I feel sad for all the folks who didn't get and play <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> because CDV dropped the ball on selling it here in the states. As we have discussed over and over how commercial the U.S. is, I am still suprised they didn't push it more. "SIGH" Perhaps <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> will get a better shot. It looks great! Bet it plays great too! I can't wait!

i first "met" the game on "shrimpTV" a (for me), popular game tv show. I saw Lar in a iron closset playing with his laptop and the closset just collapst on his head. verry funny. but after the previeuw of this game i was selled to the Larians. I am glad CDV will not be publishing the new game. Out of all the newsletters I recieved from them, only 3 of them even mentioned <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" />! Pitifull! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/down.gif" alt="" /> When I recieve news from them nowdays, I glance and delete. Dear god I hope not. Atari has messed up NWN twice now (the original and the expansion) with their crappy CD's, packaging as well as support. A lot of the CDs shipped with the original NWN literally developed cracks, and customers had to return those CDs and pay for the shipping themselves. I hear the expansion has similar in-box problems. Scandalous.

atari published ut2003, and some copies shipped with an orange manual (text being orange instead of black). I think they said something that guy mixing the colors made some mistakes there. lol

Hope it's not ATARI. I have a strong dislike for that company. For once it's the only who ship games in cheap CD sleeves. Also I have bad luck with games published by Atari <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />.

Hopefully Larian will get a supportive publisher.
Another of my favorite Developers, Sir-Tech (Creaters of Wizardry), have stopped making games at the moment because they couldn't get a publisher for Wizardry 8. They ended up signing an exclusive shipping deal with one or two stores.
The game ended up winning numourus awards but no one wanted to distribute it because it didn't have mass blood or mature themes. (Bare in mind it had a solid engine a very long and serious story that branches out depending on how you played the game and multiple beginnings and endings.

The game was published by Electronic Boutique, I think. The game had awesome reviews yet I don't remember anyone buying it. Such a shame! I hope RR will get a good publisher... I've bought Wizardry 8 two months or so ago, and I'm currently playing it (being the first W. game for me). I like it *very much* and always keep looking at the forums at www.rpgdot.com for hints. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> I think it's a kind of shame that this game is rarely available here in Germany (at least that's my personal, subjective impression), although it is so good.

I had no problems getting Wiz 8 - my former trader was very helpful - even got the English version. Smaller shops usually offer a better service, but are more expensive (US version, 2001 = 60-70 EUR)

Well back to the topic there are a few up and coming publishers that are worth looking into.
Dreamcatcher: They created 'The Adventure Company' for there adventure game line and are using this label for Action and RPG's
GOT Game: Have some decent game but I've only seen them in the bargain bin arena.
Microids: Lately they have put out some decent titles, (Warrior Kings) though I think they are now a branch of Dreamcatcher since the last few games they put out in Canada are the same as Adventure Company (Syberia, Post Mortom)
All the others I can think of have been bought or have closed.

There are many other European based publishers. As the German market has been proved to be important to Larian Studios, they might go for a European one again. From the top of my head: There are some Russian publishers: 1C, Russobit, Buka There is AxelTribe in Spain There is Koch and Big Ben in the UK There is JoWood and CDV in respectively Austria and Germany. And there probably are a whole bunch I forgot also. As far as getting PR stuff from the publishers, Atari equals 'SUCKS' and seeing the mess Jowood made of publishing and distributing Gothic I don't think much of them either. If Larian Studios is getting involved with Jowood then they are getting involved in a very instable company. They were close to bankrupcy not to long ago.

Gothic I was published in Germany by Shoebox - never heard of this one before.

Publishing Gothic 1 has been a strange and troublesome path I recall. The German publisher was Egmond Interactive, I believe. I don't think they exist anymore. Jowood took over a lot of games from them, but if Gothic was part of that or not was unclear. Jowood claimed it was, Piranha bytes stated differently. In the end I believe the German version was published by JoWood and distributed under the Shoebox label. But I could be off base here.
The internation publisher is Xicat and published the game (English version) for: North America, France, Benelux, Scandinavia, England, Italy, Australia, New Zealand and Korea.

Fishtank no longer exists. All the games they published have been bought up by JoWood. Which was a shame, they had a terific PR lady there and JoWood didn't even come close to what she was capable of doing.

Last time I heard about Interplay was several months ago and they were in some severe financial trouble as well as in some legal problems. I haven't heard a thing regarding them since.

i know of a game you had to downlaod from there site! it was called "ancient evil" a snippit from the gamespot website: [color:"pink"] Australian game developer Silver Lightning has announced the release of its latest role-playing game. Games don't appear just like that on the shelves in shops. They need to be distributed, so you need distribution channels. Also you need to buy shelf space to make it noticeable, without it the game ends up somewhere in the back of the shop. They need to make and place ads. As a distributor you buy many ads and thus get a discount in magazines.
All this does require knowledge and expertise, which a developer normally not has. It's not impossible but it's hard and you don't get any money until the end, which is probably the hardest part.

I didn't need any publication, i bought it just because it was Belgian (supporting the nation's economy and so on...) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> , then saw whether it was good or not and you all know how lucky i was <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Intrestingly that's the case with AoW:SM, too.
