After about 4-5 hours of gameplay, DD shuts down, without warning. I have everything closed before i play... any suggestions?

So the crashing appears to be just time based?

If you save the game, exit and restart after about 3 hours, does that avoid the crashing?

Closing it does solve the problem, but it's rather annoying to have to worry about it though. It starts lagging very very bad, almost to where i can't even move. Stays like that for about 5 minutes then crashes, it shuts down explorer as well, and i have to restart my computer

In the topic Awful Slowdown, Plowking recommended the program RAM Idle which fixed that problem. If your system or the game is developing a memory leak after 4 or 5 hours, this or a similar program may help.

At least you get some warning before the crash, so can save your game.

Some people did experience slowdowns in Verdistis, but AFAIK that should be pretty much fixed in the latest game version.
Some re-release versions of the game may already be updated to the latest 1.0034A version, as shown in the bottom right corner of the main menu; if you have an earlier version, you should install the patch. The DVD version is already updated, and the patch (designed for the CD version) should not be installed.
