Apologies if this has already been proposed, but our companions list is a bit... tall. Can we get some short companions to join the party?
If I make a short character it feels so incredibly out-of-place for the majority of the game that's available to us at this point - solely because the entire rest of your crew is twice your height. Sure there's dwarves in the Underdark and goblins infesting every stretch of land around the forest and our token halfling and dwarf druids, but nobody who really sticks around for any significant amount of time. We do get the one Deep Gnome but we can't bring him out and about with us (and he wouldn't want to go anyway, I bet).

Companions are going to lack in diversity based on the direction Larian is going. We have 12 classes and 9 races in the PHB. Larian seems to be going in the direction of 8 companions, based on what I've heard (though I hope I am wrong). Of those 8, we have 2 humans, 1 half-elf, 1 elf, and 1 githyanki. In my opinion, there should either be 1 companion for every race, or 1 companion for every class, so we have good customization of party without sacrificing major options for no good reason.

Yeah I'd be fine with this honestly, although not feeling like my character is someone's child they had to bring along cause they couldn't find a babysitter would be great too. After the initial post I thought about the romantic options and I feel like my halfling shouldn't be forced into a relationship with someone they can't even be on eye-level with - or nobody. Unless that's their thing, I guess. No shame.

Yeah, I've certainly noticed. I was hoping (perhaps in vain) that this thread might put the idea on their radar, particularly with the recent addition of Gnomes.

Not having a companion for every race or class is a real self-undermining move with respect to the origin system as well, along with the prior concerns about party customization.

I don't think this is such a problem at all, the races are all represented through npc appearance in the game. The main enemies you play against are goblins and forcing specific races just to diversify for just that seems...wrong (I cant think of a good word for it). Ya, I can't imagine one of the npcs we have now getting swapped to a dwarf/gnome/halfling just because we don't have one is just plain dumb imo.

Definitely not what I was asking for. That would be silly. But having some more companions (which we're pretty sure we'll get) and having at least one of them be of a small race would not be amiss.

Edit:
And while your opinion is freely your own, I personally do feel it is a problem when certain races are only NPCs. It gives them a sense of "otherness," for lack of a better word. This makes them feel like, well, inconsequential NPCs rather than a fully incorporated race - and for me this feeling then extends to any character I desire to make of that race. Having a companion who you get to know a little better than your rando NPC makes the world seem a little more complete when I play a game.
This doesn't really extend to monstrous races who wouldn't make any sense to be running around with all the other player races, so goblins and ogres are fine as-is.

I would like to recall that the companion that uses the same VA as the narrator from DoS2 is supposed to be a dwarf...

A female dwarf would be amazing! But I guess a gnome/halfling lady would be fine too. c:
