If I didn't pick up the coal from Fergus's chamber is there somewhere else I can get it?

As far as I know nope, there is no other place that you can find coal. And it is very important for your escape from Citadel. If you can please get back and take it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

Are there any shortcuts back down?

Just by using the staircase from the citadel back down, until you're in the starting level.

Sharpshooter => as you wish. One quest will fail, they exclude each other. As soon as you have talked to Rupert - you have "losing soldier" and "champion".
Talk to the imp there (Vadorix) and threaten him. Then you can go to Rupert (12744 XP, rep +1 - 500 gp) or to the champion (13824 XP, rep -1 - 1000 gp)
