So I started a Hardcore game... doing a hero mage/ DK warrior. Interesting differences. You don't start off with a skill point. Keep getting my [nocando] kicked by Fargus too. DOesn't seem to be many healing potions or something. Any idea how to survive on this difficulty?

Ok... Fergus is really beginning to irritate me, he should'nt be allowed to have the healing spell. I get him down to almost dead, he heals, and he's back at full health. I have no idea how to kill this guy.

The suggestions here should help, though he is tougher on hardcore;

Killing Fergus

Bah, maybe i should just start a new game. I only found 2 healing potions. No mana potions at all. Does a little Speed really make a difference?

There is a healing potion in the cell just east of Edmond's cell, one in the NW corner of the room with the talking skull, and you can get another for convincing Edmond he is dead. Barrels have a chance to contain potions, and you can quicksave before hitting alt or running your mouse cursor over them, then quick load until you get something good.

I found speed made a difference; the slower you are the more times Fergus gets to hit you before you can hit back. Other people have boosted strength almost exclusively, for the damage bonus.

I found him a LOT easier on hardcore since I was a higher level - it made a difference. Those extra rats got me to level 3 if I killed everything that moved before going after him.

Don't forget to pick up the dagger (probably better than any weapon your hero has) at the start of the fight. Also run over to the picture and click on it to open the way to a free refill of both hit points and mana. Have your DK keep his attention (presumably has better armor class at this point) until badly hurt then switch to the hero - when both are badly hurt the hit point refill will get them both up to full hit points. In hardcore mode I didn't need a single potion and I was having two mages (strength 1) melee him.

Reality is for those who cannot cope with fantasy. Fortunately, I can cope quite well.
