Has anyone checked this out? It is currently eating my brain...

Gonna wait for PC edition, won't be long anymore <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
Mass effect is an AWSOME game. I've got it on X360 and have loved every minute of it.
that's why i'm so sad that my X360 is out of order for almost 8 weeks now, but I'm guessing it has more to do with my TV... it's a good 12 year old TV and i'm guessing it's starting to die a bit.
So i'm gonna buy me a 22" TFT monitor (gonna buy a PC later this year) and hopefully i'll have image again.
What's "Mass Effect"? Can someone please give me a link <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />?
Thanks Alrik! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
or just google for "mass effect"... the internet is easy you know
Welcome back Viper, how do you like the Upgraded Forum?
it's nice, a bit getting used to but better than the previous one I think.
BTW I found mass effect on Wikipedia, and it seems pretty fun. I'll try to find it when it gets released...
it IS fun, I've finished it once last week and going on my 2nd 'tour of duty' now. this time a female 'evil' char
In that case I'll be sure to find it.
(Yay! 200 posts!)
only 200 ??
just kidding
it seems that on this forum of RPG lovers, we're the only 2 playing this game... well technically just me for now, while this is one of the best RPG's of the past year.
maybe not a lot of people have a 360 and are waiting for the PC version

I don't blame you, 200 is an insignificant number when matched up against 6,000! I mean, for you seeing me celebrate 200 is like me seeing somebody celebrate 7 posts!
I'm pretty sure there must be some more people out there waiting for the PC version, who knows, it could be a larger number than we think...
(we know at least jvb is one of them)
I didn't like Mass Effect when i tried it
-it lacked or should i say i expected more rpg elements
-combat ai was lacking (gears of war was better imho for ai)
and it was sorta like KOTR
btw just tring to save you money
assassins creed
i didn't like either maybe rent these games from a video rental store if you can or borrow them from a friend
assassins creed
-Extremely repetitive
-All the cities felt the same
-Missions were repetitive
-some goofy plot too
spiderman meets tombraider meets splinter cell
minus any good parts
Thanks for your concern, but I usually get my games from my friends anyway.
Different people have different opinions, thanks for sharing yours!
We had an XBox 360, but, I waited for the PC version of this game. I am not a very coordinated console gamer :P
I like the game. I actually played it several times already, trying different classes.
And speaking of posts....Um... I lurk a lot, but rarely post. I try to check the forums from time to time for news on Divinity 2.
i played it on xbox 360 ( original and bring down the sky dlc )
i thought it wall a cool typical bioware rpg with some nice fps additions
The PC version comes with SecuROM Internet Edition, IIRC, so you might want to get it on console if you can.
Also - welcome to the forum, Beastman
I loved mass effect one of my first rpgs. and has anyone seen the mass effect 2 trailer?
I TRIED looking at it, but the quality was so poor that I gave up.
i AM gonna buy it anyway though, i loved the first too much for it.
Started playing it on the PC but had to stop due to too much schoolwork.
Makes me really sad as it's an epic game.
Bought ME2 on X360 and I'm loving it very much. too bad I can't spend more time on it due to my 3 week old son
I won't buy it as long as it contains that activation stuff.
no activation stuff on the X360 Alrik... maybe you should consider an X360
Okay, but I'd have to buy that console first ...

Mass Effect 2 PC has been pretty awesome so far for me (some 24 hours in or so), I must say.
I'm glad ME2 PC only has Securom disc check - none of that crappy install-limit stuff.
I like the second game much better than the first... but it is now a shooter with RPG elements, rather than a RPG with shooter elements.
I LOVE ME2. I only hate the semi-obligatory scanning of the planets, so I made a list of what upgrades I still need, how many resources it'l cost me an how many I already have, that way I can stop scanning as soon as i have the necessary resources.
I'm now completing the loyalty missions, 1 more to go and than I only need to recruit tali, do her loyalty mission and I can go on. I'm also gonna do a lot of side missions first before continuing the main story.
I do want to finish it, cause there are new games (the saboteur on PS3, Forza 3 on X360 and Divinity 2 on PC) waiting for me and I've been playing it for almost 3 months now
I adore both Mass Effect titles for different reasons. I think the first one has a better overarching tale. However, I feel the second one has more "character" due to the great 'loyalty' missions.
I missed the planet exploration in Mass Effect 2. However, the level design was much better because it had more focus.
Combat is no contest. Mass Effect 2 just feels better, smoother, and more precise.
The planet scanning was my one huge gripe. It was too damn slow. Luckily, though, it has been patched up just recently.
yeah, now that I don't need to scan planets anymore it has been improved
i'm gonna see how it has been changed after I've finished the suicide mission. Almost done playing
Overall the game is great, planet scanning sucks but the rest is awesome. I hope to finish it tonight
yeah, I've played this morning until the final 'boss' battle.. man this is so cool, gonna finish it this evening.
Final 'boss' was the only time I fired the nuke launcher.
yeah, I took the wrong gun on that mission, so I had to do it with my SMG and heavy gun, but all in all it went quite good. I played on casual though, to keep the fun in it.
anyway, I finished the game yesterday, 2 months after I 1st started playing it. Loved every moment of it.
Now I've started playing the Saboteur on PS3.

Yeah. Plus, I suggest trying other alternative lines in the conversation.

SEMO
Toooooo bad i can"t play it
When I want ot install there is "saverun.dll" problem
Mass Effect is the best gaming series ever!!!
i have the second one and borrowed the 1st one twice, bedcause it was so awesome.
BTW, wat class do u guys usually play as? I'm always an infiltrator, just because i love sniping things (its safer and more kickass that way)
That final boss was creepy as hell. it literally made me sick to my stomach the first time i saw it, and fighting it was worse!!! i was still awesome enough to one-shot-kill it though...
Completed a mass effect 2 with all the DLCs over a month ago i think..
Ive even beaten Mass effect but that game was just meh ME 2 is much better.

To me, the story was better in ME1, gameplay was better In ME2
I have the orig Me1 and ME2. I have all the DLC from XBOX LIVE for both. I want to make sure I have all the latest in preps for ME3, and I'm looking into getting the GOTY of ME1.
Can anybody tell me if the GOTY has anything added or maybe better gameplay/textures from the orig?
PS: BTW, I went to the Bioware forum, and that was A FRIGGN' JOKE, NIGHTMARE and MENTALLY PAINFUL experience. That forum is filled with RAVING LOONS.
ME2-KUNG-FU FIGHTING
The Mass Effect games are good story based RPG's, I played the first game on the PC and enjoyed it but the mining on planets and searching for minerals was a tedious pain. They have improved this with the planet scanning in ME2 but this is starting to do my head in. I think I'm about a quarter into ME2 and liking it so far. The story in both games is well written with betrayals, plot twists etc and I like the idea of multiple endings which can be imported into the next game.
Cinco, yes the bioware forums are filled with idiots. I didn't even bother to sign up on them.
I've played through ME1 and ME2 several times, each time as a diff char (obviously) and the story changes with ea playthrough. I found the Mako to be a pain in the arse as well, while traveling and especially when it comes to Thrash Maws. I exit the Mako and take them out on foot. I have yet to kill ANYTHING, even Tuttets and Goliaths with it. You get like a gazillion more XPs from taking things out on foot anyway.
The storyline is pretty incredible. I find it amazingly similar to the ancient writings of the Sumerians. Which is probably where they got the inspiration for the story.
The trick with the make is to take the enemy down to a sliver of health then jump out and finish him
The trick with the make is to take the enemy down to a sliver of health then jump out and finish him
That's just it. It's to much of a pain in the butt to operate that stupid thing.
It's set like 300 yrs in the future, and were still driving around in a rover with a diesel engine and goodyear tires.
Besides, there is just something about taking out an acid spitting giant worm with a pistol, that says 'Get you sum o dat'. Plus the fact, that when you get the sniper rifle maxed out and loaded up with those high explosive rounds and two scram rails, it becomes a portable hand cannon in itself.
If I'm in an open area with little or no cover, then that's when the Mako becomes a barricade. Now for that, it's very useful.
It was satisfying to take one of those thresher maws out as they were a challenge. I remember using the Mako as a barricade once but it exploded, flew up into the air and landed on my head, lol.
What's everybody's issue with the MAKO?
Is it more difficult on the X-box or something? Works real easy on the PC.
And I already maxed out my XP rather fast even using the MAKO, so why bother for that?

Are you referring to a second playthrough? I didn't think it was even possible to reach lvl 60, with a new char in one playthrough. I have all the DLC, and even with careful managing and not using the Mako, I could only reach lvl 57.
it is impossible to get to 60 in one playthrough

I don't have an issue with it

Yeah that sniper rifle can only fire one shot before overheating :P
You can't fire the high powered sniper rifles more than 1.5-2 shots anyway. A sniper is far enough away, and behind cover, the 4 sec cooldown is an easy trade off.
I didn't have an issue with the Mako it was just the mining that was tedious. The Thresher Maws were very hard but not impossible to defeat. Using the Mako as cover does help but as I put in my previous post be careful it does not blow up and land on you.
I haven't had that happen yet. I used it like a barrier, mostly on the 'Bring Down The Sky' DLC, where you have those turrets in those collapsing barrels. I pulled the Mako in close enough to trigger them and jumped out. They blasted it for a half hour, it seemed, and it just sat there in a blaze.
EDIT: I assume you're on the PC, and that could possibly make a diff.
Yes, I was playing on the PC and the Mako was parked on a slope so that could be why. I did get strange things happen in places where the Mako would flip over or sometimes suddenly jump up if you tried to go up steep slopes or very rough terrain. Figured it was because I was trying to make it do something it could not handle. When the Thresher Maws hit you, it often threw the Mako around like a toy.
When I said it exploded, I guess I was exaggerating a little; it did not explode into several pieces, it just blew up into flames.
it is impossible to get to 60 in one playthrough
It may be possible with the BDtS DLC. In the second building (the one with the prox mines around it) the Rocket Drones from the second floor will respawn, as long as you leave an enemy or two alive on the ground floor.
EDIT: There is also a save/reload exploit where you step off the elevator during the rescue of Liara, but that could take a while.

