I played through DD a few weeks ago and just got BD. I played DD as a pretty vanilla warrior sticking with just basic damage and defense skills. However...

Spoiler : I got absolutely stopped cold by one of the mini-bosses near the end of the game who used cloaking spells and various shenanegans on me. The DD forum offered a lot of good tips on beating her, but unfortunately the strategies all involved skills that I didn't have. I gave up and never completed the game.

Sooo, my question is: are there any skills in BD that are 'must-haves' to get through the game?

Thanks!

A very nice feature of BD is that you can "unlearn" skills and use those skill points to learn other skills (at a financial cost)....

So there are no MUST have skills... you can always aquire them when you need them, at the expense of a skill you no longer require

The skills most often loved by gamers are:

Shamaan magic > hammer
Pickpocket
Lockpick
Weapon (bow / sword / etc) experties
and various offensive skills like elemental fire damage etc.... but those vary between what play style you have...

But dont worry about not being able to learn a skill later on.... you can always pay the penalty (money is plentyful in the game) and unlearn a skill to learn a new one.

For DD, there is an exploit which can make any fight easy for a warrior. If you drink a shadow potion and use your spin attack near (but not directly on) a creature, you will hit it without turning visible (ie they will not hit back). IIRC, this even works when you are Blind (though you can also just wait for the effect to wear off).

With BD, I was saving up my skill points because I wasn't sure if I was going to stick with a sword for my DK or not. After that there was a bit of complaining in the forum about the lack of skill points, so I decided to use less.
Near the end of the game my DK had 21 spare skill points. He had 2 in individual healing (handy at the start of the game to top off health after a fight, rather than using potions), 2 in Sharpen, 5 in Repair and 3 in 2-handed slashing expertise. My hero had 16 spare skill points, using 2 for individual healing, 5 for Identify Equipment and 10 for Crossbow Expertise (7 of that in Reload Time).
For the last couple of fights I used my DK's spare skill points to upgrade the skeleton summoning doll (and gave it a crossbow). My hero switched to a bow, unlearned the crossbow skill and invested more skill points in bow expertise.

I put a few points into "Wisdom". Personally I believe it's worth it.

And Alchemy, too.
