Hello,

I have been having an issue getting the Divinity Engine 2 running and I have tried many of the suggestions offered by other people but nothing has worked for me so far. I am running the game client through Steam.

I followed the instructions to get the engine running:

[*]Checked the "Divinity Engine 2 Data" box in DLC
[*]Installed the "Divinity Engine 2" tool
[*]Directed the game data path to "./Steam/steamapps/common/Divinity Original Sin 2/Data"

Every time I try to open the editor, I get to the point where it says "Starting services" and it crashes, giving me the warning "Glasses has stopped working". A link to a screenshot is below.

I've tried changing the read-only permissions for the "Data" folder to no avail. I've reinstalled everything and restarted everything without any luck. I even tried installing the data folder contents with the Steam console and it still didn't work.

I've followed the steps for other solutions but none seem to work for my problem. Can anyone please help me with this issue? A big reason I bought the game was because I wanted to play around with the tools and it would be a shame if I was unable to.

Hey Golgenth,

just to be absolutely sure about the data path step, before we start looking at other possible reasons. Did you enter it manually, or set it with the file explorer?

On my end, the value is: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\Data\". Just want to make sure you have the full path, with the final "\" smile

Hi Kevin,

I reinstalled the engine again and made sure the path was definitely set to: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\Data\" but I am still having the same problem. I set the path through the explorer and added the "\" at the end of the path.

If you do it via the browser, then it's fine smile Also no need to add the \ there in that case, it will handle everything for you. You'll see the \ will be added in the editor configs later on. I was checking against that, but since it crashes on startup, you don't get that far. My apologies for the confusion.

And no, the Divine Ascension DLC is not needed. It doesn't make a difference.

Also, when reinstalling, after uninstalling through steam, it is best to delete the folder manually from Steam\steamapps\common. It often happens that Steam leaves files in that it thinks are not part of the installation, and that messes with any subsequent installation.

You setup at least looks fine. So let's look in the files to see if everything was installed correctly. Could you check for me if "C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Divinity Original Sin 2/Data/Public/Game/Assets/Materials/Editor/Gizmo_Lines.lsb" actually exists in your file system?

Hi Golgenth,

I have investigated the problem signature you have posted and your crash does not appear to be a missing data issue. Sadly I was unable to pinpoint the cause, but I suspect a missing or corrupt dll.

If your windows event viewer (start > "Event Viewer" > Windows Logs > Application) contains any more detailed information on the crash, or if your Divinity Engine 2 install folder contains any CrashDump (.dmp) files, that would be immensely helpful.

In the meantime, you can try running "Verify integrity of tool files" on the Divinity Engine 2 app in Steam, and re-installing vcredist 2013 and 2015 (x64), as well as .NET 3.5 and 4.0, though they are normally installed together with the editor.

"C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Divinity Original Sin 2/Data/Public/Game/Assets/Materials/Editor/Gizmo_Lines.lsb" does not exist in my system. In fact, I do not have a "Public" folder at all or anything within it.

Here is a picture of the contents of the contents of my DOS2/Data folder after having installed the engine and checked the box for the data in Steam:

I've uninstalled and reinstalled twice where I deleted both the DOS2 and engine folders in "steamapps/common".

The missing Gizmo_Lines.lsb error is not an issue. The file is in one of the .pak files and I get this error as well.

What OS are you using? Is it a 64 bit OS? Are there any .xml files in your editor's install directory, and if so, what are they?

I'm on 64-bit Windows 8.1.

There is one .xml file in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Divinity Engine 2" called config.xml, here are the contents:

apologies for the belated reply. We've been looking through all your information (thanks again for that, it's very complete and informative!) and haven't found an issue with your Engine setup.

Could you send us your pc specs (GPU, RAM, SSD/HDD) ? We'll try to setup a similar build (Windows 8.1 etc.) to see if we can find the issue that way.

The diagnostics files you send us says you're running Windows 10. But it's a diagnostic from September 2017. Did you downgrade back to 8.1?

The crashes reported at the end of the file are about game crashes, not editor. Are you still experiencing those as well?

That must not be the diagnosis that I sent then. I am running 8.1 and have been since I bought this computer and the diagnosis I sent was created 2/24/2018 (It says this in the "Time of this report"). The diagnosis file was called "DxDiag" and the person Raze has been communicating with is "wagebane".

Ah yes,

My bad. I found the right diag now.
There doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary with the setup, though.
We're still suspecting some essential installation file is missing/corrupt.

"Verify integrity" often doesn't do the trick completely, so I always suggest to:
1. uninstall both game (or at least the data dlc) and the engine
2. delete any remaining folders (very important to remove dangling files due to a bad install)
-- (\steamapps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\Data\Editor and \steamapps\common\The Divinity Engine 2)
3. reinstalling
4. ensure that vcredist 2013 and 2015 (x64), as well as .NET 3.5 and 4.0 are installed

There is nothing more specific I can suggest right now as we try to recreate the issue on our end.

We had no luck reproducing the issue.
While I keep the issue open for further investigation, I can't recommend any possible solution right now, except further attempting to alter the PC setup. E.g. switching to Win 10.

I have had the Exact same problem --- BUT --- I fixed this issue today.

I did NOT follow the instructions for entering the base game data folder location but instead entered the data folder location for the DefEd version

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\DefEd\Data\

And IT WORKED :)
