I’m sorry, but I am tired of all of the anti-American sentiment that is going on here on this forum.

I could easily find bad things to say about any country on our earth, but I don’t; because, I’m just not like that.

People blaming America for everything, what’s the next thing?
America is responsible for the common cold.
Good grief.

Oh well, I know my words fall upon deaf ears here.

Good-bye

And to those who had real hearts I’ll miss you.

Take Care

I’m sorry, but I am tired of all of the anti-American sentiment that is going on here on this forum.

I was in vacation since Christmas and i just read a few topics since i am back.
I don't know what have been said about America.

I am french and i am proud to be french.
If one day someone would say some bad things about France, i would be angry and i would answer very badly to this person directly in the forum.
In the forum it is forbiden to flame a member and i think that it should be forbidden to flame a nation or a continent.

I understand that you are angry.
I hope that you will be back later in some days/some months when you will be less angry.

I haven't noticed any conversation lately about America. But then again I might have missed some topics. My opinion is well known in this forum. I am totaly oposite in war. At anyplace, anytime, anywhere. But I think that this is natural and it has nothing to do with forum members. What I am trying to say is that there is no need to have a war in this place. We can exchange ideas and tell each other what with think on some matters. Kira there is no need for you to leave. Even if there are people in here that do not like America I am sure that this is not something personal. Prove them wrong. Tell what you think. This is a place of peace. We are friends (even virual).

I have explained and I have loved, but some people just don't care. All they care about is their hatred for America.
Their thoughts are who gives a rip about anyone else.
That anyone else being me.

They blame America for not giving enough money.
So I guess America should give none.

They say America is only trying to make money from those hurt or passed on in the Tsunami, but it's really paticular individuals from America doing that.

I've seen plenty from the BBC and other countries doing the same exact thing, but oh no, don't think about them, lets just blame America and Hurt the feelings of people like me.

Who cares, Kyra_Ny is just one of those crummy Americans right?

And what really hurt the most is a couple of those who slammed America the hardest I called them my friend.

And leaving will do what? You will miss the pleasure of being is somewhere you like (or at least I hope so) and give those people the joy that they flamed you from here.

Look it is very usual in here to have conversations like this. And as you can realise yourself, there are so many people from many different coutries in here. It is simply impossible for everybody to agree. Remember what I have told you once? I told you that I do not like the way Americans vote. I mean I was sure that Bush (sp?) would not be your president again. But he is. Anyway I told you how I feel about that. You laughed. We talked. That is it. You know my opinion. I know yours. I respect it. You respect mine too. We are ok. Nothing more nothing less.
Think about it before you leave.
I would leave if someone from the forum members whom I respect and like, would insult me personaly. Give it a thought if you like please.

Isn't this a bit to...

No one is just blaming America.
I know some great people there. And I'm not the only one.
But you have to admit that American leaders made America very unpopular the latest years.
And those leaders also indulce in being "the biggest".
But when you're the biggest you're an easy target.

When ppl here talk about America they don't mean you or your fellow Americans. They mean America as nation. And your leaders.
I know what your upset about. And hey, I can say the same about Belgian leaders... French, Italian, German leaders.
But... 90% of the forummembers wouldn't know who I'm talking about.
Or do you know fi Guy Verhofstadt (or is it Verhofstad?)

I thought I made it perfectly clear in my rant on the tsunami that it was my hatred for the American government that drove me to write what I did.

If I didn't, then let me clarify it now. I hate the government, not the people. Well, I hate some of the people who elected Bush with a clear concience but that's another thing....
How the hell can I hate every American when I married one Kyra? Answer me this, please.

Why do I hate the actors/washed up celebs who dive in front of the camera? Because they've never suffered in their lives. Their greatest pain is a dry martini glass. That is what makes me angry.
I mean, people who play make believe for our amusement are telling us how much they 'feel' the suffering of a man who's lost his home, wife and kids??? C'mon! For god's sake!

Personally, I hate all governments equally. They all lie, they all abuse their power. Don't feel bad because I rag on the US government. They just seem to be annoying people the most lately. I'll criticise what I see to be wrong. Free speech.

If you want to take offence on behalf of your people Kyra be my guest. Its a big burden to bear if you ask me.

Oh well. My big mouth...

She didn't voted for Bush, dislikes the regime and all,...
But when we're talking about things like that and I (have to) say something unpleasant about USA...
She also takes it to personal.
Forgot all about the good things.
She can trash on Belgium and Belgian politics as much as she wants. I even agree.
And I never take it personal.

But the thing is that Americans are tought to be patriotic from birth. No matter if it's right or wrong... USA, USA, USA

Yes, I understand, but there are so many Americans who are taught to be respectful, honorable, kind, and considerate to their neighbors too.

Sadly, you never see us; because, the media never shows us to you.

For all of the 2, 3, or whatever number of American Jerks you see in your or other countries, there's at least 20 times more Americans who would beat the loving tar out of those Jerks if they thought they could get away with it to teach those Jerks some respect for others.

As I said, Sadly, you never see us; because, the media never shows us to you.

Or anti USA citizens.

USA is a country. You are a person. Don't get those two mixed up.

Hi Kyra

Sometimes some american people are not really nice with us.
They say that french people are dirty, they don't wash them everyday, they don't change their underwears and they smell.

Maybe it's right maybe it's wrong !

But the worse it is when they refused to buy french champagne because they did not agree with the politic of the President Chirac.

English people were not really nice with us too some time ago when France refused to get in the last Irak war.

And the autralian people were awful with us about the nuclear tests in the indian ocean a few years ago.

Anyway i still like a lot : Lews, Kyra, Flixerflax, Cleglaw, etc. from the USA.
I still like a lot Spick and Womble from England.
And i still like a lot MeaCulpa and HandEFood from Australia.

Dear Kyra,
Let me tell you one thing. I've met a few American people in my past and these are one of my favourite memories. You are not picked on aswell as your country. Everyone should be proud of were you came from and in every country there are bad and ignorant people. I did not really read anything like you said about America, but like Luc said, I too have been busy for a few days. But you should not let these things hurt you, don't let it chase you away from this forum, please, it's not worth it. You are a nice person and that is what counts on this forum. We have bad people too in Belgium like Dutroux and indeed our prime minister, Guy Verhofstadt, but are we Belgians hurt by things like that? Maybe we have a thicker skin, maybe we can laugh more about our people (we have a strange kind of humour ) But I'm sure that anyone who attacked America in words on this forum did not mean to be aggressive and will apologise. But you should concentrate on your new friends you've met on this forum, because we always will be there for you!!!

Kyra, please don`t leave!!
I don`t agree with Bush and his way of "leading America", but I`ve also got some friends in America you know. And from this I can tell you, the Americans I knwo are really lovely, warm-hearted people and I know you`re on of them like many other Americans, too.
Look, I`m German and there are many bad things in Germanys past, like Hitler and all the Nazi stuff. But I don`t caro about it at all, because its far in the past and I`m not guilty for the things that have happened there.
You should look at it the same way. A lot of people all around the world don`t agree with Bush, but it isn`t YOUR fault!!!
You aren`t responsible for what`s been going on in Iraq or anything else Bush did!!
You are just a wondeful, warm-hearted person living in the wonderful State of California. You should be proud of it!!!
I have never been to America myself, but when I`m a bit older than I am at the moment I know I will come to you!! I want to see my friends living near Boston and I want to get to know their friends and all the other people living in America!!!
America isn`t Bush or his government!! America is the people living there!!

Please Kyra, think about what I said, think about what all the others said. We all want you to stay.
I`m only 14, I don`t know much about the world. But I know, that you`re a really nice person and you shouldn`t be sad for something you aren`t responsible for.

Bye, Hap (liking Kyra really a lot and hoping she stays)

Don't forget that Americans don't always get along among eachother too.
Northern Americans told me they're nicer than sutheners and other way around.
Just like in Belgium, Canada, Italy, ....
No matter where you live, it's who you are that matters.

I think that there are really bad things going on in America. Which makes me sad as I used to love the country. But - as some others may have stated already (sorry, I don't have the time to read all posts) - this doesn't mean that every American is bad.

Well, I guess I understand you. I am German. And there are a lot of bad feelings against Germans. Well, some of the cliches are true, of course. But I am not like that and none of my friends or family are or have ever been. (I mean, we are neither Nazis nor do we spend our holidays hanging around just drinking and insulting our hosts...) Nevertheless those prejudices hurt me in a way.

But, please, stay. Whoever said anything bad about America probably did not mean you as a person. (And if he did it's him/her who should go.)

Hi Kyra!

I just found this thread and I believe I have to say something too.

Please always remind yourself that we are using only written language here. It is unlikely that one always understands posts in the way they were meant by thse who wrote them. If i feel offended I always try to figure out if the person really wanted to hurt me or my country.

On the other hand I can understand you perfectely. A few years ago I stayed in England for a month with a host family in Brighton and they asked me the following:

"Don´t you feel ashamed beeinig an Austrian because Hitler was Austrian?" This did make me angry in fact. However I stll write them letters from time to time and will visit them next time i come to England.

Anger is understandable but more necessary is forgiving.

