If i recall correctly my warrior builds in the distant past always had slashing and the likes skills. I read parts of the walkthrough pdf and now i noticed a lot of those abilities might not have worked for say a 'Shadow Axe' and the likes.
Is this correct?

Yes, that is correct. The conventional damage types and shadow/bone damage are separate, and require separate skills. Personally I think bone and shadow damage types should have been designed as a subskill to the main damage class. If you know how to use a sword, you still get some benefit for a shadow sword, but need to invest some skill points to get the best effect from that damage type.

*nods* Thanks.
I find it a very odd choice myself.
A sword remains a sword even if it has an odd 'elemental' property.
