First I want to say the game is absolutely wonderful, and even in early access it's already among my most played games ever.
With that out of the way I want to add a suggestion for the reaction system and I guess this is a good place for that. however I'm sure that whatever Larian eventually decide on will work great.

So here's the Idea:

when an enemy does something that can trigger a reaction from you, you have a grace window of let's say 0.5s,
during which you can press a reaction key (spacebar seems like a good fit).

When you press the reaction key you either:
-Take a reaction if you only have one reaction turned on for that scenario (basically how it works at the moment, just activated by player input).
-A pop up shows up that asks you which reaction to take.

I'd be happy to hear your thoughts.

I can see players spamming the key and reacting to the wrong thing...

Not my wish but a better implementation would display a popup with a series of reactin button and 5 sec progress bar to trigger rather than key smashing

I don't think a turn based game should have a reflex based time-sensitive feature when it's not your turn. Combat sometimes takes really long and at least my attention is easily diverted elsewhere on enemy turns. And I don't want to be forced to stay passively alert on all enemy turns either.

Hard pass from me ...
Said it thousand times and will keep saying it, this game is TURN based ... whole game is build on premise that you have as much time to decide what are you going to do as much you need ... THAT premise should remain intact through all aspects of the game.

Time-based events shouldn't be present in a TB game, let alone in the specific TB combat mode we'd be in. I'd be fine if this was an option for groups that wanted to encourage fast play and decision making, but the default should be that the game pauses until you give it input.

The UI related to your suggestion isn't bad. The "Press Space bar to get more information about and/or choose between your available reactions." It's potentially more friendly than a big pop-up window showing up in the middle of the screen. "Tab" or "Backspace" could be the buttons to ignore the reaction and continue combat.

Yeah. We discussed this and especially with the camera hopping around so chaotic it would be a nightmare.

Best to have either prompts or presets or a mixture of both.
