In perfect world we would get ...
At least one typical outfit for our race (and i would not be affraid to get a little wild here ... for example if Dwarf get racial proficiency in Medium Armor, their raical outfit will be medium armor), at least one typical outfit for our class, at least one typical outfit for our background, and some generic stuff we will find later in game anyway.
Obviously option to pick any generic non-magical weapon for starters ... i mean who say that my Cleric cant travel the world with Trident even tho he is not profficient? :P
And option to change colors.
(Based on talking with Chubblot, some armor colores can be changed directly in code, by changing its value ... so it IS possible without creating whole new models! So ... maybe they are / were working on this?)
Also, in perfect world we would be able to strip any and every armor from any and every NPC.

---
So far at least Druids, Sorcerers, Bards and Barbarians have their "typical outfit" ...
While Fighters, Rangers, Rogues, Clerics, Warlocks and Wizards start in generic shits ...
If at least this would change in final release, and every class gets some own armor that would clearly distinguish them from any others ... i would be honestly quite happy. :-/

BTW a little offtopic, but not as much since it is still about appearance.
Did you notice those Duergar outfits? They are beautifull arent they?

And that is the problem.

Since (and feel free to corect me) one of main aspects of Duergar crafting is that it lacks any decoration ... Duergars of course DO craft ... arms, armors, clothing, all those things ... its in their blood, they are Dwarves after all ... but their prolonged exposion to Mind Flayer influence somehow "erased" their creativity, so all their arms, armors, clothing, cities and basicaly everything and anything Duergar create is SUPPOSED to be kinda hollow, purely practical, without any decorations ...
