On first read, this might seems like asking for something game-breaking or complicated. But no.
It would be pretty realistic to ask someone else in the party to have a look at it.
Not only it's
something that could happens IRL when playing DnD (PnP), but
Larian Studios has done it before with DOS2 were companions with "Loremaster" points would share their knowledge with other party members.

This doesn't need to be a fully rendered interaction. It could be somewhat like what's been done with DOS2.
It would not make sense to apply this everywhere though! For instance,
this can't work when the active character is trying to persuade someone (whether using their charisma or knowledge) or is the one performing a certain deed during a conversation (ie: playing an instrument or trying to react quickly to something).
It would be
only when inspecting the environment or objects during conversation/cutscenes.
For example :
- reading the Book of Dead Gods (in the Dark Crypt)
- studying the "druidic frescos" at the Druid Grove
- inspecting the face-door at Ethel house
- studying the ruins for the Duergars (in the underdark)
In short :
1) It doesn't depart from what could happen during a Dnd session (with the proper limitations given above of course). "I want to have a look a it". I'm trying to read this as well". You've heard it before.
2) It can be done in a fairly simple manner. Like what's been done for DOS2.
This would be the virtual equivalent of solving things as a team. It's even worse doing this in multiplayer.
Yes. Dnd is a coop game (mostly 😅). So this would make sense to add this. Even when playing "solo" with non-player companions since they are still companions.
I could simply just use my MC to talk to everyone and accept that I'm going to fail most rolls that way, but with a party based game where you round out the party ro compliment each other, it feels wrong to play that way.
+1
It could also pressure players to spend abilities points in INT or WIS even when it doesn't fit the class or character. But mostly, the issue is the immersion break when companions just stand there when they could provide assistance with certain skill checks (again, not all). Especially with know-it-all characters like Gale (and Shadowheart even).
