I am "patched up" and pleased to report that there has been no problems,
although I have noticed there seems to be more monsters in the BF's now ...
the only thing that threw me off was when i rebooted and went to play....
the notice came up that "installation was successful...restart now?" ...
I did....and it was! thanks again ALL!

Many thanks for the compliment Lynn.... but IMO playing a wonderful game is no real bother

And thanks for the whole Larian team that spent days fixing little things that we managed to break (boy it was fun trying to do everything backwards, and running headlong into walls)

Aww well.... back to playing it the "normal way"

Totally agree. After completing, or partially completing, 6 games of BD in the past few weeks I am almost ready for more BD. I am taking a short break first to check out some of the Knights of the Old Republic mods (some of the new Jedi robes are very nice), then another game of DD, then back to BD for another fun runthrough.

IMHO, the Larian folks have set a wonderful example of computer game customer support.

No one can say that better

Nowhere else have i seen such a dedicated support team (or such dedicated fans - so there is a compliment for everybody here)..

WELL DONE .... all the hardwork really shows....

I wonder if i should send Larian a year supply of Detox.... (to counter all the cups of late night coffee )

Downloaded and installed patch succesfully including machine restarts. Now....why wont my game start any more? I downloaded the patch because my 2nd battlefield is EMPTY of mobs! That is right..not hidden.. just not there at all. Now as nice as it is to just collect all the stuff in the dungeon safely I am not getting much needed experience to level thus the patch download in hopes that it will repair it. But now I dont have to worry about missing mobs as the game tries to start by looking at the disk then nothing... absolutely nothing. I have checked game faq and other posts but cannot find a solution. Am sorry I even downloaded patch now

HELP !

The patch will prevent the level 2 dungeon in act 1 from being generated empty, but will not spawn monsters in an already created battlefield. It fixes other problems, though, so you should still try to get it working.

Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before trying to start the game?

Does the copy protection window disappear after the CD check?

Are you getting an error message when you try to start BD that it wasn't shut down properly the last time? You should if control gets to the game and it starts to do something before crashing/exiting.

Did you install or update anything else at the same time? I'm pretty sure you shouldn't need to reboot the computer after the patch, just when the game is first installed (that may be different in Windows XP; I use 98SE).

You can try re-installing the patch, or the copy protection; Updating or removing StarForce drivers.

You could try a clean re-install of the game (and patch if you want to check that there wasn't just a problem installing it the first time).
Zip or otherwise backup your saved games folder to another location first, just in case. Each save is a separate subfolder in the '..\Beyond Divinity\savegames' folder; the 5 'bd_act#_start' folders are created/updated by the game/patch, and do not need to be backed up.
Un-install the game, re-boot, in Windows Explorer browse to the 'Beyond Divinity' folder and make sure there are no files or folders remaining, except within the 'savegames' folder (though the 5 'bd_act#_start' folders should be gone). After that, shut down all non essential programs (especially anti-virus), re-install the game, re-boot and shut down all non essential programs again. Start the game to confirm the problem is with the patch and not something else that changed in your system. After that you may want to try installing the patch again, then re-boot, shut down all non essential programs, and see if you can start the game.

There are 2 English patches, one for the UK and North American versions, and one for the Australian version (still at v1.45).

Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before trying to install the patch?

The patch checks the registry to find the install path, and will give that error if it doesn't find what it expects. In Windows XP, did you install the game from an account with administrative privileges? Have you used any registry compression or cleaning tools, that may have been a little too aggressive?

If that is the problem, you could backup any saved games (just in case) and re-install the game. Another method to add/change the required entries is to use a registry file, described in this post. For a much more user friendly interface, you can email Larian support (support@larian.com) to get a vbs file (Visual Basic Script) that can make the appropriate registry changes.

Hi

I am in the UK but bought my Beyond Divinity from North America.

My machine has XP Home, Athlon 64, GeForce 6800, SB Live 24Bit and 512 MB RAM.

I have the game installed in XP and at installation updated it with patch 1.45 - which at the time I thought was the latest one.
Didn't know about this site then

A) Is it safe to download and apply patch 1.47 to my existing game in play or will I have to start again and then apply it ??

B) And in whichever case, will it solve the problems below ?? ........

*In the prison (Level 1) I can't get through the locked door to the Training Grounds etc (?) at bottom right.
I completed all the rest of the dungeon and collected all available keys but none open this door - so I gave up till I could get advice and went on to my first Battle Field.

*In this first Battle Field, when I call up the full screen map, there is sometimes nothing on it except my own position - marked by the little blue cross.

*In the dungeon of this first section, I have explored everywhere except a couple of rooms at the very South. I can open the door to this area but my characters won't go through it so I can't complete the dungeon and solve the quest.

Hope you can advise me about all this

Cheers.

Mad