Yours Bernhard

Reminds me of a Genesis song ... (Doesn't appear on any album, only on a single ("Land of Confusion") and on the second archive box.) It's called "feeding the ire" and goes like this . "you are feeding the fire you'll be roasted on" or something like that.

Anyway, I see that american compnies seem to act in a certain way - but the american citizens are those who are hit by the hatred, not the ompanies, which rather tend to block themselves from that.

As a result we see american citizens in the unpleasant state of being addressed by those who are unsatified (to say it rather mildly) with the government or with compabnies, and that, although these cizizans cannot do anything against it - or so it seems to me.

If the government and the companies wouldn't be so blind and blocked, they could change their behaviour easily for a better world. But in fact they - government and companies - act towards non-u.s. citizens like they have a heart of stone.

It's rather a problem of society, imho.

That's my very personal impression, highly subjective, and therefore possibly wrong.

Quote
When ppl here talk about America they don't mean you or your fellow Americans. They mean America as nation. And your leaders.

Quote
If I didn't, then let me clarify it now. I hate the government, not the people.

And you really do have to realise that a lot of the world thinks anti USA these days.
But what you have to realise even more is that that doesn't mean anti Kyra.
Or anti USA citizens.

USA is a country. You are a person. Don't get those two mixed up.

Quote
Yes, I understand, but there are so many Americans who are taught to be respectful, honorable, kind, and considerate to their neighbors too.

Sadly, you never see us; because, the media never shows us to you.

They aren't blind Alrik.
They just don't care.
Rather one $ in the pocket than one life saved.

They see the same things as we do daily. They just look upon it differently. What we see as people being in pain and mysery, they see as oportunity.
They see desperate people who will do anything for some food or some money. And they will take adventage of that.
(There are already reports of ppl selling children in order to buy food for the rest of the family in South-East Asia.)
They see extremely cheap labor forces.

They just don't care...

Since the danger of looseing Kyra seems to be over, tellinjg my oppinnion and try to get her back seems rather pointless, but anyway...

Where were I? It's getting late... I don't like America. I don't like your society, your system. You're the only great power in the world (and the only country exept Sweden I know the name of the president in...), and your goverment isn't doing much right. But all the americans I've spoken to, I've liked. I think this has a lot to do tith the picture preseented py the media here in Sweden. You only see the a-holes, never the good pepole. It's pretty easy for me to sit over here in Sweden and say "America sucks", and it probably do, but I'm not shure it's really true in all aspects, but yet I say it. Because it's probably true, and I think it makes my life easier to know I don't live in the whorst country in the world. (This doesn't mean USA is the whorst country in the world!)

PS in the beginning I was about to apologize, but I am glad it happened in a thread I havn't read (it's not my fault). In case I ever say anything that offends anyone, that is never really my meaning. I'm pretty unexperienced (17 years old), so I probably do a lot of mistakes out of ignorance which I can't really do anything about. But if I ever say anything that hurts anybody, have this in mind (and prehaps point it out for me (IN A NICE WAY!!!) so I don't do it again) DS

I just ignore it, and concentrate on all the nice people. Mostly, its a good forum, kind. But lots of people get sort of angry around Christmas time, all the conflicts between Athiests, Christians, Jews, Muslims, etc ( sorry if I missed you ).

People just act stupid and forget what they are saying.

Maybe you right Kyra_ny, maybe it's because you are living in the country, but i believe all that opinion(bad the most part of time) about your country is because the USA scroll up with the other countries, i for example, i hate when i read at newspaper a lot times per year many notices of interferences of USA into the other countries about many things: politic, religion, comerce and etc...
I believe that's a good reason to talk bad about USA, what USA has to do with Sadan Hussein was doing in his country? And all notices talking that bush invaded the country cause of a big lie about chemical weapons, and the politic victory? At my eyes and of many people that victory wasn't fair and we have many reasons to believe that.

It's hard to talk about other country when you're not living there, but with the globalization is more easy to have an opinion about. Please don't be angry with what i said but is how i understood the facts what happened there.

Do you realise that by "USA" you might mean "certain people of power within USA"?

I haven't met many Americans. On backpacker I met was a complete bull-[nocando] artist. On the other hand, my aunt's family is American and they're great (and not just because they are family). I've made American friends on this and other forums and find little difference between them and local friends. I've also met a lot of not-so-nice Americans on the 'Net and I ignore them like I would someone here.

America is a different culture. It is so frequently exposed that we all feel informed enough to make opinions. Of course, we only see the exciting bits...
Posted By: LewsTherinKinslayer13 Re: I'm sorry - 05/01/05 07:00 AM
Hey, most people on the forums for a while have been seeing just a few of us Americans here.

