Hey,

Just bought the game today and it installed fine. But when I run it, it locks up.

When I click the little arrows to change my appearance, it simply freezes the mouse, and after about 10 seconds, the sound loops, and I've got to do a cold boot. This happens with every menu, no rhyme or reason or method, as far as I can tell. I can change my hair forward and backward one time, and it locks on hair color. The next time I go to change my hair, and it locks.

Rather annoying. I'd rather not have to take this game back; most of my friends are out of town or working more than me this summer.

I am on 1.44, the latest DX, and I have the current video drivers. My computer:

Thanks for your help.

Sully.

Did you make sure you killed any virus protection on install?

Do you have the latest service pack and critical updates for Windows? Lady_Rain describes an MS patch for video related problems in the topic CRASHING TO WINDOWS.

Someone had a problem with the demo crashing after the character creation screen, but switching the desktop colour depth to 16 bit fixed that.

A couple people have had problems with laptops. If you search the forum there may be some additional suggestions.

Thanks for the link. 16 color , or 16 bit?

Gonna try that link above as well.

I reinstalled with norton off, oops

Now I can create a character, but when I get in game, same problem.

I'm more than pleasantly suprised with the response here!

16 bit is also called high colour, though both terms should be listed in the Windows display properties (32 bit is called true colour).

Sully, I'm having exactly the same problem with a new computer -- I've written to Larian's tech support twice, and they've never responded. I finally ended up installing/playing the game on a laptop. Do you have a Diamond Stealth video card? I suspect that could be the problem...
