Let's assume I have a weapon with Poison (or Fire/Lightning/Spirit) (1-5) ability. It doesn't provide skill level, but an innate ability like Frost, Life Drain, Mana Drain.
And I coat it with Poison Weapon skill, and also have the Poison Weapon skill.

Will all source of elemental damage work, or it is waste of skillpoint/resources?

It should work, but would kind of be a waste of skill points, IMO (especially with Frost, since it ignores the target's resistance, and always applies).
Poison Weapon can be quite effective, especially early in the game.

I found Stun quite helpful, and eventually maxed it, after buying a weapon with that bonus shortly after getting to the farmlands. I didn't invest in the passive elemental damage skills; early in the game they don't get triggered very frequently, and later I didn't need the extra damage. Having elemental damage bonuses on weapons is nice, but after the base damage I went for primary stats and HP/mana for bonuses, when available.

Note that mixing any 2 of Frost on a weapon, Stun on a weapon and the passive Stun skill can sometimes result in creatures hanging in mid death animation, and not dropping items or giving experience. An area effect spell that doesn't need a target, such as Hell Spikes, can force the animation to end. Some people also reported that waiting a bit or sleeping would also work.

I found Stun bothersome, and not effecting anything after I went through the first bridge.
Poison Weapon might be strong, no idea. No idea what source of poison gives what strength of poison, and either way I'm not into crafting, thank you.

There are no skills which give MP/HP/stats, and I'm playing straight melee, thus I don't really have things to spend skillpoints on.

And given how overpowered Freeze is, I even rerolled pretty good weapons because of it.
I mean there are 3 type of enemies in the game: #1 feeder: mostly insignificant, even in gorups #2 high level things: they are like the first category, aka. normal monsters, but their level (compared to the character's) give them some advantage to make you pay attention because with enough hit they can drain you. Still, they are more problematic indungeons where you can't/don't want to leave for a heal. #3 minibosses. Those that hit ca. 600 dmg per hit, thus can easily "oneshot" you. They even have HP in the thousands, so they are a fuss. They make STR-charms even for a warrior negligable, as the need for vitality is that much higher.
Back to the point: if Freeze is on the weapon, what's the remaning challenge? The Black Lagoon is already boring as heck with my elemental immunities (gargoyles can't do squat, and they are the 99% of the residence).

But thx for the info. I go and buy all 3 elemental bonuses. I bet monsters will resist all of them, but whatever.

I believe a monster may resist some well but usually there's one it doesn't. Really no way of knowing which it is vulnerable to, though, unless DD has something like "know thy enemy" (I don't remember).

I found Stun helpful throughout the game.

Survivor's Instinct will slowly heal your character, if you have skill points you don't know what to do with. It isn't enough to help during combat, but can top up your health when you go drop off loot, or trade, etc.

There is a survivor skill Know Creature that shows NPC stats when you mouse over them (up to a character level 10 times the skill level); level 5 shows the resistances.
Playing straight melee, though, it is unnecessary, and when I tried it, just found that it cluttered the tooltips.
