My bard successfully convinced Rugan that she was sent to retrieve the shipment, but the lock symbol on the chest remained red, and Rugan would turn hostile if I tried to open the chest.
I reloaded my previous save and took a long rest before trying to open it again, hoping that Rugan and Olly would have left, leaving the chest behind. They were indeed gone - but so was the chest.

(Or maybe it's not a bug, and Rugan and Olly just realised that it's not a good idea to entrust their shipment to a random stranger )

i don't see what this has to do with being a Bard?

From my experience you get nothing additional with this quest as a bard. Being a Rogue on the other hand and convincing Rugan to keep the chest to sell to a buyer in BG gives you a chance to

I think the issue is you’re not supposed to open the chest, just deliver it. If you want its contents pick it up, leave and open it when you’re alone.

I didn’t know Rugan and Olly left with the chest if you take a long rest without grabbing it, but it’s consistent with other sequences. It’s how the game represents time passing.

The dialogue option was marked as [Bard] [Deception] "...", so I thought that maybe it was different from other deception options.


Thank you for the advice! Now I am feeling really stupid, I completely forgot that you can also pick up a chest, and not just open it...

Actually I have opened the chest before and unless it’s changed you may find an issue that has you under its watchful eye/s. It has been awhile so maybe some changes.

The bard/deception option appears to just be a flavor roll without anything special.

[Bard] [Deception] should result in the same outcome as any of the other [Deception] rolls... its possible they missed placing a 1 in the script, i mean its not like Larian actually tells us what should happen when they make these random changes so for all we know they want you to get in a fight over that chest
