I would like to see the ability to create a custom race in the game using the existing racial bits and pieces.

Desired features:
Pick a body type based on existing races and select your visual look.
Select racial traits from a pool of existing racial traits.
Write your own description of racial lore (flavor).
Select race-based tags based on the existing races to guide social interactions for NPCs and determine racial bonuses.
Define labels for your race that will be used by NPCs when referring to your custom race.

Since they mostly had plans for using PHB stuff, I doubt it. And let's be honest... stuff like that would be pretty powerful in multiplayer.
It also fits better in some custom/homebrew settings than it does in Faerûn...

I know many people have issues with the custom lineage option, but it's a level of customisation that some people really want and appreciate.

I'm not sure the custom lineage would be overpowered for multiplayer, as the actual custom lineage is rather thin in terms of features.
Quote
Creature type. You are a humanoid. You determine your appearance and whether you resemble any of your kin.
Size. You are Small or Medium (your choice).
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Ability Score Increase. One ability score of your choice increases by 2.
Feat. You gain one feat of your choice for which you qualify.
Variable Trait. You gain one of the following options of your choice:
- Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.
- Proficiency in one skill of your choice.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language that you and your DM agree is appropriate for your character.

It's on about the same level as Variant Human, not the most powerful, but the feat allows for a level of specialsation that can make you feel powerful in the early levels.

Basically yeah. I know it would be pretty challenging to get anything near as flexible as tabletop, but I think the building blocks for something I described are mostly there. I knew this sort of lore building and tools were available post-launch in DOS 2, so perhaps we will get it via mods. Still, I think it would be a massive boon to the tabletop community to offer the tools to easily craft your origin character with the building blocks they've already set up.

I understand and respect that, but at that point, it's just putting an option in the multiplayer settings to disable allowing custom races in your session. The people who want it can play with it; those who don't can keep it out of their stories—that simple.
