Was passiert, wenn Sie ICE ECC versucht?

Did you check the disk for scratches, dust or fingerprints?

Try copying the problem files from another optical drive, or another computer. A different drive may be better at reading errors on the disk.

Do you know anyone else with the disk version of the game, that you can borrow the Play CD from long enough to install the game and make a copy of the disk (or those rar files)? Alternately, once you get it working you can compress the entire Divine Divinity folder and back it up to DVD, or something, and reinstall the game in the future by extracting it from that backup.

One person was able to copy a problem archive off the CD and use Winrar to fix it.

What happened when you tried ICE ECC?
I don't know if the rar files are the same between the German and English versions of the game, but here are some ECC files for the automaps.rar, sound.rar and wizf.rar files. Assuming a reasonable number of recovery blocks are needed, I can upload more ECC files so that you can recover the rar files off your play CD.
You will at least need a working automap.rar file; the wizf.rar file is only needed if you want to play a female mage character.

Have you already downloaded the ICE ECC program as well as my zipped ECC files?

ICE ECC homepage: program with install (702KB) or just zipped (629KB).

After installing the ICE ECC program (or extracting the zip file to an appropriate folder), start it. Under the toolbar, the top pane will list all available drives. Browse to where you extracted the ecc file (ie double click on the local disk 'c:' then the folder 'temp' if you extracted the files to c:\temp) and double click the ecc file (or select it and click on the 'Verify' toolbar button).

In the window that pops up, browse to the folder containing the damaged rar file and click 'OK'. In the left pane of this window you would click on the plus sign next to your optical drive's drive letter, click on the 'disc3' folder to select it and then click the OK button.

Right after you click OK, the window will be refreshed and the title bar changed, this time asking for a folder to place the recovered file. Browse to a folder on your hard drive (perhaps the folder you extracted the ecc file to) where you have more than 350MB free space (for all 3 rar files), select it in the left pane and click OK.

The program will then read the file off the CD, listing blocks (sections of the file) that it can not read. If the damage in each rar file is limited to one section, the program can repair the file right away, saving a good version where you previously indicated.
If there is additional damage, the program will list the error 'Not Enough Recovery Blocks' (with a yellow background colour) in the bottom message pane, followed by the fraction of the available recovery blocks (1 at this point) to the total number required. Given the number of blocks you need, I can upload more ecc files (though if the 'damage' is a significant portion of the files size, there are probably easier ways to get a replacement).

Let me know if you have any problems, or how many recovery blocks you need for each of the files.
I created separate ecc files for each of the files you had a problem with, but if the number of blocks isn't very high I can create recovery files for all 3 together.

Hi Raze,
thanks for your instruction. I understood now how to recover the fils. just, it failed. I do have to many borken blocks. There are some 2000 broken blocks and only about 370 in the ECC file. Could you send me some more files. I think I would need a 4 or 5 times more.
Thank you so much for all your help,
regards,bj

Hallo Raze,

Vielen Dank schon mall für all deine Hilfe.
Beste Grüsse,
Bj

Are you using ecc files that I posted in another topic, or something?
Each rar file on the play CD that I created ecc files for was split into 2048 blocks, with only a single block in the first file (the ones I zipped together and gave the link to above).

What was the fraction listed with a yellow background for each of the rar files when the program said there were not enough recovery blocks?
If there are really 2000 bad blocks, then most of that is probably differences between the English rar files and the German ones, as opposed to that much of the disk being unreadable.

Rather than finding somewhere to upload a couple hundred MB of ecc files, it would be easier to replace the files than try to repair them (and also safer than mixing language versions).

The files in these rar files were not changed (at least between the original English release and the download version), so you could install the download version of the game (check your messages), and copy the files below to your disk version install. The download version removed the 'run' folder, so all the subfolders are directly under the 'Divine Divinity' folder, but other than that the file locations are pretty much the same.

automaps.rar

30 automap* files copy to '..\Divine Divinity\Run\dat'

sound.rar

sound.cmp copy to '..\Divine Divinity\Run\dat'

music.dat, nsound.dat, reverbregions.dat and reverbs.dat copy to '..\Divine Divinity\Run\sound'

wizf.rar

5 wizf?.bic files copy to '..\Divine Divinity\Run\static\heroes'
