hello,

Im in act 2 in the lich cave, I posted the statues, the blue key appeared and I entered the final cave with the true lich. He tells me to come near an grab the key. But nothing happens. There is no key to grab and the lich remains friendly. Whenever I come close, only the dialogue box opens, nothing else.

How can I proceed?

hi!
you have to move the 2 objects (located to the right of the key)

hi gioz,

thanks for your help, but I don't know how to apply it. Which item do I have to move? In the room are bookshelves, the dead mutant, piles of books and a skeleton that cannot be moved. Then there is a table with some dishes and a candle an two books. Even when I press Alt there is no hint for the key. It seems as if it is not there!

Did you meet outside the cave, a mutant talking about a shiny treasure he has found, before entering the lich cave ?

Did you use the Alt key for searching the key ?
The lich will not attack you if you don't pick up the key !

BTW have you checked your quest log for being sure that the "Lost key" quest is opened ?

This is the original dialog, where he tells you that you can have the key? Picking up the key should trigger another conversation, after which he turns hostile.

A couple other people ran into a different missing quest item, which also should have been on the ground. The workaround for that should also work here (see below);
3rd. Crystal Fragment help (minor spoilers)

Alternately, the lost key is a minor quest, so skipping it will only result in missed experience from killing the lich and returning the key.

Notes: The world.* files keep track of quest opened locations, as well as objects directly on the ground. Since my game and yours were likely not done in the same order, after file swapping to get the key and trigger the cut scene, the original world file must be restored, or you may find certain areas re-sealed or other quest objects missing.

Procedure;

1 ) Download
the zipped world file from my save (after talking to the master lich for the first time) and extract it to a temporary location.

2 ) Save your game under a new name, lets say 'key 1' for the sake of reference (or make a copy of your latest save game folder).

3 ) Create a subfolder in this saved game folder, and move that world.x0 file into it. You must restore this file at the end of the procedure.

4 ) Move my world.x0 file from the temporary location into the 'key 1' game folder.

5 ) Re-load the 'key 1' game, so that it is updated. The lost key from my game should now be on the ground in yours.

6 ) Pick up the key to trigger a cut scene, and then kill the lich.

7 ) Save the game under a new name, such as 'key 2'.

9 ) Copy the original world.x0 from the subfolder in the 'key 1' saved game into the 'key 2' saved game, overwriting the file there.

10 ) Re-load the 'key 2' game, and continue playing.

hi,

thanks for both advice! I will be able to test them this evening the earliest, maybe it will take more time. But I will inform you of the results!

Hello Raze and Barta,

your analysis of my problem was absolutely right, I could solve it. And as I now understand the mechnism I can explain what went wrong.

Some time after entering the mushroom forest I encountered the mutant which found the key. Thus the key-quest was opened. Later I tried to enter the lich cave, but as I stated in a different post I entered a cave without walls and items.
With that previous problem Raze gave me the correct advise, to copy a world.x0 file from an earlier saving into my present savegame. I took one from a time before I entered the mushroom forest. And what a joy, the cave now had walls and bookshelves and other items. When I encountered the lich, he asked me to take the key, but there was no key, because in the now valid world.x0 I had not yet encountered the mutant finding the key (Barta was right!!!).
Raze, I tried your world.x0 file, following your procedure, and there was a key on the ground. But as you were playing the English version of BD and I am playing the German version, the key (which looked like a key) was labelled “small statuette” and I still could not take it.
Therefore I copied my own world.x0 file (the one without walls but with the key quest) into my present savegame. Now I was in an empty cave without walls, bookshelves etc., but the lich and the key were visible. After taking the key the lich attacked me, I killed him and quickly copied the world.x0 (with walls etc., but without key quest) into my savegame. Having the key in my inventory I could approach the imp who was missing the key and got my reward.

What did I learn from it? As stated correctly in his procedure, if someone is missing an item and changes the world.x0 file to get it, he must immediately change back to the original world.x0 file or several other quests etc. may be corrupted.

Once again, Raze and Barta, thanks for your great advice.
