If you're like me you will save scum a lot because you're weak... However, a part of me would love to have that temptation taken away so I can enjoy what it feels like to fail in a video game just like I do in real life. Iron-man modes in games that basically gives the game permadeath for you and/or your companions... it's not for me, personally but I do see the appeal. That said, an iron-man mode just for the dialogue choices you make in the game, so as soon as you roll that dice and see the number, an automatic save will occur on your one and only save file. Good idea? Has this already been talked about at all?

Well Larian did mention in the first phases " We want to make sure failing is fun " etc etc and about getting closer to P&P. Which would mean ironman mode is kinda a logical step. Mostly guesses as it was never confirmed by Larian as far as I'm aware.

But ngl if they include ironman it will most likely include combat.

That was phrased beautifully. I just had to repeat it.

In all probability we will eventually reach the end of the game, and achieve some kind of success. But successes will taste all the sweeter if they are achieved despite bad luck, defeats, and wrong choices, instead of being based on optimization of decisions. So I would welcome different kinds of iron man mode.

As long as it's an option and not the standard gameplay, ironman modes are fine with me.

But I personally would not like Ironman mode in BG3 unless they reworked encounters, implemented a more balanced gameplay, better 5e interpretation, etc.

Ironman mode right now with the game as is would frustrate me.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 had a similar feature where quitting a match before the end resulted in an automatic forfeit being saved to the only available slot. The danger involved made comebacks from behind all the sweeter.

Virion makes a good point about Larian wanting players to embrace failure. My guess is some kind of ironman mode will being included at some point. At the same time, Larian don’t really mind players abusing their systems, so it may not be a priority. I’d put ironman mode in the “comes out with enhanced edition” pile.

Hmmm... I guess if there's a mode which limits you to one save slot and auto-saves after dialogue finishes, but does NOT delete itself with a game over from dying, that should not be much more difficult to implement compared to an Iron Man mode which does delete itself.

If it was optional that would be a great idea. Generally though, I am not a fan of games that do not allow me to save or save for me at odd places. I'm often on limited playtime with my schedule so being able to save at my leisure is preferred. But I also really enjoy reloading and playing parts again, especially with dialogue, to see how differently they turn out, so it wouldn't be my cup of tea.
And I hate permadeath. It again would be great as an option for those that do enjoy it, but dying a ton and then having to restart new after every time is not appealing to me. I keep thinking of Blood Borne and I grew to loathe that game for this reason.