I think that was the bigger prob I had with it. At first it was fun rock climbing in that thing, but the new wore off after the third planet. The scanning in ME2 makes it a little easier, but even that can be tedious after a while. But there has to be some type of exploration involved. I just think it should be done with a flying transport. A real flying trans, and not that hovercraft thing they tried came out with in ME2.

If you put 2 X Frictionless coils in it, there is no cooldown
If you put 2 X Frictionless coils in it, there is no cooldown
That is true. So I guess it could come down to total dam per # of rounds vs 1 high dmg round. It is rather fun to place an explosive shot @ there feet and vault some enemies 100 yds into the air.
I'm going to start a new char named Sonoura. Based on my current char from DKS. I will Goth out her looks out with pale complection, black hair and big black puffy Anji Jole lips. I will prob try the Adept build and take Sniper training as a bonus. I have tried other builds and the Vangard was the most fun, especially in ME2. I completed my last playthrough on insanity with him. Using a female char should change the story some as well. And of course take the Earthborn/Ruthless background and maximize the Renegade Bar to prompt Bad Girl dialog options.

I have tried the biotic builds but found them too cushy. Warrior is the only one for me. I like charging headfirst into fights. Rushing a husk, beating it down with melee, then blasting it is very satisfying.
My personal favorite is Sledgehammer rounds combined with an assualt rifle.
Yes, the Biotic build is weakened by the limit of armor, but once upgraded she will be able to have barrier activated 100% of the time, to offset that. Much the same way my Vangard had. In ME1 she will remain as such, because Sonoura is an evil sorceress anyway, and biotics is a sort of future spec for a mage. The biotics of ME1 are very powerful and only needs to contend with shields. In ME2 I might change her over to an engineer, because that class comes with a good selection of powers. Like AI Hak and the Combat Drone, which fits Sonoura as a summoning/charming character. Along with Dominate, as her bonus power.
Some people down play AI Hak and Dominate, as situational powers. I have sat and laughed myself into tears over using them both on enemies. But that was either playing as an Inftrat or using squadmates. Even on higher difficulties, once Maranda or whoever, strips one down to health. You can take out an entire platoon with the use of them both, and never fire a shot. All the while pissing my self with laughter. The sounds they make from turning one on the other keeps me in the floor.
As far as favorite weapon...I like them all for one reason or another. It would depend on the build, really. I guess for ME1, I would have to say the Sniper Rifle. Because I will choose it as a bonus weapon if I'm not playing as a Sldg or Inftr, so it is a 'must have' for me. Then I guess it would be the Assualt Rifle with Kinetic Coil and +X dam Orgn Rds/+X dam Synth Rds, pending on the enemy.
In ME2 my favorite weapon has to be the 'Locust SMG', without question. It is my main goto weapon with any build. But I use them all, pending. Now, my favorite HVY WEP is, above all, THE CANE!! That thing can take out almost any boss on any difficulty with one shot. The exception being, only a few on higher difficulty, like the Prath and Thras Maw.
Favortie heavy weapon for me has to be the Collector Particle beam. and I don't like the SMG because of the small ammo limit. The X71 Revenant is the only one for me.
IIRC, The Locust boast a 300+ clip, when fully upgraded...
It does't compare to the dam of the Rev, which is an awesome weapon in itself, but it is extremely accurate, and can rip through shlds and bars like greased lightning. It doesn't have the spread or rise of the other SMGs, which are junk BTW. IMO
In my last playthrough, as a Vangard,(CHARGE!!!) I opt for the assault rifle training on the collector ship, to have access to the Rev. It's ability to strip armor helped fill the gap of the Locust. Although, the Loc could take down armor, it just ate up a lot of your clip.
I liked the Part Beam on lower Difs. But once I had Insane unlocked, the PB couldn't deal enough dam, in a short enough time to prove useful, as a HW.
EDIT: I stated clip above, instead I meant ammo cap.
Here is a little voice acting trivia...
Your Com Shep ,
MARK MEER , is also the voice of The Withered, The Lost and The First from DA Awake.
I have expressed my ops on both the Mako and the Hmr Head. This is why the later bites...
Hammerhead Prototype

No sledgehammer rounds & shotgun while playing as the Vangaurd
@ SENIOR CINCO - The Hammerhead is rubbish I miss my Mako
Well the reason for the plot summery of no 1 at the beguining is because they released no 2 for the playstation 3 as well. Microsoft on the other hand owns the rights to Mass Effet 1 so that game will never be released on the PS3. The thing is in Mass Effect every choice you make effets the next game so anyone who's never played 1 can choose the choices the effect the main plot of the story of no 2 at the begining so that they can be able to play the game.
The way it works is the Choices in 1 effect 2 in both main plot & side quests & 2 effets 3 in the same way. So if you had'nt played 1 & you went out & bought 2 then you'd be more than a little buggered if they did'nt give you the option to choose the plot choices at the begining of 2. You would be forced to go out & buy 1 then you would end up running the risk of buying 2 games that you might end up hating & cursing yourself for wasting your money.