Mslynx, Fliverflax, Cleglaw, Myself. Sorry if I missed any.

But really, when you think about it, Mslynx has been really busy latly ( she said HI ) FLiverflax hasn't been seen around recently, and people still think of me as a jackass. Leaving just Cleglaw around here to be the good american. We recently have been real lucky with some newer members from america, like you kyra, being really cool. But alot of the old people here still remember what is thought of as the typical american... johnson. Now lets skip over that.

Then with all this tsunami stuff, countries calling each other stingy and all, it makes Americans look bad. Have you seen how a huge amount of american sites has a link to the red cross on its front page? Its amazing, yet people call us stingy? So then we American's get upset, in chatrooms, in online forums, in real life. So people start arguing. People think American's are bad then.

People always think of how a country is just because of its leader. Look in the past. If at my school I said, hey remember ( lets just say there was a war leader who conquered the world called Paul [ I glanced at a book illustrated by Paul Kidby] ) Paul? { Say he's from Hero ( a european counrtry, in this make believe world ) } Someone would say, man, those Heroens, they're always so blood thirsty and trying to take over the world.

ITS BLOODY ANNOYING BEING THOUGHT OF AS A IDIOT BECAUSE OF OUR PRESIDENT.

There, I said it. * whistles * I feel better already.

So be nice to us everyone, I've seen this exact same thing happening on other forums, but there its the Europeans being the minority. And the Americans fighting between themselves.

Thank you all.

A bit of Knowledge I’ll pass on to you about the Red Cross.

The Red Cross is 90% funded by the contributions made to it by giving individuals.
The reason why the Red Cross advertises itself so much after disasters is so it will have hopefully sufficient funds to supply relief to those in need the next disaster that may pop up.
Now that may seem very bad to you making money off of other peoples hurt and sorry, but let’s step back for a moment.
The Red Cross is NOT a for profit organization like businesses are.
Its sole purpose is to provide AID to those in need.
ALSO, keep in mind, how many people dig into their pocket books, purses, hand bags, and wallets when there is no need or post disaster. Basically, only 2% to 3% of our earth donates funds to help others in need when there is no crisis.
Because of this that has forced the Red Cross to advertise for Donations to prepare for the next crisis.
Sadly it is really we as Earthlings that causes the Red Cross and many, many other AID giving organizations to follow this practice.

I’m just glad all of those AID giving organizations exist.

It's really hard not to have any prejudices. At all. Take this in contrast to propaganda (hope that's not Swenglish... No it wasn't) who I know cant give you oppinnions, it can only strenghten or weaken your oppinnions.

Now, we know that the picture of America given to us by the media isn't a very nice picture. And I guess that somewhere deep inside you have some kind of idea of what an American is like, and I know I have an idea of what America in general is like. And the picture given to me by the media (who here serves as propaganda) only strenghten this picture. So I don't like America. And before I came here, the only Americans I've spoken to is a person from Warrensburg university (or prehaps it was high school... I think it was...) which whom I was supposed to exchange e-mails. I think we excheanged four or five letter, the it was completelly blank... So, before I came here, I had had allmost none contact with ordinary pepole. I had only my prejudices strenghtened by the medias. I'm proud I didn't have any prejudices about the pepole here when I found out they where americans though (more that they're probably nice...), so really, it's only the country it self I don't like and have a certain idea of. Maybe I'll be different if I ever meet an american. Now I don't get to see you, I can only read what you've written. As said, it's hard not to have any prejudices. I try not to, I try to keep myself open, if I see pepole from other cultures I try to tell myself: I don't know them so I can't expect anything from them. They're probably allright. But I don't really know... If I see someone from another culture and I think badly thoughts of him I hate myself, because I don't whant to have any prejudices, other than nice ones. It feels really stupid to unlike someone you don't know only because of what you think of him, but somethimes that's what I do. And I have no idea of whet to do about it...

All it takes is just one drink and you're back into that disastrous cycle all over again.

Dear Bernhard,
People who says things like that are ingnorant and stupid. Hitler happens to be an Austrian, so what? You can't help it, he could be born in Belgium or in France or even in America or England! That does not make a whole nation bad. We have a man in politics, his name is Filip Dewinter. In Austria, you had Jörg Haider, everywere there are people who have the brain the size of a guinea pig. Ignore those people, you would be much happier. No one deserves to be punished for the actions of another person. You are only responsable for what you did. If you hurt someone, your neighbour is not the one who should be punished right?
I have a few motto's: 1st Whatever makes you happy: Do what you wanna do, be gay or straight, be weird or dumb but be yourself, never go into extremes
2nd Stupid is who stupid does: You and you alone are responsable for what you did, never blame someone else.

