So if you decided to play as an Origin character which would you chose?

...and who would you choose to fill out the party?

My first playthrough will be a custom character but I would eventually do a second playthrough as Karlach if she is available as an OC. I would take SH, Astarion, and Gale as companions. If Karlach is not available I probably wouldn't play any of the other Origin characters.

Thing is, usually, when I have a canon in my head, I don't deviate from it on replay 😅
Probably for the same reason I don't watch behind-the-scenes, it spoils the experience in a way.

However, during the EA of this game, I had fun switching character and playing classes I didn't think I would like. I always pick elves though, usually using the same face model...so that might be why it doesn't bother me as much 😅

So, that being said :

First playthrough : Custom - SH - Astarion - Gale (so same as you, Ranxerox)

Following playthroughs :
Main character :
  • Gale or Shadowheart : Most likely. They are on the same level since both are somewhat relatable to me. I think I would be able to play them and stay fairly true to their characters (the approval system somewhat confirms this).
  • A similar custom character : Pretty likely. I can't help myself 🤪
  • Wyll : The biggest maybe. I really don't like him 😅 So only if I find the will to pick Wyll (😛) to challenge myself. I would mostly play a more chill version of him though.
  • Astarion : No. I like the character. So, I will definitely keep him as a companion. However, I wouldn't be able to play him without deviating too extremely from who is supposed to be.
  • Lae'zel : No. I like the character, but it wouldn't make sense to play as her or even keep her as a character (given how I like to play).
  • Karlach and Helia : No. I'm not to interested. I would most likely pick one of them as a companion if I pick an Origin character.

Companions (in order of preference) :
Astarion/Gale/Shadowheart > Karlach/Helia (based on the little we know) > Laez'el > Wyll.

So, no locked party yet. Just, some linups are more likely than others.

No current plans to play an origin character, although that could change after they reveal the remaining companions.

Recently for companions I have been taking Gale, Wyll, and SH.

If I was going for an Origin character, I'd go Lae'zel accompanied by Shadowheart, Karlach and Wyll.

Shadowheart to me screams like she's the main character of the story and Lae'zel right behind. So I'd go with her for more story insight, but I love her as a companion so I'd go as Lae'zel.

However I will 90% chance go my own character accompanied by Shadowheart, Lae'zel and Karlach.

hmm, that is a tough question, I'm not really attached to any of the current origin characters. I guess I'll say whoever isn't released yet?

At this point, at release, I'll playthrough the EA section with an origin character and see what playing as one actually entails, before deciding who I'll be during the first playthrough.
Having Gale's commentary is always nice, and there's so much Shar material to be found in the EA alone, that Shadowheart is already a semi-permanent member. The free spot can go to anyone, maybe Wyll just to see the Mizora angle at the Towers.

I would say there are some origin characters who have a very present personality and there are ones who seem more open to different, let's say, alignments. If I'm playing as Lae'zel, it'd be very strange to act like some magnanimous do-gooder, and I'm interested how the game will reflect her non-PC personality as you're playing her. How will the game react to a Lae'zel who prioritizes helping the Tieflings before finding the creche?

The party compositions presented here all assume that playing an origin character entails no custom PCs are allowed. If that’s the case, then no Ori for me, thank you.

Edit: let’s assume I can mix and match. I’m most curious about Lae’zel’s deal, in which case I’d bring along a druid, a sorcerer and a rogue, maybe Astarion.

Depends on what option we will have ... meaning what can we change.
But presuming this game will have replayability on simmilar level as VtM:Bloodlines (wich i mention just bcs its the only game i played through more than 30 times and still love it) ... i dare to presume that sooner or later i will try every single one of Origin characters. laugh

Right now im most curious about Karlach ... or Shadowheart ...
Since their starts seems to be a little different from our custom characters and i really wonder how far will Larian push it.

Anyway what im mostly interested about playing as Origin characters is what will be locked on them ...
I mean, is there any reason why Gale wouldnt be a Gnome? laugh
Is there any reason why Shadowheart wouldnt simply be a Shar worshiping Rogue? laugh
And how about conversations ... can i force Shadowheart to love Githyanki when i will play this game as her? laugh
And will we be able to play as Origin character while creating our own custom party?

Answers for those questions define my decision in this matter ...

Im certainly sure that i want to try at least one "pure" party ... 3 Custom Githyanki + Lae'zel ... but if i would be able to play as Lae'zel while having my own squad of Githyanki at comand ... that sounds even more interesting. laugh

I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings. frown
Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are! frown

I sense the possibility for a lot of fireworks. Your character must either be a peacemaker or a shit disturber.

I probably won't play an Origin unless I am extremely bored, but if I do, it will probably end up being Astarion. I don't find him super interesting, he just comes with less negatives than the others.

I dislike melee combat and find it unnecessary in this game, so playing the two I find most interesting (Lae'zel and Karlach) won't happen because I don't feel ranged combat suits their personalities.

Gale seems too obsessive and I cannot put myself in the mindset of anyone like that, especially over something like "love."

Wyll is too full of himself for me to like him, if it is possible to play him with a bit different personality and keep in character then I might try him.

Shadowheart seems like she would have an interesting story, but she also seems to be Larian's pet and I feel like this would create some unwanted railroading with her story.

As for filling out the party, it will depend on my mood at the time and how the others interact with me.
