After trying the trick where you open more than one instance of BG3 in order to get custom companions, my single-player companions are all nerfed.

They still follow and fight, but they can't pick anything up. I can Inspect them but have no access to their inventory, build or spell panels. So I can't manage their gear.

I have the game installed through Steam. I've deleted it through Steam, then found the Larian folder under AppData and deleted it, then done a registry clean. When I reinstalled BG3, the problem persisted.

So I went back and made sure that all the mods and mod managers I used for the last patch were really and truly gone. Then I deleted EVERYTHING Larian under Steam, and the Documents Larian folder, and the Appdata Larian folder. Then used regedit to make sure there weren't any ghosts left in the registry. Then rebooted and reinstalled BG3 on a different drive.

Started a new game under a new profile. Companions still nerfed.

Any ideas?

Thanks. I would have either given up on the game or kept trying to fix it until I broke the registry. I tried to look it up, but wasn't using the same terms as the rest of you.

I misread the original post at first and thought the custom party members had gotten nerfed. That would have upset me greatly. The single player NPC characters being nerfed doesn't bother me because I kill them all on sight anyway (just because of their ridiculously immersion breaking background stories). I just hope that, IF I ever get the game working again, there will be a way of safely doing this to Gale (avoiding triggering his intro is annoying).