Just one final opinion about those "bad Americans" I hope no one is forgaotten about those who came here on D-day and saved us from the Nazi's. And to think about that they never heard about a "concentrationcamp"!
No offence to any Germans, Austrians and anyone else of course, but without our American, English and Australian G.I.'s we would still be under Nazi-dictation and I would probably not be here because I'm a bit of everything (Spanish, Hungarian, German, French etc...)
I often walk on the beautiful American graveyards in West-Vlaanderen, where all the fallen are buried and I feel the spirits of them and it fills my heart with gratitude and pride. Thank you America, Thank you England, Thank you Australia, Thank you Canada and Everyone else that I have forgot to mention!
Now I hope we can close this and go on with our lives!!

In this way i say the same like You Galadriel.
Because the Allied, and at first the American Nation, make a good thing as they stop Hitler and Nazigerman.
They make the World a better Place.
And after that, they rebuild Germany to the Country it is now.
For that i can say Thank you America

But now? I dont think that the reasons for this two Gulf war are the same like in the second World War.
Sure, without Saddam is the World a better place.
But if i look at the Iraq now, i think that the People in this Country had a better life before.

And what will see the World.

A Man like Bush.

I see always the moment his Advisor came to him in this school and told was happend at the 9.11.
And then, nothing. five or six minutes nothing.

Ok, at last he is a normal Human and he is surely shocked, maybe paralyzed., and this reaction is still normal.
I`ve been shocked too.
I remember i, and my girlfriend, had this Day free, and we see it in the News.

But i think in this Time a Country need the Leader, so his Advisor had normally wake him up, bring him in action back.
But there was nothing of this, and so i think they don`t need Bush.
They don`t need him , and everybody can see it.
And many Vote for him again.
And this is the point i cannot understand this people.
This has nothing to do with international Politic, and i know (and in Germany it is not better) most people look first at her own Country stay good.
But they Vote for him again.
I can`t understand this. And i think this makes the World not better.
For this i cant say thank you, surely not.

Once, I even heard someone blame America for there not being a patch for Divine Divinity.

Lews
Are you sure that American people did not steal the Divine Divinity patch ?

Well, I don't know, we might have just wanted to keep it to ourselves!

I believe that's a good reason to talk bad about USA

Do you realise that by "USA" you might mean "certain people of power within USA"?

I haven't met many Americans. On backpacker I met was a complete bull-[nocando] artist. On the other hand, my aunt's family is American and they're great (and not just because they are family). I've made American friends on this and other forums and find little difference between them and local friends. I've also met a lot of not-so-nice Americans on the 'Net and I ignore them like I would someone here.

America is a different culture. It is so frequently exposed that we all feel informed enough to make opinions. Of course, we only see the exciting bits...

You don't understood me Hand, i said is a good reason when your country is affected by the USA actions, like here in many negotiations and agreements between countries, if Brasil or other country don't do that or this, USA say: out of my way i'll do it alone" the war is a good example, understood now?

I don't hate american people, au contraire i like a lot of some people here of the forum what are americans. I'm american, from the south but i'm american.

I don't want to create any confusion here or bring the chaos. I just think if we are from different countries we should keep talking about the good side(like we always do), the bad side everyone knows about it(and many times these bad things are lies what people believe). Isn't bad talk about the bad side, we have to talk about it to find a solution, but our resolution(of the people here) i believe is already made(we choose to be friends). That's what i believe.

Kyra i'm sorry for what i said before, i don't want anyone going out of here just cause of a discussion what will not solve anything, even if would solve, my english isn't that good but i believe you can understand me.

Why we don't forget this and move on?

That's is true, Stone. But I hope I reach everybody with this message: "One swallow doesn't make the spring". I'm not sure if I translate this one well enough, but what I mean is : If one person sucks, doesn't mean the whole country sucks.

Isn't: "One swallow doesn't make the spring alone"?
You're right if one sucks, doesn't mean the whole country sucks.
So let's be cool.

Yeah, whatever, if everyone get's the point, it's ok. But thanks anyway for pointing that out.
The worlds excists for 15 to 20% of jurks, 5% of angels and Samaritans and all the rest are in between.
It's up to you what path you choose.

It all depends on the culture you are around at the time.
Some countries restaurants like tipping the waiters and waitresses, but others consider it a major insult to tip them.
Those who tipped in those countries would have been seen as jerks, but in reality they were being real nice. Ignorance of the countries culture was really to blame.

I'm not coming down on you.
I understand what you are saying here.
I only wanted to expand the thought.
