In my patch 7 playthrough... I don't really know why but Halsin escaped without any help.

I get into the goblins camp and killed Gut... Then I went to the underdark and did something else for a while... After a few hours back to the goblins camp...
Gale has been arrested so I saw Halsin in his cage.

I escaped and regroup my companions, I killed Minthara and the hobgoblin... But when I entered the jail everyone but 1 goblin were dead and Halsin had escaped.

Back at the grove, he acted exactly like he usually do when I free him and talk with him... He thanks me, say that he'll help me with my tadpole (how could he know ?) and so on...
A bit wierd.

I sided with Minthara and ignored Halsin (didn't enter the prison at all) and the night after the goblin party, Halsin showed up at my camp being all friendly and pledging to help me with my tadpole too.
