over 250,000 gold but havent been to check for a while. does he pull out something spectacular when one has enough money or is it a ploy for players to collect more money?

suggestions? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> to arrive in the post. does it compare to DD

In a game started after installing the 1.34 patch, Finnigan will have a fairly good inventory, selling lockpicks, traps, potions (at least poison, IIRC) and miscellaneous equipment. Also in this case you can return the magic lockpicks he asks you to steal to complete the quest, then buy them back.
In games started with the unpatched version, or an earlier hotfix, he does not carry much, and returning the magic lockpicks is final (it is better not to complete the quest, IMNSHO).

BD is the same as DD, only different. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> There are a lot of similarities, though the skill system has been changed and character movement / management is a little different with 2 characters to control. BD is a bit more linear, being divided into separate acts, but after the first act it is fairly non-linear within an act.
