I would guess 'probably'. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
There is a known problem with the copy protection used in Beyond Divinity with 64 bit versions of Windows, but Divine Divinity works fine under 64 bit XP. I don't recall anyone mentioning either game under Vista (though with the changes MS is making to how drivers are handled I would think BD may have problems even with the 32 bit version).

Did you try the compatibility mode options in Vista (right click the div.exe file and select Properties, then switch to the Compatibility tab)?

I installed, updated and played Divine Divinity at home on a Vista machine (Vista Ultimate, the first official release) without any problems or any special action/change. So even without having to run it under compatibility mode.

It could be that running the setup application seems to hang, but this is Vista "checking" the executable and that can take a while.

Also make sure that you have enough priviliges/rights to install programs.

I have had this game for a few years now, installed it a long time ago and it froze on me so uninstalled it. I built my new pc and found this game in an old box figured i would try it again but it will not install on my vista home premium. I looked through the faqs and tried but the setup.exe file is running but wont proceed. no pop ups or anything. is there a place i can download the full version and use my disc or am i sol? Anyhelp is appreciated,

As far as I know, the full version still is not available for digital download.

This could be an interesting idea, though, selling it via Steam ... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />

Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before trying to install the game?

How long did you wait for the setup program to start? ForkTong said above that it can take awhile for Vista to 'check' the executable before running it.

Troubleshooting Tips (& manual install procedure) - several archive managers are mentioned in this topic for the manual install; IZArc is the only one that specifically mentions Vista support on its homepage.

I have my antivirus shut off and put the cd in the drive and i get a pop up and click run, I used run as admin. then another pop up of allow, then i get a cmd window for a split second then nothing. It ran last time for about 10-15 minutes before i gave up. I am going to let it run for 45 minutes and see if that does the trick. I already have 7-zip been using it for a long time. After the pop up cmd box it shows setup.exe in my processes. Hoping to get to finally play this game after having it for about 4 years give or take.

Thanks for the replies,

BossHog

This would be a great idea for Larian. Honestly Divine Divinity should've definitely been a big hit, although I like BD as well but some people didn't. Putting it on steam is an easy way to market the game automatically and spread the word.

Only reason I ever had a chance to play Divine Divinity was because someone mentioned how great it was in a random thread in the official Fallout forums a few years ago. Had it not been for that I would've never heard of or played this or Beyond Divinity.

Well I am back, I finally got this game installed and its running flawlessly. I got it to install by viewing files on the cd and right clicking it instead of trying to copy and paste them on my pc. Is a great game for how old it is, getting my new pc parts comming friday so I will be transfering this game to my quad core pc once i get it built. Again thanks for the game and this support site keep up the great work.

Glad you got it working. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/party.gif" alt="" />

You should just be able to copy the game from your current PC to the new one, assuming they will be networked or you are just transferring the hard drive. The registry entries the installer creates (described in the manual install procedure) are only required so the patch can find the install path, and are not required if you have installed the patch on your current system, or have an already updated re-release version of the game (ie 1.0034A shown in the bottom right corner of the main menu).
