If I send camp supplies to camp. When I rest, shouldn't they be used w/o me having to go to the crate and get them out first?

Nope.

Personaly i highly doubt that we "are supposed" to send all our food in camp ... since that alone kinda logicaly negates all reasons for food to have some weight in the first place ...
If we would also pick it automaticly, Larian could remove it from the game completely, since it would have no purpose at all.

Its funny how often people concider this often used exploit as QoL improvement tho. laugh

If we can magically send supplies to camp, then we should also be able to magically take supplies from the camp chest. This remains true if your interpretation of "send to camp" is a QoL "characters are actually walking back to camp, depositing supplies, and then returning to where they were; we just skip needing to watch all of that."

Food having weight only makes sense if we ever are unable to return to camp and need to long rest (and thus eat) while exploring. Otherwise, I'm in total favor of eliminating food's weight, the need to manually take it out of the chest, and/or food entirely.

Agreed. As it is, it literally only serves as tediousness - having to manage it in your inventory and/or remove it from the stash in order to long rest.

Well in that case, maybe it would be better to revive one old suggestion:
Remove food items as they are completely and simply turn Camp Suplies into curency represented by number in top right corner of our inventory.

OR even easier ... simply allow to sleep for free as it was in the early builds.
Its not like there would be any real difference anyway.

If the current camp system remains as it is, the obvious feature would be to make food fill directly from the chest if we choose to full rest.

Picking food up is just an inconvenience as far as I see it, which is a minor part of a reason why I exclusively only partially rest in all my playthroughs.

I’ll say here what I think I’ve said in response to a similar thread before, which is that I quite like the - ahem - flavour that food for resting gives the game, so hope it doesn’t get replaced by bland camping supplies (I’d be happy if supply packs were removed) or done away with entirely. But it’s quite reasonable to build up a stash of food in your camp whether you “cheated” to send it there or manually put it there after you’ve had a good day’s scavenging. And given the traveller’s chest is right there in the camp, it’s just make-work to force players to go to the chest, find the supplies they want there, carry them back to the bedrolls and select the food again. Plus it disincentivises (currently) pointless but potentially fun things like selecting specific food/drink for your meal rather than just grabbing what you find first in your chest.

I do have a lot of sympathy with the a argument that, as it stands, food for resting is pretty much pointless already. But I don’t mind the odd pointless mechanism that nevertheless helps bring the world to life, as long as it’s not unreasonably fiddly.

Or perhaps Larian will build on the food mechanic and make it much more meaningful. That’s certainly not a priority for me, but I wouldn’t mind.

Food should eventually ONLY be craft ressources to create meals that gives you small bonuses for a day while supply packs should be NECESSARY to long rest.

If they don't change the system... better remove it entirely.
Having to eat doesnt make the world feel alive at all to me... it is (currently) a (useless) gameplay mechanic, not a cosmetic one.

It would be a shame not to improve the system as a whole and simply allowing players to take food automatically from the chest would just make the entire system even less meaningfull.

"We have decided that you should eat food but there are food everywhere and you can magically teleport it and magically take it from the chest ! We've created a mechanic that's so easy to manage that you should not be annoyed too much ! You'd just have to make a few more clicks... hope you'll enjoy because eating in video games for the sake of it is so cool !"
